review of Epiphone Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: very playable
Disadvantages: short sustain

...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

...If you have read some of my other guitar reviews, you will know im a bit of a collector of guitars. In fact, you could almost say its an obsession. Therfore no collection would be complete without an axe from one of the world's finest and best known acoustic producers. Ovation. I own the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which i believe is the finest looking in the Ovation range. However, you will also know that from my other reviews, Im left handed with the guitar which narrows your choice in colour. For a Right hander, the choices include, Black, Natural, Wine, Green and a sunburst effect top and also available in vasious mapel finishes. Im afraid to say my only choice was Black. Still it does look rather fetching and contrasts well with the Marquetry effect leaves around the multiple sound holes. Being an Ovation, it does come...

Applause Guitars are the younger brother of guitar manufacturers Ovation, who have been making trustworthy guitars for over 30 years now, and here have used this experience to make a guitar that doesn't sound like a guitar that is as cheap as this, but is a high-quality product. My model number is actually the AE 28, rather than the 64, but trust me, from what I know about Ovations and what else I can work out, there are no differences here except the numbers! I brought it in November last year from a local music retailers, who I purchased my two other guitars (both electric), so trusted them fully when they recommended me this offering, and they've not let me down...

Review of Applause AE64 Acoustic Electric Guitar

1 of the elite trio of acoustic brands!!!

Advantages: will last a life time, sounds great, plays great, will not depreciate
Disadvantages: costly to begin with

...After playing for 12 years I had finally found an acoustic that was worthy of being purchased by myself. The acoustic market has an elite trio which consists in my opinion of: Taylor, Gibson and Martin. All offer fantastic tones, comfortable playability, exceptional intonation and superb craftsmanship. They are the bench mark of acoustics that offer outstanding quality which other brands cannot match. To put it quite simply, If you purchase a Martin you will never have to buy another acoustic again, they are the perfect tool for all professional players. In my experience I have never seen one loose any value or sound bad. My advice would be to certainly shop around to find the best deals and Do not just settle on the first that you pick up unless you are instantly happy with its feel and sound. No two acoustics are identical in sound...

SG Special - a Gibson thoroughbred

Advantages: Real Gibson Quality
Disadvantages: Heart Stopping price tag

.... Mine is lighter than my Strat. The SG is lighter still, so much so that it is neck heavy, which is why you will sometimes see players attach their straps to the head, in the style of an acoustic guitar so that the neck does not sag. The SG is comfortable to play both sitting and standing and has a tone that compares very favourably with the LP. If there is any criticism I can offer it would be that it does not pack as rich a blast as the Les Paul, probably because there is somewhat less of the body to provide resonance. When I bought my guitar it was a toss up between the SG and the LP but the deal I got on the LP swung the balance. Since then, I have been proved right, the list price of my guitar has gone up over £200 and now matches the SG Special. Given that my colleague also had to lay out over £75 for the hard case I think...

Taylor 810 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Advantages: Superior tone, easy to play

...I wish I was the proud possessor of a Taylor 810 guitar! The one I'm writing about belongs to a friend of mine, and he's very protective of it, will let very few people touch it (I appear to be one of the favoured few!) The guitar itself is made of Indian rosewood back and sides, with a Sitka spruce top, with distinctive Taylor ebony bridge and scratchplate. The neck is tropical American mahogany, the fingerboard is also ebony. The soundhole is decorated with Abalone,however this is not excessive. Machine heads are gold plated for a touch of luxury. As much care has been taken on the inside of this guitar as on the outside, and the finish is smooth, even on those hard-to-reach corners inside the guitar. Gibson SG - The Greatest Guitar in The World

Advantages: Fantastic Appearence, Sound, just an amazing guitar

...When i saw Kelly Jones ( Stereophonics ) on stage strumming a cherry red , Gibson SG Classic, the sound so crisp and fine. Talor Big Baby Acoustic Guitar

...Having just puchased one of these guitars on the wonderful ebay, I thought that i may as well review it for my friends on ciao. When the guitar arrives it comes in a very sturdy, expensive looking padded gig bag. As soon as you unpack it from the box it reeks of quality, the gig bag itself has a carrying handle on the top and a strap on the rear, so you can sling it over you back in a rock ' roll style. It has a large front pocket for carrying various bits and bobs (large enough to carry a tab book), and features an embroided Taylor logo, essential for letting others know whats inside. Once you open the gig bag and lift out the guitar it becomes apparent how lightweight the instrument is. The back and sides are made from Sapele veneerand the top is Sitka spruce. While these are not the most expensive and best sounding woods used...

...Yes, yes I know, yet another geetar review. But a man has to have a hobby and sheep farmers keep a watchful eye on their livestock these days. Anyone want to buy a pair of second hand wellies? Seriously, I've been after a USA built Gibson for some time now and decided to go for the SG Special in faded worn brown. This is the entry level for the legendary model (£645 in this case, though still expensive). Buying guitars online can save a LOT of money but it something of a lottery as you can get a real lemon sometimes. But as we'll see, I hit lucky this time.
