SG Special - a Gibson thoroughbred
Advantages: Real Gibson Quality
Disadvantages: Heart Stopping price tag
...I got the better deal, although I will say that the SG is a real treat to play. Anyone wanting a Gibson who doesn't like the Les Paul style would do very well with one of these.
The main difference between the SG and the Les Paul is that the SG has a full double cutaway, meaning that it is easier to reach the highest frets on the fingerboard, that and the lighter body makes the SG ideal for the player who is of slighter build and doesn't want a heavy guitar. Many top players have used the SG to great effect, including Rory Gallagher, the bloke from AC/DC who still, after all these years, dresses like a schoolboy and many others.
I like the SG, nearly as much as I like my Les PAul and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is reasonably serious about playing....

My Gibson SG
Advantages: Great look, great sound and playability. Light
Disadvantages: Quite expensive therefore not for beginners
...- 10 for ease of use.
Quality of Sound
The quality of sound of an electric guitar often largely depends on the type of amplifier used, however I have played this guitar through a range of amplifiers from stage quality to one the size of a cigarette box and it has always had a clean, concise sound. It sounds great played clean, and also sounds great when using distortion for a heavier rock sound.
Playability
As the body of the guitar is cutaway at the top and the bottom, it is easier to reach the highest notes on the fingerboard. The neck is shaped like a C so it is comfortable for your thumb and fingers whilst playing. A slight downside for really high speed metal style guitarists would be that the varnish on the neck could be a bit sticky when trying to play 1000 notes a second! However for the majority of guitarists...

SG - Special Guitar, Stunningly Good!
Advantages: Plays well, feels great, sounds fantastic!
Disadvantages: Not cheap, could do with hard case supplying with it.
...Yes, yes I know, yet another geetar review. But a man has to have a hobby and sheep farmers keep a watchful eye on their livestock these days. Anyone want to buy a pair of second hand wellies?
Seriously, I've been after a USA built Gibson for some time now and decided to go for the SG Special in faded worn brown. This is the entry level for the legendary model (£645 in this case, though still expensive). Buying guitars online can save a LOT of money but it something of a lottery as you can get a real lemon sometimes. But as we'll see, I hit lucky this time.
This parcel arrived at my door and I eagerly opened it to reveal..... well, a real beauty! The faded worn brown of the body and neck wasn't so much worn or faded but rather minimal, unlike some of the over laquered models on offer., to the point where you can still slightly feel...

Gibson SG - The Greatest Guitar in The World
Advantages: Fantastic Appearence, Sound, just an amazing guitar
Disadvantages: a bit advanced for secondary guitarists ?
...the guitar for me. At £700 it was a dear price. But there are no bad points to the guitar ? and i honestly mean that. Advertised to have " The fastest neckboard in the world " the two cutaway horns on either side make the higher frets more accesible. The body is made of solid mahogony aswell as the neck joint. the fret board is madeof solid , varnished rosewood and looks ever bit as good as it plays. Personally i think a Red Cherry Gibson with a Black scratch plate looks best but they are also available in black, white, blue, normal red and sunburst. I really cant give enough credit to this guitar. I recently played on stage with it and my god what a show. Playing maybe tomorrow - Stereophonics , it uses deep dark chords and a high pitched solo in the middle. The SG handled both with melodic ease and didnt half look good when the real rock came...

Gibson Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar
Advantages: That sound, image, hold their price
Disadvantages: Price, build quality
...I ve had mine for 10 months now and I love it to death. The 60's style fit my hand beautifully and the weight is well balanced and not too heavy.
Sounds. I gigg mine weekly and it produces a deep rich clean sound for thoes mellow tunes, a Peter Green type overdrive for blues right through to hi gain distortion and all done with a superior quality of tone.
Build Quality..... C'mon Gibson sort it out!!!!. Mine has steps in the binding and the odd laquer blemish, and the bridge post are very spindley.
So Why did I buy It?... I tryed many in shops before i chose this one and i found them all to be different in feel and tone. As a giging guitarist I chose this one because of its feel and tone.
A sturdy guitar that will last many years and give you much pleasure.
Shop around for one, play many, they are all different, and if you want...

Gibson SG
Advantages: good looks, two humbuckers, made of mahogony and rosewood, not to heavy, easy to play, comfortable
Disadvantages: A bit expensice
...I bought this product in a music shop near my house for £1399.99 about 4 months ago(Jan/Feb) and have been playing it everyday for about 1-4hours. I'm using a Marshall MG15CD with it and it just sounds .... fabulous.
The body of the guitar is made of mahogony wood and comes in either cherry red or ebony- I have the cherry red one.
The neck is also made of mahogony wood and of rosewood.
I already own a Fender Stratocaster and am happy to say that the Gibson SG is much lighter and has a much nicer sound.
The neck has 22frets and the guitar has two humbuckers, a three way switch and two tone and two volume controls.
The sound quality of most electric guitars depends on the amplifier you use-but not with this guitar. This guitar sounds great with any type of amplifier -be it a 500w or 5w ,small or big, expensive or cheap etc...

Gibson Byrdland (2007)
Advantages: Versatile sound, easy to play.
Disadvantages: Shorter neck a little cramped for some "fat" chords.
...From the time I was given my first "real" guitar, a 1963 Olive Green Sunburst Epiphone Sorrento (E452T), I remember hearing that it should be my goal to someday acquire the "epitome", the Gibson Byrdland. I finally managed to acquire a new Natural finish Florentine Cutaway model (Ted Nugent's favorite) in the past few years. Although much like the Epiphone Sorrento, the body is slightly thicker and larger. The shorter neck scale (23.5 inch) was immediately notably different from the Sorrento's (24.75 inch) scale and took some getting used to. The fit and finish were first rate and aside from the shorter neck, it's a fairly easy and comfortable guitar to play. The unplugged and amplified tonal quality is "very good to excellent " Although slightly heavier than the Sorrento, it is not a burden after several hours of play like some...

Gibson Les Paul Special P100 pickups
Advantages: Excellent tone, playability and value - for a Gibson
Disadvantages: Does not have the punch of humbuckers
...There are several versions of the LP Special. The older models have P90 pickups, some have single cutaway, some have double cutaways. The reissue models have P100 pickups, or humbuckers, like the guitar pictured. Since the one I own has P100 pickups, I do not know about the guitar in the picture!
The P90 and P100 pickups look the same, but the P100 is a humbucking design, while the P90 is single coil. Sometimes these are called "soapbar" pickups, especially if they have cream covers - they have cream or black covers, depending on the guitar they are fitted on - usually black on a LP Special.
I learned to play electric guitar on a 56 LP with P90s, so I am in a position to compare my modern guitar with the old ones.
My LP Special is a cherry red 1996 model. The finish is good, it is a versatile guitar, and it plays easily. The P100...

My first guitar
Advantages: balanced structure, quality sound for the price paid
Disadvantages: heavier than other guitars aimed at beginners
...this guitar is that it has a whammy bar/tremelo bar, when I see advanced guitar players I notice that many of their guitars do not have a tremelo, the Gibson Les Paul for example.
This guitar will ultimately give you an original sound at bargain price. My parents bought mine for me for £120 including an amp. Had it been more expensive, i probably would not have been able to get such a versatile guitar.
Al though the Yamaha may be seen as a standard guitar by many, it is a perfect starting point for any new guitarist...

Gibson Les Paul Studio
Advantages: A good buy if you are thinking of buying a Les Paul guitar
Disadvantages: Other guitars offer better value for money
...I recently bought a '93 Les Paul Studio to avoid taking my older guitars out to gigs - too many Daylight Robbers in this world nowadays!
Overall, the build quality is acceptable. I have bought this guitar because I want something that sounds like a LP Custom, and the range of Gibson tones available is wider than that. It can be made to sound like an SG by using the tone controls, and it is possible to approach the "woman" tone of the ES335 with this guitar!
It plays acceptably, although the bridge has to be on its lowest setting, and I have other guitars with a better action. I like the short scale on Gibson guitars - it suits my small hands, and gives a little more tension with light strings than a Fender does.
I have no issues with the hardware and the overall appearance is good, although there are a couple of cracks in...
