...a joy to read from start to finish, and really had me sitting and thinking as I turned the final few pages. It is really a moral story, with a bit of magic thrown in to cheer it up, but come the ending everything comes together in a quite shocking ending which really made me sit up and reread what I had just read! Ahern seems to have the ability to create a magical world on paper which you can visualise yourself so deeply that you are thrown so deeply into the story, you want to keep reading right until the end all in one go! The shiny snowflake cover allows this book to be a great Christmas gift as well as a book that is going to be great to bring out for Christmas again and again. I borrowed by copy from the library but will getting myself a copy as soon as its out in paperback. Highly recommended, I absolutely loved it - this is one book...

The fourth republic

Advantages: Nice thought, and a good place in which to think it
Disadvantages: Not much to see, except perhaps on April 1st

...People in Britain tend to think of the three ex-Soviet Baltic republics, if they think of them at all, as a uniform group and to assume they're much of a muchness. I have to admit that before I went to the region I rather shared that assumption. Once there, one learns a bit about their individual histories and ethnicities, and observes their differing national characters. The Estonians are polite and efficient, but perhaps somewhat stolid. The Latvians are brisker, sharper and less forthcoming; compared to Tallinn, Riga has an edgy feel. And the Lithuanians? They are sometimes described as the Italians of the region, though I'm not sure that quite does them - or the Italians - justice. Looking a Gift Horse...

Advantages: Good acting by Mr Reeves and Cate Blanchet

...I often wondered if I was missing something after seeing this film and having read all the reviews and heard all the exclamations of wonder that seemed to be directed at this 2002 film. Republic of quality clothing.

Advantages: nice variety of quality clothes and mega fast delivery.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are too expensive

...with paypal. I don't mind using a credit card, but it is so much quicker than entering all your details and numbers. You can also pay with a card if you prefer or if you don't have paypal, but I do recommend that you get it. The dress came just two days after she bought it which I thought was nice and fast. The packaging had republic on it so I knew what it was and the dress was lovely. I am very pleased with the quality of their clothing and their speedy delivery. I also recieved an email-reciept and they told me when the order had been dispatched so they really do have great communication skills so you always know what is happening. The dress wasn't creased and she put it on straight away because they had folded it nicely with her reciept in the bag. ...If you have seen Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series of movies then you might be expecting something a little different than what The Gift has to offer you. This shows a more mature Raimi, showing that he can indeed cut it in the world of 'serious' film-making, as opposed to hilarious schlock horror. The Gift however benefits from his directorial talents but unfortunately even he can not pull it up from being a simple painting by numbers thriller. not the perfect gift

Advantages: good acting by well-known stars
Disadvantages: poor plot line that drags on a little too long

.... Although she does not have a huge part, she does bare more of her flesh than usual. There are no real twists in the film, and the ending is pretty predictable. Overall, my opinon of the film is that it is not right cracking. With all the acting ability available, it does not make the most of it. The film is boring in more parts than one and drags on alot, with little excitment. If you like exciting and tense thrillers - you should give 'The Gift' a miss. Some could call it a psychological thriller, not sure if I would agree or notIt is neither tense or exciting. The film overall is a real miss and I believe it does not live up to my expectations.
