GA-7VTX Socket A Gigabyte dual bios motherboard.
Advantages: Dual bios and great stability
Disadvantages: Unnanounced conflicts and required settings
...GA-7VTX Socket A Gigabyte dual bios motherboard.
Introduction;
This Dual Bios motherboard designed to accept AMD/Duron/Athlon/XP processors, incorperates onboard sound,+4 USB,with DDR memorey and in innovative dual bios system.
Having myself tried and tested this motherboard for 6 months in two machines,I am totally convinced of is usefulness and it's place in the market.Providing a very stable board and up to date technology,it has the added benefit of a system that protects your bios against viruses, power fluctuations, incorrect bios upgrades and bios chip failure.
Its incorperated resources and features are good, and ample for a very respectable system. However there are a few factors to be considered when choosing a motherboard, and most of the conflicts and incompatibilty problems I have encountered are not documented...

one of the best boards for socket 478
Advantages: features SATA, dual channel memory
Disadvantages: lacks modern features such as ddr2 and pci express
...If your like i was before stuck with a pretty decent socket 478 CPU such as a Pentium 4 2.8 , then this is one of the best motherboards i would recommend to get.
There are lots of great advantages with this motherboard such as the size, its a Micro ATX motherboard meaning that you can have a smaller case such as a media centre case.
It has 2 DDR 400 (backwards compatible with DDR 333,266 and 200) slots which can be used in Dual channel Mode if both Ram modules are the same.
The northbridge chipset on this board is an Intel 865g which supports a front side bus up to 800 mhz , but you can also use 400 and 533 mhz bus CPU's with this board.
It has two SATA slots which i would say is the most future friendly part on the motherboard meaning it wont be a problem when upgrading your hard drive or some optical drives which are now...

Disadvantages: graphics card obscures one of the pci express slots
...Having no idea which Motherboard we needed to buy, we looked on the internet to see what was going for what price.

TH7-II Raid - a classic & still up with the best
Advantages: reliable, very upgradable, fast and very over-clockable.
Disadvantages: no HT support, only USB 1.1, did anybody get built in LAN?
....1 Platinum. Since I've never used the built in one, I can't comment on it. Generally though they are not up to the standard of the high end Creative cards.
I installed 2x 200gig IBM 7200rpm deskstars on the primary standard ide, and a dvd writer and cd writer on the secondary standard ide. On the Highpoint I installed 4x 200gig IBM 7200rpm desktars (primary ide master+slave and secondary ide master+slave). I use them as extra drives only, not as RAID. This is because if you upgrade the highpoint BIOS it can sometimes break the RAID stripe. I didn't want to risk that. This board supports ATA100 max. ATA133 drives work fine, but you will only get ATA100 transfer speeds through the bus.
This board started life with a socket 478 Pentium4 Williamette processor at 1.5GHz. This lasted me for a while, and ran happily when clocked with a 110fsb x4...

Asrock P4V88 Skt478 Motherboard
Advantages: Easy Setup, Great Performance, Cheap but Reliable
Disadvantages: Some components hard to reach
...I bought this motherboard when I was building my first ever system, mainly due to the cost but also due to it's wide range of features. On the face of it, it's nothing to shout home about, but it's reliable and should something go wrong, during installation or testing, it won't break the bank if you need to purchase another.
It comes well packaged, with a fairly well laid out multilingual manual, all the cables you'll need (Floppy, SATA, IDE), the Install CD (although in my opinion it's not really needed) and even an anti-static foam mat for preparation of the board.
On the whole, the board is well laid out, with the connectors for the drives grouped together and a good distance from the pci/agp slots. There are 6 USB 2.0 ports on this board, and they are connected by means of pins. There are also pins for firewire, audio...

mATX - Small, Sound, Old
Advantages: ATX-compatible, Power-efficient, Inexpensive, Supports ATA and SATA
Disadvantages: Obsolete DDR Technology, Unsuitable for Gamers
...ASRock P4i65G is a compact motherboard for that tiny PC case.
Because it was manufactured for microtower standard computer boxes, it lacks the strengths that the following customers would desire: workstation administrators, hardcore gamers, media professionals. In other words, this motherboard is currently suitable only for those with medium requirements (if you wish to buy it for a new computer) and highly recommended for Socket 478 processor owners.
Introducing mATX
Power Capacity
Most mATX computers support power supplies of no more than 350W, and the case is sometimes too small for you to stuff two hard disks. This motherboard can easily house a P4 3.4 GHz HT (one of the most powerful and watt-guzzling monocore CPUs) that can compete with modern dual core processors, multiple DVD-ROMs and hard disk...

Gigabyte this
Advantages: Supports fast CPU's (upto Athlon 3200+), Crammed with features
Disadvantages: None really
...the instructions in the manual, and you can then move onto the heatsink and fan. You will need to attach the fan to the heatsink, and then attach this onto the CPU socket according to the heatsink and motherboard manual. A nice feature of this motherboard is that there is plastic protecting the edges around the CPU socket, so if you slip with the screwdriver when trying to attach the heatsink, you don't actually damage the motherboard. The plastic protects you, preventing you from causing scratches or damaging any of the copper tracks, thus rendering the motherboard useless. This is really easily done, and have heard many times about how people have managed to do this, and I'm quite sure I would have too if it wasn't for the protection the motherboard offered.

Good all round socket 939 motherboard
Advantages: Excellent all rounder with too many features to list
Disadvantages: Not great for overclocking
...I have recently become a big fan of Asus products. The first contact i had with them was when i purchased an A8v deluxe motherboard for my pc. At the time, it was the best motherboard available on the market, but this was mainly due to the small number of manufacturers catering for this format.
Last month my younger brother pleaded with me to build him a computer which he can use for games, music, internet and all manner of things pc related. As Microsoft are slowly integrating 64 bit capability into almost all of their upcoming software, and 32 bit is being slowly phased out, I decided on starting with a 64 bit system. There are currently 3 formats of 64 bit system available, namely socket 754, socket 940 and socket 939. These 3 formats differ in their chip types and also in their compatability with other components used in the pc...

Dual Athlon MP motherboard from Gigabyte
Advantages: Supports all Athlon MP processors, CPU plug and play,
Disadvantages: Not many overclock options, tempremantal onboard raid, registered memory recommended
...purchase of new Power supply,
Might mean purchase of new registered memory/ram,
3/ Upgrade to Athlon MP
Pros:
My current video card will work fine (AGP)
My current memory might work,
Cost is less than Athlon 64 or Opteron
Cons:
Might mean purchase of new power supply,
Might mean purchase of registered memory/ram
After weighing up the pros and cons, i decided to go for an Athlon MP based computer.
Keeping my eye out on ebay, and looking up all the available motherboard options, i decided to see if i could get a Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW+.
The reason i chose this board above the others is:
Staggered 64bit PCI slots,
Onboard IDE RAID Controller,
Onboard Sound,
Onboard Network Card,
Standard ATX12v Power supply connection.
The board i purchased (from ebay) came with 1gigabyte of registered memory, and 2x Athlon MP 2600+ Barton...
