Gigabyte this
Advantages: Supports fast CPU's (upto Athlon 3200+), Crammed with features
Disadvantages: None really
...and allowing for high-speed computing thanks to the NVIDIA nForce?2 Ultra 400 platform, allowing for the Athlon XP Barton 3200+'s to be used to their full potential. Thanks to the dual channel DDR controller your computer has a lot more power (and if you wish to you can have 3GB of fast memory!!) the AGP8X graphics interface means you are able to use the best graphics cards on this, and will be able to enjoy thrilling games such as Doom3 in all their glory (or gory!). 5 PCI slots are included, which allows plenty of room for other cards to be inserted. This is quite a high number, especially as the motherboard is already crammed with so many other good features. Dual LAN is included, so is IEEE 1394 (Firewire), and the latest USB 2.0 allowing fast transfer of data and enables the use of the latest peripherals. Serial ATA and IDE RAID allow you to...

This Motherboards Abit Of Alright Actually
Advantages: Dual Channel Memory Controller, Sound-Storm with digital output, Serial ATA support, Great Overclocking
Disadvantages: South-bridge can sometimes get a little warm
...great feature is the fact that there is what is replacing the IDE connection for hard-drives and slowly optical drives inbuilt into this motherboard - SERIAL ATA.
Serial ATA is a new technology designed to give better performance and make drives even easier to install. Instead of having a "master" and "slave" scenario like the IDE channels, Serial has just the 1 Drive allocation, thus removing the need for jumpers and configuration. Serial ATA support is supplied via the Silcon Image SR3112 controller and supports single drives and 2 drives in Raid 0 and raid 1 configuration. Raid 0 is where 2 identical drives - in the case seagate 200 Gb drives "look" as if they are 1 huge 400 Gb drive with the read and write speed increased as the data is written to each drive alternatively - i.e odd blocks on drive A, even on Drive B. Windows does...

GA-7VTX Socket A Gigabyte dual bios motherboard.
Advantages: Dual bios and great stability
Disadvantages: Unnanounced conflicts and required settings
...GA-7VTX Socket A Gigabyte dual bios motherboard.
Introduction;
This Dual Bios motherboard designed to accept AMD/Duron/Athlon/XP processors,incorperates onboard sound,+4 USB,with DDR memorey and in innovative dual bios system.
Having myself tried and tested this motherboard for 6 months in two machines,I am totally convinced of is usefulness and it's place in the market.Providing a very stable board and up to date technology,it has the added benefit of a system that protects your bios against viruses,power fluctuations,incorrect bios upgrades and bios chip failure.
Its incorperated resources and features are good,and ample for a very respectable system.However there are a few factors to be considered when choosing a motherboard,and most of the conflicts and incompatibilty problems I have encountered are not documented...

Motherboard by Gigabyte
Advantages: cheap, does the job
Disadvantages: graphics card obscures one of the pci express slots
...Having no idea which Motherboard we needed to buy, we looked on the internet to see what was going for what price.
Having used Gigabye Motherboards in the past and never had any trouble with them the wisest thing to do was to keep to Gigabyte.
We decided on the Gigabyte GA-945P-DS3 purely on the features it offered.

Great ASUS motherboard with onboard graphics
Advantages: price, reliability, on board graphics
Disadvantages: none
...Great cheap nForce2 motherboard that comes complete with onboard LAN, onboard sound, and more importantly onboard Geforce 4 graphics. Also comes with TV Out.
You can if you like add your own graphics card via the AGP 8x slot.
Supports Athlon processors up to 3.0Mhz and can support DDR400 memory (but only if you add a separate graphics card into the AGP slot, otherwise you'll need to use DDR333).
The great thing about this card is that everything is onboard without the need to purchase extras. The onboard Geforce 4 graphics although not state of the art will be sufficient for most users unless you're a really avid 3D gamer. Although, of couse, you can always add a separate card at a later date.
Sound is produced onboard by a 6-channel processor which produces great 5.1 surround sound, so no real need to buy a separate sound...

Abit's AMD Overclocking Delight
Advantages: Speed, stability, Soundstorm audio
Disadvantages: Nothing serious...
...The AMD Athlon XP range of CPUs is fairly mature these days, as are associated chipsets and motherboards. With the advent of the 64 bit Athlon 64, one could be forgiven for thinking the XP is consigned to the history books. Well, that?s not so ? and not only because of the high entry price of 64 bit computing with its requirement for new motherboards, coolers and memory in addition to the CPU purchase. The excellent nForce2 chipset from Nvidia, better known for their graphics chipsets, has kept the Athlon XP bubbling along the performance curve very nicely, thank you. I?m going to take a look at the NF7-S (in v2.0 guise) ? which is one of Abit?s best received implementations of this chipset.
The NF7-S comes packed with a host of features: 2 IDE channels, SATA RAID support, Firewire, USB 2, the excellent Soundstorm audio, AGP 8x...

ABIT of NForce can go a long way
Advantages: Fast, Stable, Reliable, Low Cost
Disadvantages: Fan not so reliable, not cutting edge technology
...ABIT boards have always been the choice for the PC enthusiast, their mix of performance, stability and features; have always provided the most to those people who want to get as much out of their computer as humanly possible. Now that the AMD?s Socket A range of processors have finally come to an end the NF7-S is arguably the best Socket A motherboard in the market. Version 2 of the board fixed a lot of the problems with the original board resulting in a feature packed stable board affordable for even those on the tightest budget.
Board Features
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The board itself comes in a rather attractive red PCB; the connectors may not be a bright and exciting as the UV reactive connectors on the DFI LANParty. The positioning of the connectors however are pretty much spot on. There is plenty of clearance round the heatsink fan...
Cheap, Fast And Feature-packed
Advantages: Great value, All-in-one, A good base for a budget gaming system
Disadvantages: No built-in graphics, Limited sound ports, No EAX Advanced HD
...A year ago, the Asus A7N8X series consisted of some of the best selling motherboards on the market, and it's not hard to see why. At the time, the nVidia nForce 2 chipset was taking the PC market by storm and was making it easier than ever before to build your own computer. nForce 2 based motherboards included everything - well, almost everything. Sound, networking and even graphics could all be provided on one board without the need for extra PCI or AGP slot-in cards, thus saving slot space and (if you wanted to build your own computer) building time.
A year on and selling for under £50, this motherboard is now a brilliant value budget choice - you could make a very respectable gaming system based on this board. Sure, you won't be able to include a 64-bit processor or the very latest DDR2 RAM, but you'll still be able to create...
Old but Strong
Advantages: Durable
Disadvantages: Not found, yet
...Though I have just run a new PC-shop, I am still using my old Personal Computer to run my business which is built with an MSI K7N2 Delta2 motherboard. This socket-A (socket-462) motherboard is quite durable as I have been using it for about 2 years!
I am using an AMD Athlon XP Processor, an 80GB Seagate ATA Harddrive (it also supports SATA), a 256MB memory, and Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 as my display adapter to build my PC. Microsoft Windows XP (Professional Edition) is my operating system.
K7N2 Delta2 comes with an integrated audio chip (5.1 channel H/W audio) and an onboard 10/100 ethernet. Personally, these onboard features are good enough for me to hear music and to connect to my local area network.
The Package
This Nvidia nForce 2 Ultra 400 / IGP chipset based motherboard comes with a comprehensive user manual, an MSI...
mATX - Small, Sound, Old
Advantages: ATX-compatible, Power-efficient, Inexpensive, Supports ATA and SATA
Disadvantages: Obsolete DDR Technology, Unsuitable for Gamers
...slot for those ink printers that don't do well with USB. Other plugs are all basic and expected in every standard motherboard.
Memory
The motherboard can have up to 2 GB DDR RAM. It is more than enough for an average Windows Vista multi-tasker, but modern games might do substantially better with a 4GB-able DDRII. Let me remind you mATX computers were made to save space and energy, and you can't expect much more stuffed on a tiny mainboard.
Slots
The product has 3 PCI slots and one for an AGP graphics card. mATX users should find that they have 1 free PCI slot if they own an internal LAN card provided by their ISP and a more advanced sound card (the internal sound device does not support EAX). However, if you put it into an ATX computer for whatever reason, it just might not do, as ATX variants provide more...
