Gilera 50cc motor scooter

Advantages: Cheap running costs, fun to ride
Disadvantages: A bit cold in Winter

...I bought my Gilera Runner DD 50cc motor scooter just over a year now and have been pleasantly surprised with it. I bought it to mainly use when the car wasn't available but have found myself using it more and more recently. I know you see a lot of scooters on the roads these days - many of which seem to be holding the traffic up but not mine. It will go comfortably at 50mph and a bit faster if needed which is an ideal speed for travelling back and forth to work. The petrol costs are really good and insurance is ok. As long as you have a full motor vehicle licence you don't even need to do any bike training. An excellent alternative to the motor vehicle for short journeys to work....

gilera dna 50cc

Advantages: fast acceleration, great handling
Disadvantages: gussles oil a bit

...i've had this gilera dna for just over a year and its been the best of my life. i love this bike!!!!! i've just bought dunlop front and back tyres for this and jesus, it sticks to the road. i always manage to get my knee down at high speeds. the accelaration is superb, beating of most peds. beware though it slows down a bit when de-resticted. the top end speed is restricted to 25-30 mph which in my mind is dangerously slow. i de-restricted mine and it reach speeds of 45-50mph. i then decided to mod my bike. i got an after-market exhaust, gear up kit, variator kit, unrestricted my rpm clock and much more. it now reaches speed of 75mph + the bike looks fantasic. like a superbike but with no gears and a 50cc engine. recently i came of it sliping on some deisel or oil and the road. and at speeds of about 40mph there was no f@!k all...

I bourght a Gilera DNA 50 Brand new, from a local Motorcycle Shop for a Tidy £1700. My insurance was £120 Fully Comprehensive Along with my Tax at only £15. Total = £1835 Overall, This bike takes a Staggering 9/10 for Value Once On The Road..... The bike Struck up 1st time on both the electric start and the kick start. I decided to take the bike home through a few narrow windy roads and then onto a main road. The ride was perfect. Never have i felt such smooth performance even on Gravelly Surfaces. twist and go fun.

Advantages: low seat height, 4 stroke engine, looks like a motorbike not a scooter

Review of Aprilia Gilera DNA Motorbike

A great first bike!

Advantages: Great little bike, easy to ride, good value for money
Disadvantages: Heavy depreciation, but thats about it!

...I bought my Gilera DNA 50 at the end of August 2005, soon after my 16th birthday. The first day I saw it I fell in love - its looks amazing in Dragon Red with 2 white stripes going all the way across it! The purchase price was £2065, which broke down as £2000 purchase price, including registration fees and the £15 years road tax, and £65 for my CBT. The first day I saw it out of the showroom was the day I did my CBT. It rides extremely well, and even my examiner wanted to have a ride! Its is a very capable bike, and as it is a "twist and go" type bike you don't have to learn how to change gear etc. The only thing it can't do it a U turn in the space allowed on my CBT - after 3 failed attempts of my running wide, my examiner tried it on my bike and he couldn't do it either. Then again, when in real life do you need to do a U turn...

More of a Motorbike than a Scooter

Disadvantages: Perhaps lacking in a bit of street-cred

...My Gilera 180 Runner is now 18 months old - I'm impressed! Initially I had lots of starting problems which were badly dealt with by the dealer, but turned out to be a faulty battery. The machine is very fast (will cruise at 70, and will cope with average motorway speeds unless its windy!), and will beat anything away from the lights (if you're into that sort of thing) including most geared motorcycles. The weather protection is excellent, leaving you with wet shoulders - until you stop at the lights! Don't think that the heater vents will warm you - they don't! The seat is a little too low for me, but suits most riders. I've regularly used it two-up, with only a little loss of performance. I get in excess of 100mpg even riding it pretty hard. Apart from the initial problems I've never had any mechanical problems. The storage...

Cruising to work in comfort ...

Advantages: Stylish, Low seated (good for short leggies), Very stylish.
Disadvantages: Heavy (depending on your viewpoint)

Or perhaps it is because the Habana seat is lower than the Katana allowing me (with my short legs) to get my feet down on the ground fully when stationary .. instead of perching there on tiptoe. Whatever the reason, I feel safer on my Habana. SUITS MY PERSONALITY: Take a look at this scooter (try aprilia.com if there is no picture here). It is retro, but has a modern edge to it. It is sleek and sophisticated. All in all, it is a great looking scoot for someone who doesn't like the sporty style of, for example, the Peugeot Speedfight, Suzuki Katana, or Gilera Runner.
