Advantages: Gripping, Close adaptation to the book and Swedish film
Disadvantages: A little too similar to the Swedish version, Dips a bit in the middle
...This is a film review for the newest and English version of the film 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo'. Film only review.
Having first read the book followed by watching the Swedish film I feel that I have gotten to know this story quite well.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo originated as a book by Stieg Larsson published in 2005, Larsson died in 2004 before publishing the trilogy of books which then went on to become best sellers in several European countries and the United States. The books were inspired by Larsson witnessing the gang rape of a fifteen year old girl called Lisbeth who then became one of the two main characters in this book / film.
The film stars Daniel Craig playing the character of Mikael Blomkvist, Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander, Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vanger and a number of Swedish names.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Advantages: Capture the essence from the book
Disadvantages: Some violent scene
...'s overwhelming and feels very creepy. The director managed to capture the tone and the mood in the book.
Another major part of the book is on the crime against women. Well I think they included more than I would expect. For example , the scene where Lisbeth got raped by her guardian and the one with Mikael locked under the basement, these can be difficult to watch, And the scene where they open the cupboard with pictures of all of Martin's victim, it was just horrific.
Both Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace did a good job. The transformation of Noomi Rapace from a sweet faced girl into the punk Lisbeth is just amazing.
Overall, I enjoy it a lot and I can't way for the next two to come out....

More Than Just A Tattoo
Advantages: Original & complex plot, an intelligent & vivid read, some interesting characters
Disadvantages: Tad disappointed by the ending, quite convoluted in parts
...There was a lot of hype for this book, and for the film adaptation, that I wanted to check it out for myself. The foreign language and location put me off slightly, thinking that it could confuse my tiny brain, but it turned out to be an interesting and intelligent read. Overall, whilst this may not appeal to all, it appeased me to an extent as a crime thriller fan.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is actually the first novel within the 'Millennium' series. This introduces us to Mikael Blomvist, a disgraced publisher of the Millennium magazine in Sweden after losing a libel case following his accusations about a rich industrialist, Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. Forced to make some tough decisions, Blomvist knows Wennerstrom is going to do whatever he can to bring the paper down so he finds himself needing to get away for a while to wait...
