Gateway to Glasgow and Scotland
Advantages: Local, dont need to fly from English airports. Good road connections
Disadvantages: No direct rail link
...Glasgow International Airport ( or Abbotsinch for those of us with longer memories ) is visible from the M8 motorway about 8 miles out of Glasgow and a mile or so from Paisley. So is very accessible to reach by car. It is my local airport and I have flown from here many a time on both international and domestic flights.
One thing to confirm, if you are using a low cost airline, is which Glasgow Airport you are going to. There is another - Glasgow Prestwick ( airport code PIK ) which is about 25 miles south of Glasgow. Ryanair fly to Prestwick not Glasgow.
There are 5 different parking areas from immediately opposite the terminal to approximately ¾ of a mile away. The bumf says it is served by a shuttle bus but as we all know, the regularity and frequency quoted in official leaflets can leave a lot to be desired. I haven’...

Glasgow - Dear Green Place
Advantages: Cheap bus travel, free entry to many attractions, great restaurants, bars and concert venues
Disadvantages: The bars close at midnight, it's very cold in the winter
...the beautiful Glasgow Cathedral and directly across the road from there is the Provands Lordship which is reckoned to be one of the oldest houses in Glasgow.
Another favourite of mine is the People's Palace museum which is in the east end of the city beside the famous Glasgow Barras market. The People's Palace appeals to me so much because it is a museum that even people with no interest in art can enjoy because it concerns the way people lived in Glasgow from the medieval times through to modern day. The beautiful Botanic Gardens at the back of the museum are often used for weddings nowadays.
Although I'm not a big fan of Rennie Mackintosh he has designed many beautiful buildings in Glasgow. My favourite is the Scotland Street School, probably because every time I've been there hardly anybody else has been in the building. The classrooms...

Glasgow, a city near the Scottish countryside
Advantages: Lots to do, near magnificent countryside
Disadvantages: It rains sometimes
...too. I love the Buchannan Galleries because its new and shiny but Argyle, Buchannan and Sauchiehall Street have loads of interesting shops too. There are also usually a few buskers around, with bagpipes to entertain you and lighten the shopping load.
Glasgow has a number of universities but the oldest, Glasgow University is in the West End. The West End is well worth a visit or even a good place to stay. The university has a Visitors Centre with some helpful staff. The Byers Road is in the West End and a mecca for some interesting places to eat. If you are looking for something Italian try Leonardo's near the junction with Dumbarton Road.
If the weather turns really good, its easy to get out of Glasgow by car or public transport and explore the rest of SCotland. You don't have to go far to find peace and tranquility. Loch...

Glasgow Came Alive...
Advantages: In Op
Disadvantages: In Op
...This year saw, Glasgows Gig on the Green festival host it's second year. Last year's festival saw, Oasis and the Sterophonics headline though this year was promising to be a much bigger event.
August 25th and August 26th were the days for the City to become alive, with the up n comming bands like Alien Ant Farm, to people who are just past it, like Iggy Pop.
I had never been to a festival before and so naturally, I was really looking forward to standing for 12 hours solid, using portable toilets and paying £1.50 for a cup of Irn Bru. I know, stop being so god damn pessimistic...though that’s the only bad I will mention!
25th August - I arrived to the prime venue, right in the heart of Glasgow. I waited for just under 2 hours, before being allowed to enter inside, after entrance I got to about 3 rows from the barrier...

I belong to Glasgow
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Although Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, Glasgow is without doubt the largest city. Up until fairly recently Glasgow had a bit of a reputation for being a 'hard' city, but that is no longer the case. Sure, compared to Scottish towns the crime rate in Glasgow is quite high, but compared to other European cities it is actually now quite low. Regeneration schemes in the large housing estates such as Easterhouse and Castlemilk have installed a newly found sense of community spirit and local pride which is hard to match. The friendliness of the Glaswegians is legendary and there are many great attractions for the visitor. In particular make sure not to miss the Burrell Collection which can be found in Bellahouston park. There are also many galleries and museums, and the architecture which can be seen around the city is awe...

Scottish food in Scotland
Advantages: Fabulous Cullen Skink
Disadvantages: Could be cheaper
...A recent trip to Glasgow to stay with friends resulted in a visit to this restaurant, which is in the Hyndland district of Glasgow. For once, the weather was fabulous, so we made the most of it in a nearby bar garden and ended up eating about 8.30 - there were a few tables outside, but by that point, it was getting chilly, so we picked a table inside. And, despite a picky eater amongst the group, we had a fabulous meal.
Location:
11 Ruthven Lane
Byres Road
Glasgow G12 9BG
+44 (0) 141 334 4040
I'm not all that familiar with Glasgow, but Byrnes Road in the West End is very close to Glasgow University and it is walking distance (about 20 minutes) from Hyndland overland train station, as well as being just across the road from Hillhead underground station. Taxis are easy to flag down in the area and there are plenty...

The Last King of Scotland
Advantages: Great acting, story to be told
Disadvantages: Gruesome
...The Last King of Scotland is a story, inspired by real people and events about the life of the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The film came out in 2006 and was one that I really enjoyed. In my opinion it's well portrayed, beautifully acted, tense and gripping and one you really have to watch.
Idi Amin is played by Forest Whitaker and he gives a truly haunting portrail. He's really quite scary in this film at the same time as being really captivating and interesting and it's no coincidence that people fall for his charms. I think he actually bears a little resembalance to the dictator himself and so this definitely made the look and character more believeable. In fact, it's not jsut me who thinks Forest did a great job. He won the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild and the BAFTAs for his role...

The Ultimate Guide to Glasgow by Deiz
Advantages: Stuff to do
Disadvantages: Dirty and not as good as Edinburgh
...OK, so many people might say that any opinion on Glasgow written by an Edinburgher will be hellishly biased. Yes, is my counter to such criticisms, but only as much as any view on the city written by a Glaswegian will be unfairly rose-tinted.
As cities go, Glasgow is up there. It has everything a modern metropolis needs, from skyscrapers (well, Scottish style) to the recently refurbished Glasgow Concert Hall. But what does it have for visitors?
In terms of sights and landmarks, Glasgow does not stand out. It is still clinging on to the industrial revolution which transformed it into the sprawling urban mass which exists today and, as a result, it boasts the old gas works and Clyde shipyards among its most vaunted reference points. Full of character but hardly breathtaking. Many travellers I talk to either avoid Glasgow altogether...

My time in Scotland
Advantages: too many too list
Disadvantages: hmm, hardly any, it's just different and that's why I went there!
...the long and opened "a" in words like cab, rag, bag, Jack and wide somewhat muted "i" in short words sounding rather as "ae". And be sure the Scottish had fun with my English, too :p
Ayrshire
Ayrshire is located on the west coast of Scotland, Ayr its centre. I've spent most of my time (due to job) in two small towns named Auchinleck and Cumnock. Sadly there wasn't much to do in the area of my residence, nor nature to admire as those towns are basically connected by a busy road surrounded by not much more than impassable fields, so I've made a couple of trips around Ayrshire, the furthest I've gone was Glasgow and Stirling.
Ayr is a beautiful small town with an atmosphere I've never experienced elsewhere before! My most favourite sight of the place was the riverside and Wellington square which offers a lovely view over...

So much to see.
Advantages: Lots to see.
Disadvantages: None.
...Before our latest visit the only other time I had been to Glasgow was when we drove through it on the way to a wedding at Loch Lomond. I must say that on that drive we were not very impressed with Glasgow.
But, on our recent mid-week break we found Glasgow to be a very interesting city with plenty to see and do. One of the things that sticks in our minds was just how many places there are to have a meal out in Glasgow city centre. It seems that you could not walk more than a few yards without coming across another restaurant or cafe and the variety was outstanding with cuisine from all around the world. The prices were also all very reasonable.
The River Clyde obviously is a major feature of the city although now it is more of a tourist attraction and not the centre of a great ship building industry and cargo handling port that...
