Inverness as a place to visit

Advantages: Plenty activities, good nightlife at weekends, safe, scenic,
Disadvantages: weekday evening entertainment can be a bit poor,

...well you may think i will be biased about inverness due to my living here for my (i would say entire life but take a couple of years out where i lived in other places like aberdeen, tain and the like) life. however i have been to most major cities in the uk along with plenty of small villages and towns too. i will give you as accurate a description and opinion as i possibly can on the town/city (as it is now). Inverness is currently undergoing a major re-development to its city centre with new wider paths being laid and road system being turned upside down, shaken around a bit and re structured aparently in an effort to reduce traffic and congestion. To be honest the mess is kept to a minimum and the noise level seems reasonably low throughout this work and the finished product does actually look very pleasing to the eye...

Review of Inverness (Scotland)

The place to stay when visiting Inverness.

Advantages: Fantastic standard in both the rooms and the restaurant.
Disadvantages: Lack of leisure facilities.

...When my wife was offered a job in Inverness the company offered the whole family a weekend trip for the second interview. So my wife, 8 month daughter and I drove from just outside Edinburgh up to Inverness. When approaching Inverness from the South, on the A9 the hotel is perfectly signposted and cannot be missed. As you drive into the car park you would be forgiven for thinking that the hotel itself does not look anything special. Trust me when I say that it is the outside, and outside of the building only, that will make you think this. We had booked over the phone and when we went to check in something had gone wrong and there was no record of our booking, the start of a bad experience you might think. No, the staff dealt with it, without any fuss or hassle. Another room was booked, we sat and waited in the beautiful...

Review of Drumossie Hotel, Inverness

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

Advantages: Close to town and all amenities
Disadvantages: none

...I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from...

Review of Premier Travel Inn Glasgow - City Centre (Charing Cross), Glasgow

Gateway to Glasgow and Scotland

Advantages: Local, dont need to fly from English airports. Good road connections
Disadvantages: No direct rail link

...Glasgow International Airport ( or Abbotsinch for those of us with longer memories ) is visible from the M8 motorway about 8 miles out of Glasgow and a mile or so from Paisley. So is very accessible to reach by car. It is my local airport and I have flown from here many a time on both international and domestic flights. One thing to confirm, if you are using a low cost airline, is which Glasgow Airport you are going to. There is another - Glasgow Prestwick ( airport code PIK ) which is about 25 miles south of Glasgow. Ryanair fly to Prestwick not Glasgow. There are 5 different parking areas from immediately opposite the terminal to approximately ¾ of a mile away. The bumf says it is served by a shuttle bus but as we all know, the regularity and frequency quoted in official leaflets can leave a lot to be desired. I haven’...

Luxurious Inverness

Advantages: Beautiful Hotel, Fantastic View
Disadvantages: Very Expensive, Location

...The Culloden House Hotel is located just outside Inverness near Culloden Battlefield. We spent a night in the hotel at the end of September. We stayed in one of the Junior Garden Suites. The suite was gorgeous and had two rooms; both the bedroom and the lounge had beautiful views of the grounds. The rooms were large and bright with tasteful decor. The bathroom was enormous and beautifully done in marble. I usually have trouble with hotel beds, but our bed was not too soft and extremely comfortable! I didn't want to leave! The staff is polite, accommodating and very helpful. Unfortunately, since the stay was so short we didn't get the chance to eat in the restaurant - which by all accounts is worth a trip up to Inverness in itself! Therefore, I cannot honestly rate the food as excellent as I didn't try it. The only...

Review of Culloden House Hotel, Inverness

Arguably the most scenic railway line in the UK

Advantages: Impressive scenery
Disadvantages: Cold carriages, weather can be a factor in spoiling views, not many services

...the station office at Dingwall was shut) - several people were taking advantage of this. This was a Friday in January and there was only one service to Kyle all day - leaving Dingwall at 1120, arriving at Kyle around 1330 and departing again at 1515, returning to Dingwall about 1730. Make sure you know the timetable as there may not be a suitable alternative means of transport available if you miss the train! A tip - sit on the right hand side of the train if possible going to Kyle, and the left returning to Dingwall or Inverness. You will see the best views. For many people, the attraction of the Kyle line is its scenic nature - arguably the line with the best views in the whole of the UK. From Dingwall to Lochluichart the views are mainly of trees although Loch Garve provides a welcome break in the monotony. Beyond Garve station the line...

Café Hula - Great Homecooked Food in the Heart of Glasgow

Advantages: Great food, good value, handy for Theatre Royal, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service
Disadvantages: None really. But you might get undercharged!

...spotted the odd thespian here too (including John Savident (Coronation "Ashley, I say, Ashley" Street) who was starring in HMS Pinafore). I am lead to believe that Café Hula is run by a husband and wife team, both of whom operate mainly back of house, although it has one of those fairly open dining/kitchen areas. It is a bustling and busy place but with a relaxing buzz; it has been busy on each occasion that we have eaten here (although that has been either Friday or Saturday early evening) and I would definitely recommend booking at the weekend to avoid disappointment. We have only ever eaten here pre-theatre and each time it has been a very positive and enjoyable experience. The staff are mainly young, and are enthusiastic, friendly and efficient. Some are from overseas, possibly students in Glasgow, and their...

Abode hotel glasgow.

Advantages: Fantastic hotel. Trendy. Perfect place to stay when you visit glasgow.
Disadvantages: NOT A THING.

...Well i must say what a wonderful hotel. Me and my girlfriend booked a night at Abode glasgow on new years eve and loved it so much we booked a second night in the morning just after we enjoyed the best breakfast we had for years. We both live in glasgow but wanted a nice hotel to go back to after enjoying the new year celebrations in george square. We just could not be botherd with the hasle getting home. It is bad enough getting a taxi on a normal saturday night, think what it would be like with ten thousand all trying to get a taxi at the one time. I loved the way the hotel has been decorated. It is very modern but they have kept alot of the old features. Including a very old life in the centre of the hotel, with a very modern water feature flowing right down the lift framework. I think it is fantastic that they have kept all...

cheap hotel in glasgow

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: --

...**** Argyll Hotel**** **Location/Getting there** This hotel isn't dead central in Glasgow as you have to walk for quite a while down Sauchiehall street but it is a great budget hotel to stay in if you are planning to go to the SECC.They even have maps to help you get from the hotel to the SECC and it only takes about 15 minutes to walk it. **Reception/staff** The hotel isn't that glamourous or anything but the staff are always very helpful and friendly. You get the feeling that they like their job which is nice instead of having a scowling member of staff. **Hotel/Room** Pretty much every time i have stayed in this hotel i have had the same room. Its pretty standard as rooms go .It is always very clean and tidy,it has a kettle and some biscuits. The shower is okay. They always give us plenty of pillows . **Other** They...

Review of Argyll Hotel, Glasgow

Inverness is the biz

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...One of the fastest growing towns in Europe, Inverness is regarded as being the 'Capital of the Highlands'. For Scottish people Inverness makes a welcome change from the big cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. For other visitors Inverness makes an excellent base from which to explore the 'real' Scotland. The real beauty of Inverness lies in the fact that the town services nearly the whole of the Highlands. The town itself is relatively small, which adds to its overall charm. The great thing is that although the town is quite small the huge catchment area means that the range of services available is staggering. There are very few places that have so much facilities on offer within such a small area. Going out for a drink in Inverness is not an experience to be missed. Many of the pubs attract a starnge mixture of clientel. You can find young...
