...The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was founded by Ray McVay in the 80's . This was done after talks with the Glenn Miller Estate, who had listened to many of Ray McVay's tracks. Who is Ray McVay? Ray McVay was born in the late 30's in Scotland. He became a professional musician at the tender age of 13 as a rocking sax player. In the 50's he became a music director for many big names such as Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty and Billy Fury. As Rays name got bigger and better known in the music industry, and fronted his own show band known as the Ray McVay Orchestra. 'You'll leave the Pennsylvania ice shop 'bout a quarter to four, read a magazine and then you're in for some more, shove a lot of cream in, gotta keep tum filling, woo woo caramel, you I adore!' This ice cream makes me happy and when I am happy I like to sing. Perhaps if our Glenn had encountered the delights of Ben and Jrry's caramel chew chew ice cream his version of 'chattanooga choo choo' might have been slightly different and he might have been more interested in eating than flying around the place raising morale with songs and could still be alive today. ...Just previous to this review I'd had a bottle of San Miguel ("San Awful"- http://www.ciao.co.uk/SanMiguelPremiumLagerReview5632358), then sat down to a bottle of Miller. Thankfully I'd still had a Miller left in the fridge after the previous nights drinking. Miller is one of the few beers that comes in a clear glass bottle (as the beers can be given a malty taste if left in sun light, as can also be seen in Corona extra), Miller is an American 4.7% import from apparently America's second top company. Which they claim as being "America's quality beer", personally I'd agree. Now onto the actual review...well actually it wasn't, the review was started like 2 weeks ago but I never actualy got round to finishing it as my flat mate drank the one I saved so here's the review as I've got one with me. ...One of the few things in this world capable of dragging me away from the keyboard apart from the need to sleep and eat was the showing of The Glen Miller Story on ITV on Sunday. The Benny Goodman Story, The Al Jolson Story and The Great Caruso are three others of a very limited list. Starring James Stewart and June Allyson and supported by Henry Morgan (of MASH fame) this purports to be the story of how the Glen Miller Orchestra became famous world wide. O.K. so it dramatised things quite a bit but essentially it sort of followed his life. However they couldn't "fake" the music and the "sound". That was real and a treat to hear. ...I am going to review one of the older books as Judith Miller brings one of these books out every year. She also brings out an antiques price guide annually aswell the paticualar one I am using as reference is the 1997 to 1998 version. Judith miller and her team go round different auction houses and photograph items that are worth a fair bit. A lot of these things are modern day collectables, starting from the later end of the 19th century up to present day. each page has photos of the items which include a price, ie valuers estimate, say as £25-£40 If you go to car boots or flea markets it would be a good idea to look through one of these books, and get an idea of whats worth something amd what's it not.
