Advantages: Comfortable, spacious, well equipped, surprisingly powerful Disadvantages: Multiple small problems led to engine failure, poor fuel economy
...I paid £300 from a friend for this my first car. Brought in 2004 and I only replaced it when it failed. The 405 GLX is a good powerful mid-sized car which is comfortable and hard wearing.
The car
I had the 1.6 GLX saloon model. I would suggest choosing a fuel-injected model. The saloon models have masses of space in both the back seat and especially i the boot, more than enough for a family holiday and too much for a weks shopping.
The GLX is the top of the range with lots of little extras; electric front-seat windows, driver air bag, dual breaking system, power steering, factory air conditioning, fuel injection, fold down rear seat, center arm rest and small covered opening into boot to store ski's extra. Also contains velvet-like seat covers, adjustable lumbar supports for both passenger and driver, adjustable steering wheel...

Review of Peugeot 405 GLX
Advantages: Economical, Practical and Comfortable Disadvantages: A little noisy and servicing needed reguarly
...~
The 309 was first introduced in 1986 replacing their earlier model the 305.
Peugeot had designed the car to be more of a practical car therefore the mechanical side was sound and pretty much up to a high standard.
The model ranged throughout in the engine size and types, including Diesel and Petrol as well as 1.3 all the way to a massive 1.9Gti 16v. I currently own the manual 1.6 GLX but am soon hoping to change the engine size to a bigger GTi giving me a huge 160bhp.
~ Car History / Service ~
I've owned the car for 8 months and since have only had a slight clutch problem and problems with the brake lights, which is electrical. Its passed all but 2 of its MoT's as to what I can see and proves to be a reliable motor however there's been much service done on Oil leaks which...

Review of Peugeot 309 GLX
Advantages: Comfortable, Luxurious, Elegant Car Disadvantages: Has a bit of a Drinking Problem
..., because of the hugely inflated costs in Israel would be totally irrelevant to quote for you here - even if I translated it into UK or US money). It came down to a choice between two cars and when one owner decided not to accept our offer, we ended up with a 1995 Peugeot 405 GLX.
This little baby was apparently owned by some boss-man who traveled abroad frequently. In other words - low mileage (kilometrage, as the case may be) but a bit neglected. For instance, the passenger seat's electric window was somewhat sticky (and still is, but then, I didn't think it important to fix it), and there were some loose things here and there - but nothing that a few pulls with a wrench couldn't handle.
The GLX is considered to be the luxury model of this car, and so it is. It has all those nice little extras like the electric front-seat windows...

Review of Peugeot 405 GLX
Advantages: Good Looking, Plenty of space in the front Disadvantages: Poor quality interior, Poor engine performance
...Over the last few weeks we've been considering changing our main car from a 406 to a 307. The reason being we need the easier to use boot space of a hatchback.
As such, we went to test drive a Peugeot 307 HDI (90) GLX over the last weekend.
Having owned a 406 for a couple of years we expected to find the same good quality interior and engine performace as we were used to. However, the interior of the 307, despite being a reasonably high spec model was clearly inferior to that of the 406 and was badly worn even though this car had covered a similar mileage to our own.
The engine was equally disapointing and although being exactly the same as that in the 406 lacked any real acceleration and was very noisy for a modern diesel.
Seating space in the front was good and well laid out although the back was cramped for adults. Boot...
Advantages: Economy, Flexibility, Roomy Disadvantages: Not so cheap to insure, expensive dealer servicing
...So - we got our Space Star when it had just had the "colt" prefix dropped from it's name. We bought in December 2000 - a nice little metallic green 1.3GLX from our local main dealer (Marshalls in Cambridge). We paid a fair price and haggled and got a good deal. At the time there were no special offers - but it didn't matter as they had the car in stock and were keen to mee their monthly target.
Anyway, we p/ex'ed our old fiat and away we went.
Plenty of space inside for us and the dog (at the time it was only one) - and even space with 2 dogs and a toddler now - it's been great on that front.
Where has it not been so great. Well - servicing costs were a tad expensive to be honest. Main dealers always are - but the major service of £250 for oil, plugs, filters, brake fluid, coolant and a general check over was expensive...
Advantages: Looks, luxury, decent speed, fab 6 CD changer, enough space even for my golf clubs Disadvantages: I find it difficult to see front of car for parking
