...There's a song that features on the soundtrack of many of my favourite films that goes: "No matter where we go, London, Paris, Rome, It feels like Anywhere, USA" It's never something I really understood, since to me those three capitals are all very different from each other, and to anywhere in the USA that I've been, but I figured it was written by someone who'd never actually left the States, and who based their assumptions on the Hollywood version of Europe that comes across in films. Dreaming of Golden Sands

...Gorton Sands Caravan Site is my favourite campsite. I visit it every year and have been doing so for at least the last 16 years (and I?m only 24!!) LOCATION Gorton Sands is a great campsite situated on the western coast in the Highlands of Scotland. It is situated about 1.25 miles from a small village called Arisaig and about 6 miles from a harbour town called Mallaig. Both of these places are situated in an area known as the ?Road to the Isles?. Mountains Of Golden Sand

Advantages: one of the greatest sights on Earth

...I visited it was dry, but still astoundingly beautiful, with the mosaic cracked mud and salt crystals contrasting with the golden red dunes and clear blue skies. It is photographer's paradise. The best time to see Sossusvlei is at sunrise, as not only is it cool, but the changing colours as the sun creeps over the dunes are spectacular. I was still driving down the 63Km road from the entrance gates to the car park as the sun rose, but it was truely beautiful. The huge sand dunes change from red to pale gold, and the sky goes through a whole spectrum of colours before settling on deep blue. As well as towering dunes, from the road lines of acacia trees are visible in the otherwise apparantly lifeless desert, which mark ancient underground rivers, the life source for so many of the local species. ...I stayed at the Golden Sands hotel in October 2004. We paid £800 for a package holiday, spending 3 nights in Bangkok and 7 nights in Cha Am at the Golden Sands. The hotel was large but consisted mainly of German or Russian guests. We were the only British couple staying at the hotel which wasn't really a problem but it is always nice to meet new people on holiday. The hotel is about 2 and a half hours drive from Bangkok airport (our transfers were included so I would not be able to tell you how much this journey would cost you) Cha Am is a very small village and is close to Hua Hin. Our hotel room was spacious and had beautiful views across the pool and across to the beach. The hotel pool was literally 50 metres from the beach. Golden Sands Haven Holiday

Advantages: Cheap as done on Sun holiday tokens

...We visited Haven's Golden Sands park in Mablethorpe in October 2007 as part of the Sun's £9.50 British holidays. On arrival you had to wait with everyone in their entertainment hall to be processed (given keys and maps of the site etc.), this was done very quickly and effeciently even though it looked like it could have taken for ever it was done quickly. I had a 2 year old and a 5 month old and was looking forward to all of the child friendly things. However, on our fisrt visit to the pool we discovered that their were no family changing rooms, so we had to take a child each and split up the swim bag. This was a shock as most swimming pools have either family changing areas or somewhere on the pool side to change kids, but not here. I feel an update was needed to the entire pool. The children's club put on for the younger kids...

Moon sand claims to be 'sand that moulds like dough', it is not exactly wet, just made in a way that makes it mould like it is, whilst never drying out (as it is not actually wet, if that makes sense?) Price: Around £20 for this particular pack. My 3 year old son was bought this for his birthday earlier this month, so I thought I would share our experiences with you! The pack contains 1 blow up mat, 1 sheet of scenery, 1 packet of grey coloured sand, 3 sand moulds and 1 spade thingy. Firstly you have to blow up the play mat/carry case (coloured green and blue), this is designed to keep the sand contained in one area whilst being played with and somewhere to keep it when not in use. Golden Sands (Mablethorpe)

Advantages: The only advantages of Golden Sands is its location next to a long sandy beach.
Disadvantages: Everything else !

...would never go back to Golden Sands. The park is nowhere near up to Havens usual standards. Having previously owned a caravan at Littlesea and knowing the strict guidelines we had to follow regarding caravan equipment etc, this was the worst Haven holiday my family has ever had to endure. The only positive note I can say is that the pantomine and Legends were fantastic to watch. *Edit* Forgot to put in that part of the window trim was missing from the main bedroom window. This was not obvious at first glance because of the way the "1 curtain" closed. The window was badly fitted in one of the twin bedrooms leaving a gap that you could poke your finger in. We also had problems with the cooker. The left back ring would make popping sounds and the gas would suddenly turn off. The front right ring wouldnt work as the knob had ceased...
