The Victorian style packaging has gained cult status in the design and packaging world. When everyone had to make sacrifices for the World War I effort the syrup was packaged in thick cardboard containers in order to save using precious metal. In 1911 Lyle`s syrup was awarded a Royal Warrant which has sat in a prominent position on the tin ever since. Lyle's registered their trademark of the `Lion and the Bee`s` in 1904. I love Lyles Golden Syrup, may would automatically say how bad it is for you, but eaten in moderation its fine. Advantages: very sweet, great on toast.

...Where to start......... Having a sweet tooth, LOL what an understatement, I am naturally drawn to a product such as this. Liquid sugar sweeter than sweet. Most of us can instantly recognise the familiar Green Tins with the famous lion that this magic liquid normally comes in. Now there's nothing wrong with the tin except when in comes to pancakes or crumpets. First you've got to prise open the tin then get a spoon twist a dollop of syrup onto the spoon and then the pancake all without making a mess. Problem solved, put it in a squeezable container where quantities can be controlled. For me thats a slight drawback to the tin since too much on the spoon = too much hassle to put back into tin = more on pancake RESULT. ...Let me tell you what I am eating for my pudding tonight, its Mac vities Lyles golden syrup cake cake, yes one I bought from tesco for £1.13p. This cake weighs 291g. Lyles have been making this cake for about 20 years (or ones like it ) This cake is wrapped in a green and blue plastic foil wrapper with the Tate and Lyle's lion on it. This wrapper keeps the cake moist and fresh for quite a long time, use by dates is usually a long way ahead. This cake is a lovely golden brown colour I love golden syrup, (I can remember eating golden syrup on bread as a nipper) and this cake is no exception. I will sometimes eat this cake with a cup of tea, sometimes for a pudding warmed up and served with custard or cream perhaps some golden syrup poured onto it. NOT so Syrup Crunch

Disadvantages: Very hard to find in the shops

...I'll start of by saying that should you wish to purchase a packet of these delicious biscuits I hope you have more success than I have had. I did manage to find a pack a week or so ago, but on a recent search there were none to be had. McVities make many biscuits of this kind and most of them are readily available at ASDA and places like that. There are normally a dozen biscuits in the colourful packet, which has a picture on its face of the product contained within. The packet retails for about 69p depending on where you purchase them. The packet has a red plastic strip to help open the plastic wrapping, but as usual I fail to find this until too late and have already ripped the packet open to reveal the golden contents. They most certainly smell of syrup as I the gorgeous aroma hits my nose and I anticipate the pleasure to come...
