Advantages: Equipment, Fuel Economy, Handling Disadvantages: Lacks the character of previous models.
...The VW Golf - one of the most infamous cars known. Although I must admit not being a huge fan.
I'll start with the image. I originally had a MK II Golf, which personally was my second favourite Golf. My favourite is the MK IV Golf, however I wouldn't say that the MK V was ugly, I just don't think it has the character of some of the previous models.
The inside is good, with clear dials and controls, all very sensibly placed. The materials feel soft, but of a high quality. One thing I was very pleased about is the blue and red dials and backlighting. I think it really sets off the whole interior at night. The seats feel quite firm at first, but on long journey they really are very comfortable and supportive!
The equipment levels are quite good on this model. In addition to all the expected items, such as ABS, multiple...

Review of Volkswagen Golf1.9 TDI
Advantages: The VW label/brand Disadvantages: Poor finish, poor dealer service support
...driving
* Right hand speaker failure on car audio after 2 years
* Arrogant VW service attention-much better to use an independent specialist
* Will keep this vehicle for the moment--certainly will not buy another VW Golf....
Advantages: More space than standard car, excellent fuel efficiency, safety Disadvantages: frumpy to look at, quality has deteriorated,
...This vw was purchased in May 2006 for approx 13500 pounds as a replacement for the aging Vw Passat that had clocked up nearly 200000 miles.
The Vw Golf was initially launched in the early 70's and quickly became an iconic car. This is actually the Mark 5 version. Traditionally the Vw Golf was initially available in three derivatives the three and five door hatchback and four door saloon known as the Jetta.
The Plus variant is a new model that Vw developed in 2005 to counter competition from cars such as the Citroen Xsara Picasso and Vauxhall Zafira.
Underneath the car is mechanically identical to the standard golf however the added benefit with this version is that its taller and therefore has slightly more rear and boot space than its shorter cousin.
The vehicle that we opted for was a metallic blue car. The vehicle came...
Advantages: Reliable, comfortable, great looks, a pleasure to drive Disadvantages: Do some homework before buying a second hand model
...This was my first ever "brand new" car purchase in Autumn 2002, and 5 years 2 months down the line, I've had excellent reliability, with decent fuel economy.
No major mechanical problems at all, which suits me fine, as my priority with any car is that it works smoothly and is reliable.
It's really been a great car, with great distinctive exterior looks, and welcoming comfortable cabin (you have to love the blue dashboard lighting inside on the dials).
An article I read suggests it takes considerably longer to build a VW Golf MK4 than it does it's nearest rival. You feel safe in a Volkswagen Golf. It feels secure and well put together.
And, at 5 years of age, it's again just sailed through it's MOT with no problems at all.
It's also an enjoyable driving experience. Some purists might say the 1.4 has little power...
Advantages: cheap to run, safe, cheap parts Disadvantages: Slow, soft suspension
...This is my first Golf, it is a 1995 1.4 Golf Match with 110,000 on the clock. I bought it for £1100 at a local dealer. I have had it for around 7 months now and have had no problems whatsoever.
I decided to go for the golf because of the exceptional german build quality and they hold up well in accidents. Plus with the 1.4 it is reasonably cheap to insure.
The match version has a few little extras over the CL versions, for example it has alloy wheels as standard, power steering, and there are a few changes on the interior such as upholstery design etc.
The first thing i noticed about the car was how well it holds in corners and, like others have said, the body roll! The suspension seems quite soft in this car, some may like that but others may not.
The 1.4 engine, considering its age, is quite fuel efficent. I regularly get...
Advantages: Reliable, cheap parts, looks good for an older car, Rust free Disadvantages: bit bouncy around corners
...After having an accident in my first car I decided to move on up the ladder and started looking at the VW golf's as they look good and are an extremely safe cars. I had around £1600 to spend and found a private Dealer who just buys and sell's Golf's.
It's relatively hard to find yourself a golf mark 3 onwards for that price, as they keep there value better than any other car. Because it such a well known fact how reliable they are.
I bought a 1.4 8Valve 1994 golf match in green in 2003 with 96,000 miles on the clock for £1599. Now 96,000 sounds pretty high but the VW engines are expected to carry on running, well over 160,000miles,
The golf match comes standard with alloys and a few alterations to the interior and body to give it a sportier look. although the car does not have an alarm or imobalizer, so maybe find one that has...
Advantages: Great looking car, nice drive Disadvantages: Pricing, although lower than some years ago, is still relatively high
...Recently, my poor car Joey got poorly (drove over something which severed the fuel pipe under the car) so he had to go to Dr Volkswagen, and, in the meantime while my car was being checked and fixed, I was given a courtesy car, which was a new Golf1.6 FSI, so I thought I'd review it.
The Golf is available in the 1.6 edition as an S model, SE model, Sport, GT, GTi, and R32 models. The S is the base model: as you move up through the different editions you get more extras thrown in.
The 'FSI' that's included in the name doesn't appear to mean anything: having scoured the VW website to find out if there is any significance to the name, I have to report that I can't find any. Please let me know if I'm wrong in this, and I'll update my review as necessary! Basically, if you want a 1.6l Golf, it's going to be an FSI model. Some 1.4l...
Advantages: Great interior, wonderful drive Disadvantages: Costs more than other cars similar to it
...Almost 6 months ago I decided to trade in my Ford Fiesta and get a proper car. I'd pretty much set my heart on a Golf but needed to try some other cars and also decide what mark Golf I wanted. After test driving a few cars I finally decided that the Golf was my favourite and that was what I was going to get. Next onto whether to get a mark 4 or mark 5. From the outside I definitely prefer the mark 4. Its more distinguished and easily recognisable. The mark 5 is recognisable but is not in the same category as the mark 4.
The thing that sold it to me was the interior. Once you site inside the mark 5 you can't help but be impressed. Of course the coolest thing of all (for both cars) is the blue dials but aside from the mark 5 looks and feels much better than its predecessor. As soon as you sit down at the drivers seat you are surrounded...
Advantages: Good Drive and loads of space Disadvantages: Few extras
...Having taken a job with a 80 mile journey, and following on from advise from my sister who already had a '97 diesel golf I purchased the 1.9 E sdi Golf. The service from the dealer was good and 15% of list price helped in this deal, with the Volkwagon name. I have already covered 2000 miles in 40 days and the diesel has come into itself with fuel gauge moving very slowly. The golf has very good handling on the motor way and is a pleasure to drive on other roads. The car's shape and headlights make it stand out from the rest in it class. In negative the cost of the is above that in the same class and comes with very few extra as standard, however not being a car person it is not something which is high on my list for car purchase. Most buyer will be like me, not wanting a "boy racer car" just something dependable to get travel...
Advantages: reliablility, just keeps going, cheap to run Disadvantages: poor brakes
...I have recently been given golf mark 1, 3 door hatchback , by an old neighbour who can no longer drive due to illness. It was locked away in his garage and was only ever used for shopping trips and bingo hall runs.
its a Blue 1983 - Y reg, with 3 doors and a measly 1.1 litre petrol engine. I spent the last 2 weeks cleaning the car up and checking all the mechanics and everything seems to be running fine after a good service. What amazes me is that the car is so quick and nippy just from having a small engine but on further investigation I found out the car weighs only 500Kg. I can also fit in the car incredibly well even though I am over 6 foot in height. It obviously dosent have all the safety features and reinforced bodywork that modern day cars have and has barely no real technology, not even power steering. This is exactly what...
