...Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club 'A good walk spoiled' is how one man once described golf but he was obviously a fool as there are few better ways to pass the time than by playing this most majestic of sports. In my part of the world we are spoilt for choice when it comes to courses and there are ones to suit all standards and pockets. Chelsfield Lakes is a pleasant pay and play course that will satisfy most golfers from beginners to good players. Very low handicappers may not find it enough of a challenge but for us mere mortals it has more than enough to keep us interested without ruining our confidence. The lakes of the title is bit misleading as there are only two on the course. Great golf clubs at a great price!

Advantages: decent clubs, very cheap
Disadvantages: the lowest iron is a 5 iron

...happy and couldn't quite believe that they cost just £57.99 and this included the bag too! I went straight to the local driving range and hit about 100 balls using most of the clubs and was delighted with them. I have since played about eight rounds of golf with the clubs and they feel great. The set is designed for novice / intermediate players and the clubs have enlarged heads to guarantee that you should hit the ball with more accuracy, which helps when you are just starting out. The set comprises of a 3 wood driver, a hybrid club which is the equivalent of a 2 or 3 iron, a 5 iron, 6 iron, 7 iron, 8 iron, 9 iron, pitching wedge and sand wedge. Of all the clubs I find the 9 iron and the 6 irons the easiest to use, with the hybrid club the most difficult - probably because it is quite long and this would emphasis floors in you're swing...

I found it well thought out and certainly very different from what I was expecting. The wee lass was in tow, not to play herself, (the course was just a tad too difficult for her) but to drive the ride-on buggy that her old dad had booked to conserve his energy in the roasting temperatures you can get in Rome at this time of year. This was another reason for the early start. At 7.30AM the temperature was a very pleasant 25 degrees centigrade, although it rose to a stifling 40 degrees by the time we finished the round! ...Niddry Castle Golf Club is a 9 hole course at Castle Road, Winchburgh, West Lothian, which is approximately 10 miles from the centre of Edinburgh and 45 miles from Glasgow. It is a parkland course playing around Niddry Castle with an 18 Hole length of 5518yds (Par 70)(4612yds Par 68 Ladies). It is fairly tight in places with water coming into play on 5 of the 9 holes. Another 9 holes are currently being built with a completion date of Spring 2003. Niddry Castle itself dates from 1490 and it is known that Mary Queen of Scots sought refuge there in 1568.
