...Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club 'A good walk spoiled' is how one man once described golf but he was obviously a fool as there are few better ways to pass the time than by playing this most majestic of sports. In my part of the world we are spoilt for choice when it comes to courses and there are ones to suit all standards and pockets. Chelsfield Lakes is a pleasant pay and play course that will satisfy most golfers from beginners to good players. Very low handicappers may not find it enough of a challenge but for us mere mortals it has more than enough to keep us interested without ruining our confidence. The lakes of the title is bit misleading as there are only two on the course. Disadvantages: the lowest iron is a 5 iron

Advantages: Marvellous course and facilities. Very inexpensive.
Disadvantages: Not a lot.

Murder at the Golf Club

Advantages: Unusual but good well thought out story
Disadvantages: major characters were weak

I found it well thought out and certainly very different from what I was expecting. It was a good mystery that leads the reader down an avenue you would not expect, certainly when you read the summary of it. American shopping clubs hit the UK at last

Advantages: Cheap; Lots of choice;
Disadvantages: Can get carried away; No help with large items

...We are fortunate to have a friend who is an owner-driver of a big cement truck. Fortunate because he takes my husband out to play in it and also because he was able to get us a Costco card. Costco isn't like Makro, (where it is difficult to get a pass card), but it is expensive. It costs £25 a year for Individual membership (you can have one other person on your card for that). As our friend the cement-driver has a Trade membership, he can have a number of people registered under his name and they all get their own cards for £14 each. They let children in too - which I'm not sure is a terribly good idea! Ours walk around saucer-eyed with a list of "I want"s. Is it worth it? Yes. We saved that on the first shopping trip. The wee lass was in tow, not to play herself, (the course was just a tad too difficult for her) but to drive the ride-on buggy that her old dad had booked to conserve his energy in the roasting temperatures you can get in Rome at this time of year. This was another reason for the early start. At 7.30AM the temperature was a very pleasant 25 degrees centigrade, although it rose to a stifling 40 degrees by the time we finished the round! (That's HOT when you're playing golf, believe me.) ~ ~ The Marco Simone Golf Club and Resort is one of the most luxurious golf and sport complexes in Italy.
