...This course was constructed by Elmwood College, which is the top European College for Golf Management Studies, and opened in 1997. Regrettably, I think they have to study a bit harder. To give it the benefit of the doubt, the course was originally agricultural land and still has a lot of settling in to do. You still get the feeling of walking from field to field as a lot of the original walls are still there. The surrounding countryside is open farmland with Tarvit Hill to the south and Lomond Hills to the west. It’s a lovely setting and the welcome cannot be faulted. THE COURSE It’s a par 70 (sss 68) for men and par 73 (sss72) for ladies. The course is pretty straightforward with only a few greenside bunkers (no fairway bunkers). They would all rank in the top twenty or so in the country, and consequently the cost of playing them can sometimes be prohibitive, especially for the golfer who is simply after a pleasant game of golf without having to re-mortgage their house for the privilege. As well as this, most of the top ranking courses require you to book your round well in advance, (and pay for it up-front!) and also ask you for a handicap certificate from your home club to ensure that you are not a complete ‘hacker’, and thus liable to cut their hallowed turf to shreds. ...I recently had the pleasure of playing 9 holes at the fairly new Newport golf complex. The cost of playing here is very reasonable six pounds for 9 holes or eight pounds for 18 holes. This kind of fee makes playing golf accesable to all members of the public. As we tee-ed off at the 1st (292 par 4) I was very suprised at the quality of the fairways, considering it is a pay-as-you-play course they were very good, as too were the greens. It does have one or two challenges though, the 170 yard par 3 ninth hole with water guarding the front edge of the green for example. Overall a thouroughly enjoyable golf course for beginner and seasoned campaigners alike!...

...Brackley golf course is a 9-hole setup in the Walkden area of Greater Manchester. I have played there for many a year and have never got bored yet, always finding new shots and a fresh challenge with each visit. At £4 for 18 hole there is simply no better value for money if you fancy a Saturday afternoon hack. It seems with this little gem of a course the most has been made from a good few acres of farmland adjoining the M61 motorway and in a nutshell it will provide a challenge to the 20+/non handicapper without severely punishing errant shots. The course I will stress is bunkerless but there are ample depressions which collect rain and serve as great water hazards. REAL HISTORICAL GOLF - HICKORY CLUBS AND ALL

Disadvantages: Lack of catering facilities attached to the course but plenty in the vicinity

...HISTORY Musselburgh Old Course Golf Links is the oldest course in the world still in play and if you fancy a game with hickory clubs, then this is the place to come. It is reputed that Mary Queen of Scots played here in 1567 although the earliest tangible evidence only goes back to 1672. This course is steeped in history and has been attributed with various honours. The diameter of the hole (4.25 inches) is one such distinction as it was the size of the cutting implement used at Musselburgh and the R&A made the size mandatory in 1893. It is set on a Golf course and has very picteresque surroundings (apart from when you look out front to the bypass). Disadvantages: You've got to motivate yourself!

...BSY offers over 250 courses for anyone to undertake at home (though some do require a final examination in a particular place). When I decided to get my life in order I looked for the cheapest and best place to do Pet Psychology and BSY won, so I rang them up and the really nice lady offered me a 2 for 1 deal and I'm now doing Holistic Animal Healing also. Now, I'm not the most motivated person in the world - bear in mind I started this in Jan 2006! Anyway, I've finally sent off my final examinations and hopefully I'll receive qualifications soon. Everything I received and needed for the course was sent through the post with envelopes to send it back once completed. I get to keep all the course materials too. I know that different courses require you to purchase your own equipment and take exams so I can only comment on the 2 above...
