This work includes over a thousand nuggets of Burnley FC trivia that is sure to entertain every fan! Their history sparkles with international players, 'football firsts' and record breaking achievements. This book is one which is mainly 'off the record'. Burnley Football Club comes from the smallest town ever to win the League Division One, and the F.A. Cup. Some big city clubs at present in the Premier League have won neither! Among their players have been a Footballer of the Year, one who played for Great Britain, several who played in World Cups, and at least one who captained his country. Here you can read some of the queer, quaint and quirky things that have been part of the past 125 years in Clarets history. Eg Who scored three goals for England and was never picked again? When did ten Blackburn Rovers players walk off the pitch? When did Burnley play ten Scots in the first team, making the only Englishman feel 'lonely'? And what has golf in a hotel bedroom got to do with anything? It is all in the Burnley FC Miscellany.

Jennifer d'Abo At Home is subtitled "Recipes for Stylish People in a Hurry", which probably disqualifies this reviewer from comment. Who can these stylish people be? Fashion editors? Society hostesses? Peter Mandelson? At any rate this very smart production, "assembled at the repeated requests of her many friends who have enjoyed and even marvelled at the dinners and lunches she so graciously presents in her own home" (as the publishers tell us), rather begs the question of why stylish people in a hurry should be doing their own cooking in the first place. For pity's sake, what are servants and restaurants for? Can it be that Jennifer d'Abo is short of a bob or two and is doing it for the money? She certainly looks worried in the cover photograph, rather fretfully posed in the Chinese Room of Blake's Hotel (so stylish it makes your teeth hurt). What about the recipes? How do they rate for stylishness? Truth to tell, most are rather humdrum little dinner party or lunch dishes, perfectly good but nothing out of the ordinary. But they are lifted by association. Beetroot Terrine With Sour Cream and Chives, for example, a very simple jellied borscht, is transformed by the knowledge that was created for the wife of the US ambassador "because she liked beetroots and England". Or Curried Melon Balls (melon, curry powder, mayonnaise), admired by Kenneth J. Lane, "the most famous and talented designer of costume jewellery, the best host in New York". As for Cod With Egg Sauce: "My son always eats it at Swinley Forest Golf Club". Conceivably useful, therefore, as a repertoire of quick meals, if that's what you need, although you might have to give your guests a bit of background information. Or if you're one of Jennifer d'Abo's many friends you'll have bought it already. --Robin Davidson
Advantages: Glorious scenery, in all weathers; lovely and peaceful Disadvantages: Occasional tailbacks on narrow roads at the height of the tourist season
...one thing I?ve never needed to concern myself with, but there are numerous bed and breakfasts, particularly in the pubs, as well as hotels in the large towns and cities mentioned
Dartmoor is sometimes described as ?England?s last wilderness?. Maybe that?s an exaggeration, but there is many a spot where you can imagine yourself well off the beaten track....
Advantages: Some brave battles Disadvantages: Some woeful surrenders
...Two of the three lions have wondered off in the African bush and the nation is not happy. To celebrate yet another England flop I'm going to write about my five most memorable England matches in my World Cup lifetime to sheer you up. I wasn't born for 66 and all that and only slightly bigger than one of Koshka's clutch handbags in 1970 for that Germany rematch and so for me I can only comment...

...Callaway Hard Wood Golf Tees
After scooping a lucky first place win at a golf competition a short while ago, my other half came away with a good few Callaway items which although top quality didn't interest him that much and he passed on to our little man who is mad keen on golf as well.
These Callaway Golf Tee's come in a handy little cardboard box and there are 70 tees in the box...
