...Good Charlotte come across as the musical version of Marmite - you either love em or hate em, with the musical press showing absolutely no faith in the band nor their music, it has been left to their overflowing fan base to silence the critics. The band themselves have made public notice that they have absolutely no interest in what the media have to say and simply let the fans pass judgement on each new release, all of which have sold a cool 15 million to date. Debut album - Good Charlotte

Advantages: greatest debut album - im a huge fan can't you tell?!?!
Disadvantages: I'll save every chav from reading this - its not for you!

...If you've read my review for Good Charlotte Young and the not so Hopeless, you'll know that I haven't been a Good Charlotte fan since this album came out in September 2000. IN fact I bought The Chronicles of Life and Death first, then Young and the Hopeless then I bought this album. But even though I bought them in that order I still think that this album is great, although they have changed slightly. The lyrics are better, the music sounds better and they have grown up so the music is changing to what they are listening to - not what they are listening to when they were 20. My personal favourites from this album are; Waldorf Worldwide (track 2), The Motivation Proclamation (track 3), East Coast Anthem (track 3), I heard you (track 9), The Click (track 10), Let me go (track 12) and the bonus track - which is on after Change - called...

This is one of their best creations so far just after an additon to their 4 member band they release this great album. 15 excellent tracks including ' Meet my maker' a bonus on some of the CDs. I've loved listining to this album and i've had it for ages now, still can't turn it off! You can find the lyrics in the inside sleeve which can't be found anywhere else as Epic records won't publish them on the internet due to copyright reasons. 1. Good Charlotte - The Young & The Hopeless

Advantages: fun to listen to, thought inducing
Disadvantages: people instantly discard it as kiddy music

...I write this as an 18 yr old who owns the album. Now I get that fact out of the way because all you ever hear these days (largely due to the number of copy-cat bands) is 'good charlotte are pop music for 12yr olds'. I have a problem with that statement - firstly no music in this genre is specifically aimed at any particular age group and secondly it isn't pop music. Good Charlotte's two main members, Benji and Joel Madden wrote this record with the aim of helping their fans get through the bad times that they are going through, and of which the Madden twins had already experienced themselves. So for anyone who has seen Good Charlotte at anytime, forget the 'fake' image and listen to the meaningful lyrics of these 14 fantastic songs. ...Having known of Good Charlotte for quite a while and finding some of there previous material quite good I don?t know what I expected from this album. But I didn?t expect an album full of the same beat, standard guitaring and lyrics which are just lacking inspiration(Even if thy do have meaning). GC are one of the bands which have largely promoted pop punk(along with the likes of busted) and not the good kind of pop punk either(Like Not By Choice and New Found Glory) but the kind of pop punk which has a fan base of 12 year old girls who scream for the front man and think they are right rebels for listening to this kind of music. ...It's funny what 5 years can do to a band. Back in the days of The Young & The Hopeless the Madden twins et al scoffed at millionaires with their brand new cars and fancy things, yet now they epitomise the stereotype to a tee, name-dropping big money endorsements as if they were going out of fashion on latest album Good Morning Revival. For that reason alone there's the temptation to simply fob off ?Revival as further expansion of Good Charlotte's 2004 clunker Chronicles Of Life & Death, but once you take the time to look past the kind of lyrical deficiencies that plague the likes of 'Keep Your Hands Off My Girl' and 'All Black', you start to realise that maybe Good Morning Revival could simply be a case of Joel and Benji having fun with themselves, pandering to the lifestyles they now so wholeheartedly adorn.
