...The Good Food magazine is a monthly cookery magazine produced by the BBC and claims to be the UK's Number 1 food magazine. It costs £2.90 per issue but if you subscribe it can work out as little as £2.33 delivered direct to your door. I am lucky enough to receive my Good Food magazine as a wedding anniversary present from my mother and father-in-law, maybe they think I need some help in feeding their son! Inside there is a recipe index divided into Starters, Vegetarian, Fish, Meat, Chicken Duck and Game, Baking and Desserts. Each is colour coded to show easy recipes, ones that serve only 1 or 2 people, low fat (12g or less of fat per portion), superhealthy (less than 5g of fat and low in sugar and salt), special diet, kids will love these and healthy options. Good Food, Excellent Book

Advantages: Clear design, precise recipes
Disadvantages: It won't stay open while cooking, plus you will put on a lot of weight...

...Recipe books come in two varieties these days - the first are the huge coffee table hardbacks from your favourite TV and celebrity chefs, which are generally one part recipe to three parts glossy photography and self-important whiffling from the chef. The second are the small practical books that are just jammed full of recipes fit to burst. I have a lot of books, so it stands to reason that I prefer my cooking information to be a bit more... condensed. I've received a few of the BBC Good Food 101 books as presents over the years, and my opinions have been, sad to say, mixed. I remember seeing a recipe for Jamaican Jerk Chicken and being terribly excited... until I read it and saw that it was something along the lines of 'get some chicken and fry it with Jamaican Jerk seasoning'. Cakes and bakes avoids that sort of corner...

~Good Food is more than a Good Read~

Advantages: informative, full of recipes,tips and interesting articles
Disadvantages: Too many adverts

...I have been a subscriber to Good Food for about 2 years now, and look fowrard each month to the latest issue. At a cost of £2.99 it may seem a little on the expensive side, but I do feel it is good value for money. Apart from the usual recipe ideas, it also covers topics like What's in season, which is very helpful if you want to cut down on food miles, it also means buying what is in season is cheaper than buying something that's not that has been flown from half way round the world. The magazine also covers issues such as travel, kitchen designs, competitions tips on healthy eating, recipes from celebrity chefs , such as Gordon Ramsey and James Martin and a very good readers questions page, which I have found answers things I was interested in knowing too., it also runs with the BBc Good Food website. Can't Cook, Won't Cook, Good Food

Advantages: Cheap, some excellent features, great photography.
Disadvantages: It assumes that the reader can't or won't cook.

...Good Food is a misnomer. They ought to call it "Can't Cook Won't Cook Good Food". BBC Good Food is a glossy magazine of around 150 pages, packed with stunning photography, an abundance of horribly mediocre recipes, and the occasional gem. It sells on the premise that the reader is interested in food. One might hope that it would be pitched at the keen home cook, whether amateur or professional. This used to be the case but a few years back the change of editor (from Mitzie Wilson to Orlando Murrin) coincided with a major dumbing down of the publication. I subscribed to this magazine for years but the final straw for me was one particular issue where the editorial was about cats and also included a ridiculous feature about how to make a Thai curry - "not spicy, only five ingredients". BBC Good Food Magazine - For A Little Bit Of Inspiration!!

Advantages: Nice photos, well laid out recipes.
Disadvantages: A bit pricey and a few of the recipes are a bit 'posh'

...***BBC Good Food Magazine*** I recently subscribed to this magazine (needing a bit of inspiration!) under a 3 for £1 taster offer, which I thought was a good deal. ***What's it like?*** This is a monthly magazine which has a cover price of £3.20 and it is printed on good quality paper, with a glossy front cover and the latest issue (June) has 146 pages. There is also an accompanying website, www.bbcgoodfood.com. It also had an extra booklet with recipes for barbecues this month too. Review of BBC Good Food Magazine

If you enjoy cooking good food, you'll enjoy this

Advantages: Great recipes, imaginative and interesting mag
Disadvantages: I don't have enough time to try all the recipes!

...BBC Good Food magazine is my favourite read, full of exciting and easy to follow recipes. I subscribe to it and I always think it's a bonus to my day when this magazine pops through the letter box once a month. I don't really read any other magazines, I love this one so much - and as I am a retired Food Technology teacher and have spent most of my working life teaching children how to cook, when I say the recipes are easy to follow I hope you agree that I should know what I'm talking about! Anyone that is a novice cook could easily learn to create impressive dishes by using this magazine. When my daughter and her husband were first together and wanted to have friends round to dinner and impress relatives when they stayed, they decided they needed to expand their repertoire, which at that stage amounted to lasagne, cottage pie...

Review of Good Food

  Food glorious Food!

Advantages: Reasonably priced foodie magazine with lots of useful recipes
Disadvantages: Don't want to throw them away! Might put on weight if not followed wisely!

...Presents should be something the recipient would like and not just what the sender would like to receive! Although in the case of the present I am going to review it was something both parties enjoyed! My daughter and son-in-law gave me a subscription to BBC Good Food. Now she might have left home, but they do frequently come for dinner and so like to have something different to eat. This was a truly wonderful gift, the results of which have been enjoyed by my family and friends. Good Food magazine gives me lots of ideas as well as providing me with a magazine I can browse through ?to my hearts content?. That expression leads me on to say, that you can look after your heart and cook exciting meals as the recipes are all under descriptive headings! I will tell you more about that later though. +PRICE+ Buying it over...

The Great GOOD FOOD Magazine

Advantages: Loads of new recipes each month
Disadvantages: can get quite fat trying them all

...As one of my birthday presents a few years ago,a friend decided to buy me a years subscription to Good food!Magazine Quite ironic really as i Bought her The "New woman" magazine for her birthday a year previoulsy, she is a little younger than me and Single,whereas im married with kids and a little older than her.. But the thought crossed my mind..should I be buying Womans Weekly now and not Elle!!!!!!! Well,I suckily flicked the pages of my new magazine and thought hey this looks nice,might give this a go....A recipe that is! And then i was hooked.... I Look forward each month to the magazine arriving on my door step and try to do atleast one new recipe a months,( I am now in my 3rd year of subscription) The things i like about the magazine is .... Good tasty food

Advantages: Nice, simple, lovely ideas, helping hand in the kitchen.
Disadvantages: None that I could see.

...I received this as a Christmas Present. Unlike other cook books I have this one has a good range of recipes and good directions on how to make them, including some that have step by step pictures. So its probably not a great book if you know quite a bit about cooking, but I have found that even if I'm not following the actual recipe I can refer to it for a helping hand. The recipes them self vary in difficulty and I think its a perfect book for someone who really has no idea about cooking or sticks to the basics and would like to try something new. It doesn't have very fiddly, delicate recipes. I personally found this an advantage. I don't particularly like spending a huge amount of time on cooking. I can see it being a book that I will keep with me forever and adapt the recipes to suit my own tastes etc....

...seemed to be cooking the same old things and got bored. I found recipe books patronising and half the ingredients you can never find and then a while back a friend recommended this magazine so I decided to give it a go and have never looked back. The magazine comes out monthly and is £2.99; you get a nice glossy cover with guess what no stupid celebs on the front! Just a nice plate of food, the magazine is quite heavy and good quality and you always seem to get an extra separate little booklet for free, this month is great food for kids. This has 50 recipes for children including zesty chicken pasta, macaroni cheese with mushrooms & speedy shepherds pie. All these recipes seem to be quick and easy to cook.
