Good intentions richly fulfilled in Puttenham

...of colleagues decided to get out and about and try one of the country pubs outside Guildford. I remembered The Good Intent in Puttenham from some years back, when the work culture was more conducive to lazy pub lunches on a Friday, rather than the must look busy at all costs exploitation that is more the norm these days. THE GOOD INTENT The Good Intent is a pub located just outside Guildford, in the village of Puttenham, down the A3 a little, just south of the Hogs Back. It was first mentioned in the 1861 census, but the building has earlier origins. The original design for the pictorial sign, which hangs outside the premises, was submitted by the artist, Mr G. E. Mackenney in 1976. It portrays Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) praying in his tent for victory for his Roundheads over the Cavalier army of Charles I, and pledging his good intent...

Review of For Goodness Shakes

The Good Experiment

Advantages: A strong sense of style and directorial verve.
Disadvantages: The story lacks originality and the mannered acting won't be to everyone's taste.

Soderbergh shoots his actors as if they were the matinee idols of the time and as a result Clooney and Blacnhett look impossibly glamorous. The only thing that tips you off about the age of the film is the use of sex and swearing, which would never have been allowed by the notoriously censorious Hayes Code. That and the fact the sound quality is so good, so we don't have the constant hiss and pop of an original mono recording. He fosters an old-fashioned style of acting too. Good Times!

Advantages: Honest and funny
Disadvantages: Could do with a little more input in places

...Firstly I'd like to say I?m a big fan of Justin Lee Collins, since me and my partner first watched him on "10 things you didn't know about..." on BRAVO TV as the bad boy from Bristol, partly because he's Bristolian and he also grew up and went to the same school as i did (Although 10 years apart and have never met him, not that I can remember anyway), he is very witty with a dry sense of humour and doesn't seem to have forgotten his roots or forgotten those along the way. But I am going to write my review about his autobiography in an unbiased opinion as possible. Secondly, I'd like to express my excitement at stumbling across his brand new hard back edition for £3.25 in a local charity! Good Times! ...Prior to watching The Long Good Friday, I thought people were actually taking the piss when they said Bob Hoskins played a gangster in one of the most respectable British crime films ever made. Is Jennifer a Good Girl?

There is alot of Good in this Album

Advantages: The groups debut album and i think there best
Disadvantages: There music has changed from this recently

...This was Embraces debut album, and it was this album and the tracks on it that really propelled this group from Brighouse in West Yorkshire onto the world of Brit Pop. The group consists of 5 members ( although the line -up has changed over the years) and the linch pin for their creativity is the McNamara brothers. They were ably assisted in producing the album with Martin Glover who among other groups of the time, worked very closely with groups such as The verve and the Australian group Crowded House ( who i must admit am a great fan of them as well!). The Album is very influenced by the sound of Crowded House in the very good harmonies produced with the lead singer being Danny McNamara,this moved them on from being an Indie band to one who really brought the slow ballady numbers back to the fore.
