A Fyne place to dine
Advantages: Great atmosphere and food
Disadvantages: If you don't like sea food, not great
...On a recent meal out, we decided to try some place we had never been but had heard good things about. Since we all like all things sea foody, we chose this place.
Situated in Gosforth, a taxi ride away from the centre of Newcastle, it seemed that after the meal we could either drink in Gosforth or have a little foray into the centre of the city.
~~The Restaurant~~
The restaurant is inside a renovated church, so once we went inside the gates, and into the restaurant, we were very pleasantly surprised byt the place. set on two levels, the restaurant is light and airy with wooden floors and tables set out with plenty of space between them- no banging into people. The tables themselves are quite functional and come without lots of adornment- no table cloths but obviously napkins ready for the wiping away of sea food from hands...

A perfect, quiet weekend away
Advantages: Excellent location, service and facilities
Disadvantages: Quite expensive; hardly a thrill-seeker's paradise
...Set as it is in acres of woodland, adjacent to Newcastle Racecourse and about 4 miles north of Newcastle city centre, the Marriott Gosforth Park's location is unrivalled for space and sheer greenery. Literally 30 seconds' drive from the A1, it is nevertheless so far removed from hustle and bustle that you could be in the middle of the Yorkshire dales.
The building itself is some way short of spectacular, viewed externally. It is grey brick, very angular, functional and utterly uninspiring - if you ignore the surroundings, it looks like a well-kept housing scheme. Not that great then, really. Built during the mid 60s - hardly a purple patch for British architecture as Newcastle City Council have recently realised, looking on in dismay as the cost of demolishing the bulk of the abysmal John Dobson Street skyrockets. T. Dan Smith...

Shopping is a chore at Asda
Advantages: Cheap and a wider range of products than some other stores
Disadvantages: Often out of stock late at night
...I have two Asda stores nearby. The Gosforth store has a better layout but the Benton store is more convenient. The Benton store has been refurbished which means it's difficult to find some products and the shop has shorter opening hours for the time being. Last time I visited there was also a problem with the tills. I got charged twice for some items and I was undercharged for others. The problems were rectified but it did waste a bit of my time.
Since the shop has been refurbished, products are in inconvenient places, there are aisles of electrical goods which have taken away a lot of the space meant for groceries. I heard a lot of customers complaining and my friends and family don't like the shop anymore either.
The cafe has been replaced by a McDonald's restaurant. I used to enjoy a Ploughman's Lunch in Asda but now I...

Always Happy To Help... In A Perfect World...

Disadvantages: Where to start? Well how's abouts you read the op
...?? Yes, it is. And some people on this website could do with being told that.
ASDA?
----------------
Now, I?ve been to a few ASDA?s in my time. And I?ve never been satisfied. I?ve never walked out with a stupid grin, slapping my backside. This isn?t about ASDA on the whole, so apologies. I wish I could do that. But the ASDA I look at iss the one I know best ? and the other Asda?s I?ve been to have been similar, not in appearance but in general attitude.
I am aware that are quite a few modern ASDA?s around, but the ASDA I use, unfortunately frequently, was built in the ?80s, and hasn?t changed much since then.
It is ASDA Gosforth, in Newcastle. It sits conveniently close to my school, and probably wouldn?t be in business without us. So naturally you?d think they would be grateful. No ? in fact they treat us like ****, can?t wait to get...

The Unreadable regarding the Unspeakable
Advantages: It's not too long a read
Disadvantages: You've got better things to do
...Penguin Fig Tree, 2006, currently £3.99 on Amazon for the paperback, £7.79 for the hardback. Save your money towards cashmere socks.
WHY DID I BUY THIS?
Devilment, well, I'd read Julian Fellowes's 'Snobs', seen his 'Gosforth Park', and was pleasantly surprised by their covert socialist manifesto, presumably unintended. I thought this might be an upmarket chick-lit version of the same. Wrong. Readers will fall asleep rather than march upon Parliament. Also, I used to live around the wrong end of the Portobello Road, have rubbed up against some from the right end, so was curious.
This was not so much a review, more a cry for help, so thank you for reading....

Updated Angel Of The North
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: he will probably retire soon
...Here I am going to tell you a little more about Alan Shearer the English Football Legend, and my Angel Of The North.
Alan was born on August 13th in 1970, raised on the Gosforth council estate in Newcastle.
When he was a young lad his nickname was ?Smokey? this was because he had a fondness for Smokey Bacon Crisps. All of his life he supported Newcastle United Football Club, and used to stand outside the ground on match days hoping to get a glimpse of his idol Kevin Keegan.
At the tender age of 12 Alan was captain of his school football team. He had trials for Newcastle United, although at this time he played in goal and Newcastle failed to recognize his goal scoring capabilities.
Shearer left Newcastle at the age of 15 and went down to Southampton to play in their youth team. At the age of 18 Alan Shearer made his debut...

Armstrongs Gift to The City!
Advantages: Peaceful, Beautiful, Fun for Children!
Disadvantages: Limited Parking, Busy in the height of summer!
...Jesmond Dene is located within the City of Newcastle upon Tyne and is a true asset to the local community.I love visiting 'The Dene' and spend many a lazy summer afternoon here.
*What Is Jesmond Dene?*
Jesmond Dene is a narrow wooded valley stretching over 3km following the river Ouseburn between South Gosforth and Jesmond Vale. The 'Dene' provides an important wildlife corridor right into the centre of Newcastle with a mixture of exotic and native trees. Animals and birds are abundant with king fishers and red squirrels having been sited.
*Jesmond Dene History*
In 1835 William Armstrong had Jesmond Dene built and, as his wealth increased, he acquired areas of the adjacent valley. By 1862 Armstrong has most of the present Jesmond Dene and at this time he built the Banqueting Hall (now a controlled ruin) to cater...

The Best Pasties In Town!
Advantages: Excellent Pasties
Disadvantages: Queues Can Be Quite Long At Busy Times
...Greggs the Bakers seem to be taking over in Sheffield where I live and there are now five different branches within the City Centre, yet judging by the queues outside they certainly seem to be far from reaching saturation point.
I find myself visiting these shops on almost a weekly basis and I would put their success down to two main factors. These being: 1) Their very competitive prices and 2) The fact that Greggs Pasties simply are the best Pasties in town.
The Background
John Gregg founded Greggs as a small family Bakery business in Tyneside during the 1930's. Growth of the company remained steady for the next 30 years and they slowly spread from their original shop in Gosforth into the rest of the North-East of England.
Following the death of John Gregg in 1964 the business passed into the hands of his son Ian who quickly...
