A boozy and more weekend in Gothenburg
Advantages: Things to see, Things to do, The women
Disadvantages: Beer not cheap!, Vodka not cheap!, None!
...I guess Gothenburg might not seem like the ideal weekend destination for a trip with the lad's but let me reassure you it would be one to remember. Now I have to be honest here, as I am a bit of a Jackal and Hyde character when it comes to weekend trips away. Yep I like to have more than a few drinks but I also like to have a good look around at what attractions my resident city has. Anyway let me first run you through how you can get to this fine city. First off you can go by ferry from Newcastle or you can fly. We did the latter. My advice is try and get the cheapest flight possible and then just have a go at knocking some money off at Priceline (www.priceline.co.uk) - it worked for us. Anyway what to see and do and drink. We arrived around tea on the Friday night and headed to our hotel where we picked up our Gothenburg Card's (see...

Välkommen till Göteborg!
Advantages: beautiful town, plenty to do, easily reachable,
Disadvantages: can be cold in winter
...I am currently living in Sweden and one of my favourite places to visit is Gothenburg, or to give it its Swedish name 'Göteborg' (pronounced Yur-te-boy). Gothenburg is a compact town with less than a million inhabitants, but it still has plenty to keep you occupied...
**History**
Gothenburg was designed by the Dutch in 1621 and bears more than a passing resemblance to Amsterdam, with pretty tree lined avenues running alongside the many canals. Gothenburg made its name during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as an industrial and trading centre, and the British, Dutch and German traders who settled in Gothenburg left a rich architectural and cultural legacy. The Orient also has a strong influence over Gothenburg, due to the strong trading links between Sweden and the Far East, and many Oriental design features can be spotted...

Interesting and friendly
Advantages: smallish, friendly and nice
Disadvantages: I have noticed a rise in violent crime
...Gothenburg has been voted the friendliest town in Sweden several times and this is no mistake. Even though it is the second-largest city in Sweden, it feels more like a small town. It has a great amusement park, Liseberg, which has lots of rides as well as a few quiet green spots. Since Gothenburg is on the coast, there are several good beaches (there are tramlinks to some) and there are many islands that ferries go to. However, one must check where one is allowed to go, as some are in military areas where no foreigners are allowed to go.
Gothenburg is good for shopping and prices are reasonable. There is a shopping centre close to the train station on Norra Hamngatan and on Avenyn there are many shops as well as a few shopping centres. Apart from these places there are lots of shops scattered all around the town centre. Gothenburg...

Sweden! a lttle taste of Paradise!
Advantages: Clean, clean, clean!!! friendly locals, good transport, beautiful atmosphere-natural and cultural
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I don't know, but I've always had a great desire to go to Sweden. Scandanavia has always been so appealing...so different and interesting! And my wish came true back in April when i finally got on the plane with 3 of my friends, heading for Sweden!
It was cold leaving London...rainy and completely miserable! And leaving to go to a famously known cold country....we expected bitterly cold weather. So we packed loads of winter clothes, only to find that when we got there, it was about 25 degrees...such beautiful warm weather, and that's how it stayed pretty much for the 4 days we were there for.
When we landed, we'd already fallen in love with Sweden even though it was the first time any of us had ever been there. There was forest everywhere and no carrier bags flyinf about or anything!
Sweden is probably one of the cleanest...

Southern Sweden Adventure
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: a lot of rain
...My boyfriend and I currently live in Sweden (see my review 'Living in Sweden' if you want to know why!) and for 7 days this summer we decided to head off on an adventure driving and camping along the south coast of Sweden. I have a trusty Rough Guide book of Sweden which has been like a bible whilst living here, as I am constantly referring to it. Before we left for our trip I had a read through to check which places we should visit along the way, but other than that we had no idea of where we would be going and what we would see?.
So come and join us on our 'Southern Sweden Adventure 2005' as we seemed to keep calling it for some reason!! There are photos and a map below too.
**Day 1**
We were supposed to set off early but after we had hauled all of our bags of camping gear, boxes of food, clothes, deckchairs, BBQ etc down...

Wi not trei a holiday in Sweden this yer?
Advantages: Lots of lovely museums, pretty trees, beautiful islands and buildings
Disadvantages: Expense of food and alcohol
...I have just returned from a week-long holiday in Stockholm (which provided me with a lovely excuse to ignore my University reading list for a while) and will now give you the chance to share and enjoy?
I visited Stockholm with my mum. We didn?t know much about Sweden to start with, or have many opportunities to look stuff up before going, but had a variety of reasons for wanting to go. I, being about to start a Classics degree, wanted to go somewhere I was unlikely to encounter Roman ruins. Neither my mum nor I wanted to go somewhere particularly hot, and neither of us had been to Scandinavia for a while, and thought it might be fun. I had also read good things in ?The Sword? (yes, I read a magazine that?s been Have I Got News For You?s guest publication, and I?m not ashamed of it) about an exhibition of fencing swords from mediaeval...

I love you Sweden
Advantages: Beautiful, inexpensive to get there via Plane (£159 return for me from Manchester)
Disadvantages: Expensive once you get there, slightly offset by strength of the pound though
...So what did I think of Sweden
*****************************
In a word, beautiful.
In many words I will describe further :-)
The most noticable thing for me was just how nice everything was. The naturally beautiful surroundings and beautiful fields as far as the I can see were truly a sight to behold.
The startling lack of vandalism also took my attention. In Chester where I live and I suspect the majority of Britain (99%) Vandalism is a major problem. In Sweden where I visited Lund, Malmo and some other places I only seen a few bits of vandalism. Even that was not major. Graffiti was rare as was dropped litter, I was very impressed by their cleanliness that is for certain.
Crime also seemed very low, no gangs of unruly teenagers were to be found either. I felt very safe walking through the streets.

All about Sweden
Advantages: Beautiful country, beautiful women!
Disadvantages: The beer is too expensive!
...I go to Sweden every other month as my girlfriend lives there. I have been there about 10 times now. Sweden is a lovely country to visit, I can certainly recommend it. You'll find Sweden is cold in the winter, especially if you visit the East, or the North, however it has good summers, probably better than we have in the UK. My knowledge of Sweden does not yet extend to the North.
Most Swedes can speak English, so you don't need to worry about not being able to communicate with the locals! There is some lovely countryside in Sweden as well as several large and exciting cities. In the country you're free to walk or camp on public land, more or less wherever you like. The country has many lakes, which make popular spots for swimming in the summer, as well as some rocky landscapes and forests not too dissimilar to UK ones in terms...

England 1-1 Sweden
Advantages: Well, at least we didn't lose like France
Disadvantages: But we must play better to qualify
...After months of qualifying, friendlies, build up and Ciao opinions, England’s World Cup 2002 campaign finally kicked off this morning (2nd June) against Sweden. Thankfully 10:30 not too early a start, so it was time to get the beers in and gather round a telly...
Remarkably, England haven’t beaten Sweden since 1968, and never at all in a competitive match. The Swedes aren’t the strongest of squads, despite some key players – most notably Henrik Larsson (Celtic), Freddie Ljungberg (Arsenal) and Magnus Hedman (Coventry). Missing their captain and defensive lynchpin Patrik Andersson only made matters worse.
Of course, England had injury worries of their own. Both Beckham and Dyer were able to play a part, but neither completed the 90 minutes and the likes of Steven Gerrard, Danny Murphy, Gary Neville...

Solid if derivative Gothenburg thrash
Advantages: Some good riffs, good vocals
Disadvantages: Fairly derivative and unoriginal
...Released in 2002, Corporation 187's 'Perfection in Pain' is a mixture of melodic death metal in the gothenburg vein and thrash, with the ten songs on offer all filled with angular, ascerbic riffs, chuggy, stop-start grooves and lamenting guitar solos, that remind of fellow swedes At The Gates, ('Slaugher of the Soul' era).
The vocalist also does a fairly good job of impersonating At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg, spewing forth some nasty abrasive, rasping screams over the galloping, despondent thrash riffs. The production is pretty good but perhaps a little tinny, and although the album is fairly well written and enjoyable there is a nagging feeling throughout that its all been done better elsewhere. It would be reasonable to say that the whole thing sounds like Slaugher of the Soul-lite, but given that that 'Slaughter...' was...
