My work as a field service engineer means that I spend a lot of time in the car and sometimes this was exrended unecessarily when I got lost in strange towns. The other disadvantage was that it could take a couple of minutes to locate enough satellites for a good position fix. I noticed that the unit had a socket on the back for an external entenna, to I took to the web to find one. Full price these antennae are about £40, but a quick search of ebay found me one for £14.95. It arrived and I plugged it in. The cable is long enough for the antenna to sit at the back of the car (a Peugeot estate) in the middle of the roof, just above the tailgate. The Garmin Gps 72 is a very dependable unit i use another brand on my boat while working and i have the gp 72 beside it and have found it to be a better unit allround, so i hear you all say, well this is why i mentioned my other unit, the other ones costs nearly £700 and is a fixed unit, with a smaller display. My gp 72 cost me £130 and is handheld and portable, also with the correct lead available from Garmin you can download and update data from your computer or laptop. Excellent GPS package at great price

...When I decided too buy this product, I wasn't specifically looking for a handheld computer, I was after a decent (but inexpensive) GPS satellite navigation system; and the Acer n35 is not only the cheapest GPS-equipped handheld, it's actually cheaper than most dedicated sat-nav systems, so the fact that this device functions as a computer with numerous other facilities is a pure bonus! You can easily pay £400 for a dedicated portable sat-nav system like the Tom Tom Go, and similar amounts for sat-nav equipped handhelds, but the Acer can be had for as little as £240 brand new with full guarantee. You see already the main economic advantage, especially when you compare it to the four-figure sums that car manufacturers charge for built-in sat-nav systems.... The Acer n35 is basically the n30 without BlueTooth capability...

All the now normall features for a standard GPS package are included such as Voice Prompted Directions so you can be told exsacly what to do and other features such as favorite settings etc. This package seems to me as if it was designed to replace the need for a GPS however as i will come to later it does not seem to fill all recuirements that it should. In my opinion this package is fairly good for someone looking to travel europe and not wanting to spend mega bucks on a new gps, But for everyone else this product falls short. DID I LIKE IT? ...Having two seperate office locations, my company got fed up of having to burn CD's to transfer large amounts of data from one place to another. This worked out OK for a while, but with a CD only being able to store up to 700MB, we were spending quite a lot of time burning the disks, so an external HDD was in order. We had used external SCSI disks in the past, but there were a few disadvantages involved, namely having to physically shut the computer down to remove the device and then having to shut down the second machine to attach the disk at the second place.
