TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module

...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes. The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong. It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! Terrible experiences with this Sat Nav

Disadvantages: loss of signal, lack of POIs, marks many roads unknown

...I recently tried to use this Sat Nav system whilst on holiday in the Algarve, Portugal. NOT ONCE did it find us where we wanted to go. Problems we had: 1. Most roads, even the main road between PT and spain where marked as unknown. 2. often drove us to the middle of a construction site and said there was a beach there. 3. continuously fell off the windscreen 4. Sometimes lost satellite signal at the most critical time for up to 10 minutes. However, now realizing its low price it is probably understandable. Maybe in the UK, this system works better but it is certainly a TERRIBLE system to use in Iberia. There were a few good things to point out: 1. Easy to set up 2. Easy to use. It is not your average sat nav system as it's a very high-tech device but very easy to use.
