Navman ST raight through

Advantages: Gets you there, is upgradable
Disadvantages: Downloading can sometimes be slow

...Having recently purchased my Navman PiN 570 and having used it for a few months I discovered that some streets were missing from the mapping software. A quick visit to Navman's website soon remedied this problem. I simply followed the easy instructions to update my Navman ST software to the 2005 version. After a few clicks and a few minutes the software was installed on my PC. After running for the first time I was asked to complete some simple questions and to connect my Navman PiN to the PC. Once this had been accomplished it was just a case of re-entering my original software serial number to verify my details which I had previously registered with Navman. Are we there yet? Navman iCN520

Disadvantages: 4-digit Postcodes and POI alerts are just not good enough

...more detailed than provided by the Tom Tom and your current location is quoted as both a street number and name which is quite impressive but for its other shortcomings. I bought the Navman iCN 520 at a cost of £175 when they were new which compared very favourably with the £300-odd for a Tom Tom 5. Currently (21 February, 2009), you can pick one up for around £60 on eBay.co.uk or even less if you are lucky. Then my advice is to program it as a Tom Tom 5. Although you might be able to just buy a Tom Tom just as cheap now too. There are two extras that you might consider an extension aerial this may make it quicker to initially pick up the GPS satellites when you first turn it on but I have had no problems without one ? even with a windscreen with integral heating wires. The other and in my opinion equally redundant is the remote control...

Error 4410 - Not Found?

...The NavMan 4410 GPS kit is effectively two discrete things. Hardware and Software. For the sake of your very own eyes (and sanity) , dear reader, I have split my review into two to cater for this. This one covers the hardware, the neato BlueTooth GPS receiver and it's associated gubbins. The software is covered elsewhere (in the SmartST Pro Europe sub-heading). But be warned, it's a biggie. The NavMan GPS receiver is a fine piece of kit. Slightly bulkier than a mobile phone and made of a reasonably impact-resistant plastic, it has a tacky (as in sticky, not gaudily coloured) rubberised base to stop it sliding around and a single button on the top with which you switch it on/off. Able to run from 3 AAA batteries for an amazing 30 hours (under optimum conditions), it also comes with a Cigar lighter adapter for a more reliable power...

  A to B the Easy Way - the Navman iCN 520

Advantages: Small, portable, reasonable price
Disadvantages: 5 character post code search; windscreen reflection

...the preferred one using the button on the left of the display. The map can be displayed in a number of ways - the 3D move map is nice and varies in scale depending on your speed. Smaller when you are slow and backing out to a broader view when travelling fast. An excellent feature. Navman recommend letting the unit establish a GPS fix before starting off your journey. Typically this takes 2 minutes. On the move it takes 5 minutes. It can calculate a route before the GPS fix but cannot direct you. I recommend waiting for the fix - it also has the benefit of letting the car engine oil get towards operating temperature which is good for it. Warning - I had one journey where it simply could not get a GPS fix. I set off before a GPS fix was established and it never caught up. On returning home I had to reset the unit to get it to work again. Only...

Navman 720 needs to get lost

Advantages: camera is a great idea, nice crisp display, good easy access buttons
Disadvantages: poor battery life, freezes regularly, bad customer service

...I looked around at anywhere likely to sell GPS systems and decided that I liked the features and look of the Navman best. Also, several sales people advised me against buying th Navman because the previous models were not the most reliable. But, I knew best, and so I bought it. Or rather, my wife bought it for me as it was a birthday present. It was a problem from day 1. The display (the hi-def display was the main reason I bought it) is incredibly clear and seems the largest of current GPS systems. It has a great set of buttons which at a single press will show you nearest car parks or nearest petrol stations which many other manufacturers should copy! The camera feature where by you take a photograph with the built in camera and it will automatically save the location is incredibly useful. You see a nice pub as your are passing...

Advantages: Too many to list. Excellent value, efficient and easy to use
Disadvantages: It has a car charger, not an ac charger. Is that too bad?

Well designed GPS with a range of features

...I was given this satellite navigation system for Christmas so I don't know what it cost. It is really easy and intuitive to use and works really well. The sat nav unit is quite small and subtle looking. It slots into a stand that attaches to the windscreen using a suction pad. You can put it in the centre of the windscreen or in the right hand corner. The stand attaches to the windscreen easily but is a bit fiddly to remove. It is powered via a lead that attaches to your car's cigarette lighter for charging. This charges it, so you don't have to use the lead all the time. The Navman has a range of useful features including a choice of voices and languages, pre-programmed UK maps, ability to store your favourite destinations and your home, and various options such as avoiding motorways or toll roads, and shortest or quickest...

NAVMAN My cheap reliable little helper

Advantages: Cheap, portable, back on track function, nearest parking and petrol buttons
Disadvantages: some of the mapping dater is a little small touch screen buttons

...After getting my last sat nav nicked I haven't been keen on getting another system, I finally made a decision to go out and get a replacement one, and the NAVMAN F20 seemed good value for money. Getting the device into the car up and running is really very easy really, simply attach the simple suction cup holder to a suitable place on the windscreen and plug in the cigarette lighter. Answer a few simple questions about the type of roads you like, etc. the navman is up and running. I didn't read the instructions, as it looked quite straightforward The only real problem I had was getting a fix on the GPS as you need to fix on to 4 satellites to get a lock on to your location The system is a little slow after entering in the information, so it's best to wait till the screen responses, otherwise it gets a little upset...
