...Ok it depends how much you want to spend. It really is as simple as that. If you've got the money to spend then you may be better off with one of the newer gps units (snooper s4/road angel/snooper s6/etc but don't forget they need monthly or yearly charges). This is a one off payment available for about £180 off the shelf in some shops. They are so easy to fit and use. All you do is plug it into the cigar lighter then either use the supplied window or dash fix and away you go. Now the way the units work is on radar scatter - so if your following a car that goes through a gatso (or other radar emmitting camera) it will cause the radar single to "bounce off" and that is what you pick up. Low Bridge, no problem, this is the best truck sat nav

Advantages: Clear instructions, many extra features, avoids all trucking hazards.
Disadvantages: Almost too large, expensive to purchase

...Problem - My husband is a trucker and travels all over the country doing different routes virtually every day, He uses a Tom Tom GO as a basic Sat-nav which is great, but does not take into consideration any of the extra hazards that LGV drivers encounters daily. He therefore was looking for the most reliable sat nav designed for truckers, and settled on this one. At around £450 it certainly isn't an easy decision to make to purchase one, and seeing as they are only distributed by the makers, you won't find it much cheaper than that either. The S7000 is the 'big brother' of the S2000, it has identical Sat-nav software, but on a much larger screen and the unit also has another couple of brilliant extras, which certainly make life on the road a bit nicer. Advantages: Warns you when Gatso Cameras are nearby
Disadvantages: Can be quite loud, Petrol Station camera's set it off.

.... The Snooper will also detect Hand Held speed traps and this can be quite useful to. The most annoying thing I have found with this particular model is when you approach a petrol Station the alarm on the Snooper will sound. This is because the cameras on the garage forecourt have infrared detectors on them for night use and so will make the Snooper alarm. The same with traffic lights that have infrared sensors on them. It isn't any good if you are being followed by a Police Car with surveillance camera on board. These video cameras do not use infrared and so it will not pick them up. Also, in some counties they are using GPS detection devisies - it won't pick these up either. However, I would still recommend this unit as a cost effective way of avoiding points on your license. ...Having received 2 fixed penalties for speeding in 1 month, at speeds not significantly over the limit, nor at anything like some drivers you see flying past you (but that's a different story!), I decided to buy a radar detector. ...RUBBISH. These are a very expensive con. Not only that, having one lead you into a false sense of security. I have the S6R & S6RLD laser. The unit itself works fine, but you need to keep up with the updates - I could not download them for some time, which was very annoying. The laser picks up traffic lights, mobile phone masts and overhead power lines. BUT NOT Police hand held lasers. I have been stopped twice and the laser did not detect them. So Snooper telling me that they couldn't have been pointing it at me is just wrong!! I sent the whole lot back to them just before Christmas and it has now been returned to me. They say there is nothing wrong with the laser and they have changed the phone number in the unit. When I asked if I would get a refund for the Subs as I had not been able to download anything I was told no...

In a couple of seconds it was displaying "Ready to Navigate" Since then, about 10 days ago, I have covered over 2,000 miles and have not lost reception once, including the wooded section of the A350 just north of Shaftesbury in Dorset, where I always lost signal for about 2 miles. I have noticed some of the plating wearing off the plug, exposing bare plastic. This is because It is not a good idea to leave the SAT NAV in the car when parked, so I have to take the cable out if I park somewhere dodgy, like city centres.
