...Having recently purchased my Navman PiN 570 and having used it for a few months I discovered that some streets were missing from the mapping software. A quick visit to Navman's website soon remedied this problem. I simply followed the easy instructions to update my Navman ST software to the 2005 version. After a few clicks and a few minutes the software was installed on my PC. After running for the first time I was asked to complete some simple questions and to connect my Navman PiN to the PC. Once this had been accomplished it was just a case of re-entering my original software serial number to verify my details which I had previously registered with Navman. ...Sat Nav in your car is a bit like Air Con; if you've haven't got it you probably won't miss it, but once you've had it - you can never do without it. And so it was when I changed jobs, handed back the company car and got my own set of wheels. I didn't want to pay the extortionate amount requested by the dealer for it to be fitted as standard and so opted to make fullest use of my iPaq 3850 and purchased this product from the gps warehouse - £290 inc VAT. The software loaded easily via the activesync connection, which you must have to complete the task and comes with your iPaq anyway, and I loaded the maps onto a 128Mb smart disk I had previously used for storing some music files. I selected the UK maps plus France for the occassional booze crooze and took it for its first test run. The kit slots easily into the windscreen...

SmartST? Give me SesameST!

...roads for police vehicles etc. My trusty SatNav had been trying to make me rejoin the M25 via one of these such access roads. Unfortunately, not only are they for authorised vehicles only, they also have padlocked gates to prevent abuse by desperate victims of SatNav misguidance. So once again, I had to strike off into the countryside until I was far enough away that it would find me an alternative route. That goal achieved, I was back on track and arrived home in slightly less time that it had taken me to get there. The software that has lead me such a merry dance is none other than the wittily titled "SmartST v2" from NavMan. Multifunctional PDA and Sat Nav system

Advantages: A PDA and sat nav system in one

...superior - it is acceptable for my requirements. The Mitac 168 combines a PDA with a sat nav. system. And whilst the PDA is of inferior quality the Sat Nav element of the Mitac is most definitely not. It is on par with stand alone GPS units such as Navman, Tomtom etc. The Mitac has a built in GPS receiver. If any of the readers of this review have ever had to sync an external GPS receiver to a PDA then they will appreciate what an excellent feature this is. I used to have a Toshiba PDA and separate GPS receiver. I never got the two linked up properly and experienced so many problems, including lost signals, no satelites showing etc etc. the list is endless. In turning on the Mitac and pulling out the GPS receiver satelites are found within about 30 seconds - this is just as quick and efficient as my father's Tomtom. The Mitac uses...

Advantages: Lovely maps and Intuitive
Disadvantages: 4-digit Postcodes and POI alerts are just not good enough

This is great if there are roadworks or your local knowledge about roads in your area allows you to plan a better than the SatNav when left to its own devices. The iCN 520 uses the same ?camera food? as my Vivitar 5355 ? SD memory cards up to 4GB but I have a 2GB in mine, which is sufficient for maps of; UK, Ireland, and all of mainland Europe to street-level. Navman 720 needs to get lost

Advantages: camera is a great idea, nice crisp display, good easy access buttons
Disadvantages: poor battery life, freezes regularly, bad customer service

...I looked around at anywhere likely to sell GPS systems and decided that I liked the features and look of the Navman best. Also, several sales people advised me against buying th Navman because the previous models were not the most reliable. But, I knew best, and so I bought it. Or rather, my wife bought it for me as it was a birthday present. It was a problem from day 1. The display (the hi-def display was the main reason I bought it) is incredibly clear and seems the largest of current GPS systems. It has a great set of buttons which at a single press will show you nearest car parks or nearest petrol stations which many other manufacturers should copy! Well designed GPS with a range of features

...I was given this satellite navigation system for Christmas so I don't know what it cost. It is really easy and intuitive to use and works really well. The sat nav unit is quite small and subtle looking. It slots into a stand that attaches to the windscreen using a suction pad. You can put it in the centre of the windscreen or in the right hand corner. The stand attaches to the windscreen easily but is a bit fiddly to remove. It is powered via a lead that attaches to your car's cigarette lighter for charging. This charges it, so you don't have to use the lead all the time. The Navman has a range of useful features including a choice of voices and languages, pre-programmed UK maps, ability to store your favourite destinations and your home, and various options such as avoiding motorways or toll roads, and shortest or quickest...

Error 4410 - Not Found?

...The NavMan 4410 GPS kit is effectively two discrete things. Hardware and Software. For the sake of your very own eyes (and sanity) , dear reader, I have split my review into two to cater for this. This one covers the hardware, the neato BlueTooth GPS receiver and it's associated gubbins. The software is covered elsewhere (in the SmartST Pro Europe sub-heading). But be warned, it's a biggie. The NavMan GPS receiver is a fine piece of kit. Slightly bulkier than a mobile phone and made of a reasonably impact-resistant plastic, it has a tacky (as in sticky, not gaudily coloured) rubberised base to stop it sliding around and a single button on the top with which you switch it on/off. Able to run from 3 AAA batteries for an amazing 30 hours (under optimum conditions), it also comes with a Cigar lighter adapter for a more reliable power...
