Hotel Gran Ducat
Advantages: excellent central location
Disadvantages: views from rooms
...A fine basic city centre hotel, clean and functional.
Helpful reception, restaurant and cleaning staff. Check in was not possible when we arrived at the hotel at noon, nor were we able to get a late check out when leaving.
Excellently located across from one of the many side entrances to El Corte Ingles, five minutes trundle from the Airport Bus Stop in Placa Catalunya.
Our room had a single bed added to make it a tripple, which was rather cramped, but with so much to see we did not spend much time there. The view from our room was into a courtyard and the back of buildings, however some rooms seemed to look onto other rooms across an air tunnel.
Free internet access. A great hotel to flop back to after a long day sightseeing!...

Gran tinerfe my fave hotel!
Advantages: Christmas and new years great there
Disadvantages: The rooms wernt that modern
...I stayed at the 4 star Gran Tinerfe December 2006 for Christmas and New Year. Me my dad and brother had never being away for Christmas, which made us curious on what actually happens in a foreign country at Christmas time in a hotel.
Christmas day we booked a gala meal which was like an 8 course meal
I'm a fussy eater so I didn't really enjoy it as much as everyone else, but my dad loved it, there was duck and all the trimmings and they had alternative meals for vegetarians.
On new years and Christmas I think we got free wine (let me know if I'm wrong) my memories pretty bad, but I must say new years was the best new year of my life! It was planned to perfection.
We had our New Year gala meal and then the living room areas were set up with lots of booze etc and we were all giving party hats and other party treats in this goodie bag...

Gran Casino Royal Hotel
Advantages: Cheap, all inclusive, large bar area
Disadvantages: Noisy, small pool area for size of Hotel
...I have only completed 1 review and that was 6 years ago but as none have been done for this Hotel thought I would have another go, here it is:
I took my partner and our 6 year old son for a cheap holiday during October 2006 half term, after looking at several deals we opted for an all inclusive here mainly because of the cost. Full cost less than £500 for the 3 of us, flights (with Ryan Air), transfers, all meals (buffet style), drinks (alcoholic as well as soft) etc. For those that are thinking all inclusive ties you to the Hotel all I would say is I have done every sort of holiday during the last 10 years and been lucky enough to go away 3 or more times a year from 5* AI to 2* SC, I'll try anything once. The best thing to do is compare, AI only ties you if you spend all your money on the holiday in advance. You are permitted to...

Barcelo, Santiago
Advantages: Fantastic hotel with something for everyone
Disadvantages: Not near a sandy beach
...I have been to this hotel twice and will return this year as my family have fallen in love with it.
The hotel is lovely, very clean and the rooms are very spacious, the junior suite are ideal for a family of 4, they are cleaned every day to a very high standard.
We were on an all inclusive package and the food was fantastic. I think even the fussiest of eaters would not complain.
The resturant is a buffet style and self service. Breakfast for instance has fruit , yoghurt, cereal, bread, cooked food, cold meats, eggs, buscuits and cakes.
Lunch and dinner are similar but a bit more at dinner, there are salads, soups, different fish, different meats, potatoes, fries, lots of different pasta and sauces, rice, a cold buffett with a variety a choice of a meal like paella or lasange for eg, cheese, biscults, pate and lots...

Not too Chile for me
Advantages: Excellent hotel, convenient location and fabulous food
Disadvantages: probably price but it was part of a package so not sure
...Sheraton hotel and San Cristobel Tower Covention Centre - Santiago
The hotel is a modern hotel just in front or behind San Cristobel Hill. It overlooks the river and we were lucky enough to have a room at the front of the hotel with views across the city with the snow capped Andes in the distance.
The lobby was open and spacious with a large seated bar area in the middle. There were a number of seated areas for waiting or meeting friends with comfortable chairs and settees. The concierge desk would order taxis and organise private tours whilst the main desk offered check in and out as well as a money exchange at quite a reasonable rate. All staff were very helpful, friendly a and efficient.
The bar area was in the middle of the huge lobby area with a low wall around it so that you could see everywhere in the lobby from...

A hotel fit for a Duque?
Advantages: convenient location, clean quiet and comfortable
Disadvantages: single room a touch on the small side, breakfast quite pricey compared with local cafés.
...I stayed in the Gran Hotel Conde Duque for five nights when attending a conference which I had been organising in Madrid last October. As I work for a non-profit organisation my remit was to ensure that my accommodation was not overly expensive - no easy task, as well as being one of the official conference hotels. By booking on Activehotels.com I was able to get a single room for EUR 91 (ca. GBP 63) a night ? coming out at just under EUR 98 (ca GBP 70) a night including the mandatory sales tax. This was substantially cheaper than the ?reduced rate? of EUR 135 (ca. GBP 97) excluding tax being offered for single occupancy of a double room by our conference partners.
It should of course be noted that as with nearly all hotels in Madrid, prices are exclusive of breakfast ? for breakfast you will pay approx EUR12 (ca. GBP 8) extra. I did...

Skiing/Snowboarding from Santiago.
Advantages: different unspoiled powder relaxed
Disadvantages: mid-priced
...About 2 hours east of Santiago are the ski resorts of La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado. All 3 resorts are connected (you can ski between them if you have the right pass) and there are plenty of runs and some world-class off-piste. You can make the trip up and down from Santiago in a day but its worth taking two (at least) if you can ski or snowboard. As well as the resorts, there is a small town called Farrellones located next to the resort of El Colorado. You can walk from Farrellones to the lowest lift at el colorado, from where the lift attendants will let you on if you promise to buy a lift pass when you get off - at the resort proper. Be warned though - it's a button lift.
You can hire ski and snowboard equipment at any of the resorts, but neither equipment hire nor lift passes come cheap. Ski-ing is very much for the elite...

Beatiful hotel in Soller, Mallorca
Advantages: Beautiful hotel, beautiful location
Disadvantages: Let down by food
...I stayed at this great hotel about a year ago. It also claims to be a spa hotel, although we didnt tryany of the treatments available. So unfortunately I cant comment on the 'spa' part!
Overview
-------------
This beautiful hotel is in Soller. It is housed within a beautiful old building, which according to the owners has been a house and another, run down, hotel before that.
Location
-----------
The hotel is near to the main square in Soller, which is about half an hour from Palma, up in the hills away from all th etacky tourist resorts. Its set back from a quiet(ish) street, but is close enough to the main restaurants etc in the town
Room
---------
There are about 35 rooms in total. Our room was great, although a tad small. It was very modern, with crisp white sheets and great smart, neutral decor. We had a lovely...

parque santiago 111
Advantages: very good location, excellent accommodation
Disadvantages: none
...Travelled here on 21st July 2006 during the school holidays with my husband and 2 children aged 11 and 14. We arrived late at night. We were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment in the 'Gran Canaria' area. The apartment was very spacious with a proper kitchen with oven and hob and 2 fridges. The balcony was to die for!! It was bigger than my living room with sunbeds and sun canopies that you could wind in and out over the area. The room had satellite tv with sky news and uktv gold and some itv channels. There was no air conditioning so it was a bit warm at night but there was a ceiling fan in the living room . The maids came every day for the 2 weeks we were there and changed the beds twice a week. The towels were changed more or less every day if they were dirty.
The pool was fantastic and kept clean, it was so big that even when there...

The Good, the Bad and the downright Awful
Advantages: Very efficient, clean city with good seafood
Disadvantages: Concha Y Toro vineyard trip
...not many high rise buildings as Santiago suffers from frequent earth quakes. Because of the fact that buildings need to be built to resist earth quakes it means that building costs are high too. Santiago is spreading outwards as it cannot go upwards so it is geographically quite age city for its 6 million population.
San Cristobel Hill which was just behind our hotel has both, a cable car and a funicular railway as well as a road up to the top. From the top you get an excellent view of the city with the Andes mountains as a backdrop. At the top there is a large white stone statue called the Sanctuario Immaculada Concepcion which I presume is the Virgin Mary, it is surrounded by beautiful flower gardens and the scent pervading the air is that of jasmine which is lovely. There a few small souvenir shops with postcards, lapis lazuli...
