Granada

Advantages: Beautiful city, good transport links.
Disadvantages: Not much English spoken by locals

...To get to Granada in Andalucia, the cheapest thing to do is score a cheap flight off the internet to traditional loud-mouthed Brit destination, Malaga ;-) and then hop on a cheap as cheap can be coach down to Granada for just eight euros. To do this, simply get on the number 19 bus at Malaga airport, which will take you to the bus station, then ask at the ticket office for Granada. Very easy. Once in Granada, a number of options are open to you. Sta travel (evil swines) will tell you there are no hostels in Granada, and will sell you one for Madrid (thanks guys). Run a mile, and when you get to Granada, just hop in a taxi and say "una hostal, por favor". They will cost around fifteen euros per night and are sufficient for your needs. You'll need to eat once there, so the first thing I recommend is wandering over to the plaza...

Granada on a Budget

Advantages: Picturesque and Cheap
Disadvantages: Road Works

...Granada ! where is that I hear you ask. Well go onto Ryan Air website and now book a return ticket direct !. One of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. This huge compound of buildings - including the Generalife - summer palace, with its fountains and gardens - stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada. The Sacromonte hill, used to be home to a large Gypsy community and their influence can still be seen in all areas of Granada. Be careful of pick pockets. The shops certainly have the feel of gypsy influence. We travelled via Ryan Air that now do flights direct to this hidden wonder, the flights were £74 each and the flying...

A TRYP in Granada

Advantages: Good location, lovely grounds
Disadvantages: Rooms are dreary, poor AC, depressing

...If you've been following my reviews concerning our trip to Andalucia, you'll know that our next port-of-call was Granada. Come to think of it, even if you haven't been reading them you'll know that now anyway...I just told you. Our main reason for visiting Granada was to see the Alhambra which, although it seems to be near the centre of the city, is much more accessible from the ring roads. We therefore decided on a hotel which was close to the main access routes, yet in a peaceful location. So with that in mind, I booked the TRYP ALCANO (part of the Sol Melia group), just 5km from the bustling heart of this ancient city, but conveniently located on a highway close to the ring road. Just to get our bearings straight, the hotel is 5-6 km from the Alhambra, 40 km from the Sierra Nevada ski slopes and 60 km from the beaches...

Granada

Advantages: Historical buildings, scenery and atmosphere
Disadvantages: Crowds

...Most visitors to Granada arrive and depart on the same day, specifically to see the Alhambra. As a consequence the convergence of coaches and tour groups causes congestion, queues, and dissatisfaction when people cannot obtain tickets. Stunning though it is, the Alhambra does lose some of its magic engulfed in teeming crowds. There is more to Granada than the Alhambra, however, and we travelled by car from our coastal holiday base to spend two days in the city. We stayed at the Hotel Alhambra Palace, which is set in the cliff face only a few minutes walk downhill from the Alhambra car park and entrance. Our room on the city side of the hotel had a balcony with spectacular views of the city and mountains. By booking our Alhambra tickets in the hotel on arrival we were guaranteed entry and a guide for the following morning. We made...

Grand old Granada

Advantages: Comfort and power at a cheap price.
Disadvantages: A bit old fashioned looking

...The Ford Granada was the company’s top of the range vehicle for years. It’s out of production since the early 1990’s, but many clean examples can still be found second hand, and it offers incredible value for money. I owned a 1990 Granada Scorpio for nearly three years. It had a powerful V6 engine, which wasn’t as nippy as some more modern cars, but still had plenty of power, and which was remarkably easy on petrol. I averaged about 35 miles per gallon in normal driving, and it was only when you went above 85mph that this figure dropped under 30 miles per gallon. The top speed was well over 100mph, not that you got much chance to use it. The seats were huge and very comfortable, but you could slide about a bit on the corners if you were shifting it a bit. You had to watch yourself when cornering, as it as...

the perfect hotel for getting around Granada

Advantages: very central
Disadvantages: some rooms without views

...It was our first visit to Spain and we just wanted a quiet relaxing holiday. We chose Granada as we wanted to visit the historical sights. Having looked into many hotels at various costs our main priority was that it had to be very central within walking distance to sights and restaurants. We selected the Melia Granada as there was a promotion going on and we grabbed it at only ?40 per night for a twin room. Our 3 night stay proved that it was the right choice being a city hotel within easy reach of everything, shops, restaurants and sights. It was easy to get to- we were pleasantly surprised to discover how simple it was to get the coach with pre- allocated seats, from Malaga to Granada and then a short taxi ride from the bus station to the hotel. Checking in was simple- we were given a room, unfortunately with no view but...

Granada - my favourite city in Spain

Advantages: beautiful bulidings, great atmosphere...
Disadvantages: none

...I have already written several opinions on my experiences in Spain so far, but the time has come to write about my favourite place here, Granada. For those unfamiliar with Spanish Geography, Granada is in Southern Spain, about 70 miles north-east of the Costa del Sol and very close to Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada. It is an ancient city and was for many years the capital of Moorish Spain - the Moors being an old Musilm people related to modern Arabs. In fact, until the Christian "reconquest" in 1562, Granada was the last bastion of Islam in the West . Nowadays, Granada is the most incredible mixture of ancient and modern, Eastern and Western. The city centre boasts some of the most lovely 18th and 19th century Spanish architechture, alongside a substantial Moorish quarter with its exotic arches and of course...

Give it a chance - Leigh Delamare

Advantages: Convenient, offer a wide range of shops and services, Discount for AA members
Disadvantages: Quite expensive, some facilities not open 24 hour

...of the service they provide, but choice and appearance has improved, and if we don't use them, we could lose them, and I am sure this would serve to increase the number of motorway accidents throughout the country, through tiredness and frustration. if you don't want to pay their prices, take your own food, many have outside eating areas (when we get the weather), and in Granada, don't forget there is a 20% discount for AA members in their restaurants (not Burger King) and for certain items within their main shop. The company has also now established a company called, Office space, providing office meeting rooms at strategic locations throughout the country (from as little as £10p/h, very useful for companys at different ends of the country, for whom time is precious, and a mid-point meeting can prove very useful and financially prudent....

Grand Granada or not?

Advantages: Comfort, reliability, easy to drive, some models efficient
Disadvantages: Can be expensive to repair, lose value quickly

...I had a 1991 2.0i DOHC Granada Ghia Saloon for over 5 years. I only got rid of it last month (October 2003) after the clutch and then the alternator went in quick succession. These cars are usually very reliable and much better than most Fords for ride quality as well as realibility. Compare the performance of this car with an Escort XR3i and there is no contest. There is similar performance despite claims that the Granada is under powered yet the Granada is a lot cheaper to insure. Things to watch include:- Raidiator cooling fans which frequently go. Its a common fault and is a fairly easy but time consuming repair job. Don't go to a Ford dealer for the parts, go to a scrap yard and look for the fans from any car with a CVH Ford engine as these DOHC engines are very rare in scrap yards. If fuel economy drops below about 38...

Granada - a must see city

Advantages: History, Architecture, tradition and proximity to beach and ski resort
Disadvantages: Very hot in summer. Coach party heaven.

...Think Southern Spain and the chances are you think of the Costa del Sol, but move an hour or so inland and you come to one of the wonders of the modern world - The Alhambra. Built by the Moors in the last Moorish stronghold before Christianity took over in Spain, this building dominates the City and rightly so. Standing on a hill overlooking the old town, the Albaicin, is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture in the world. The intricacy of the nooks and crannies of all the rooms just have to be seen to be believed. But there is more to Granada than just the Alhambra. The Albaicin itself is still heavily influenced by the Moorish traditions, and if you've ever been to Morocco you may feel you're back there when you wander through the back streets, and past the tea rooms. Granada is also one of the few places left in Spain where...
