Grande Hotel Do Porto, good location.
Advantages: Those Public Rooms
Disadvantages: Standard Rooms small, but hay that was our choice and your all the same at breakfast
...We have just returned from a Week-end in Porto.
We were looking for a Hotel that had good location and some olde world charm, so this one seemed to tick the boxes.
We booked it thru Octopustravel.com for £165 that being for a Double Room with Buffet Breakfast for three nights (About £27 per person per night B&B).
Getting to the Hotel from the Airport can not be easier. You get the Metro from the Airport, you can not get on the wrong one as that is the start of the line, no changes necessary just stay on unti the BOLHAO stop (approx 25 mins) cost 1 Euro 85 Cents (purchase ticket from Tourist Info Booth in arrival hall, or if braver from the Ticket Machines in the Metro (Do have an English Button) for instructions.
At the Bolhao stop come up into the Street Opposite a large Church With Blue Tiles, turn corner about 90 yards...

Grand Hotel Excelsior
Advantages: Beautiful View
Disadvantages: Apalling food
...As anyone who has read my early reviews knows- I love Italy! I've been going there now for the past ten years with my parents, and for the first time last year I made my own way there with the boyfriend for a nice Italian holiday. The Grand Hotel Excelsior was my residence for numerous weeks holiday, and it certainly not one for the faint hearted! In the Thompson guide book it is described as 'quaint' which to put it politely is rather an understatement. One thing that can be said for it is it is completely oozing with Italian charm.
ARRIVAL/ LOCATION
If you book with Thompson as we did (though other tour operators go to the same location) flights go from Manchester Airport on a Friday morning, taking just over 2 and a half hours to get to Naples International Airport. From Naples the coastal resort of Amalfi is approximately...

The Pestana Porto - my pick of Porto
Advantages: friendly efficient staff, good location
Disadvantages: poorly promoted restaurant
...In September we had a great holiday in North Portugal and I wanted to tell you about my favourite hotel.
We booked into the Pestana Porto for 4 nights and it was a very enjoyable stay. My Aunt had recommended Oporto so after a search on Tripadvisor for hotels there, we booked a room with a river view.
Location
The Pestana Porto is ideally situated for tourists. It looks out onto the river Douro and the riverside cafes. Nearby are old, narrow quaint streets with bars and restaurants. River cruises regularly set off from just below our bedroom window. A walk across the bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia takes you straight into the old part of the town and you can easily walk to many of the famous port houses. The fabulous Palacio da Bolsa is located a short walk away. We walked into town although this is not recommended for all. Parts...

MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas
Advantages: 4/5 star, great price, good gambling and atmosphere
Disadvantages: The Lion enclosure
...good value.
www.mgmgrand.com
The nice thing about most of the hotels in Las Vegas is that the parking is free. We drove there and found our way to the MGM hotel where the car park was clearly signposted. We then made our way to the lobby of the hotel which as extremely impressive. You have to remember than most of the hotels in Vegas are huge and this one is no exception. The main hotel has 5,044 rooms as well as different sections of the hotel that house nicer suites, lofts and villas.
The lobby had more than 20 people on reception so check in was quick and easy. The most impressive thing was the flower displays, all real and hundreds and hundreds of roses.
One thing I do not like about the MGM is that is features a lion enclosure. It is much like an exhibit at the zoo, it has two lions who inhabit it (aparently they live in...

Pestana Grand Hotel - Funchal, Madeira.
Advantages: Good rooms, helpful staff, free bus into town
Disadvantages: Its a bus ride from town.
...We booked a last minute holiday in Madeira in september 2007 and on the advice of our agent decided to go for the Pestana Grand hotel. The hotel was rated as a 5 star by our agent although this site rightly has it as a four-star. We booked on a bed & breakfast basis and with flights and transfers It cost us about £650 each for the week .
On arrival the reception staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. We had been booked into a mountain view room and asked if we could upgrade to a sea view. This was no problem for, I think, an extra £20 per night. This was well worth it as we noticed that the mountain view rooms all overlooked the car park. The view was excellent from our room and we could see people fishing from small boats, the hotel gardens and pools and people walking along the promenade which takes you from the hotel...

The Grand is truly Grand
Advantages: A comfortable hotel and great restaurant
Disadvantages: Quite a walk up the hill or steps if escalator is not on
...I had a very hectic Christmas last year cooking for the family and generally doing far too much eating and drinking, so when it came to New Years Eve I was worn out, and to be quite honest just could not face another knees up to see the New Year in.
My husband came up with the idea of going for a pint at tea time then back home for a night in front of the television. I agreed with that idea and then he piped up that we would have to go to bed early because we were getting up at six in the morning to drive to Scarborough and staying over night in the grand Hotel.
Scarborough is about three and a half hours drive from where we live so we took a steady pace travelling over the moors keeping away from the motorway. It was great no stress and gorgeous scenery. There was quite a lot of snow on the moors but the roads were clear...

THB Hotel Felip - Porto Cristo mallorca
Advantages: Service, cleanliness, ambience, views, value for money
Disadvantages: None but not suitable for young families or clubbers!
...First of all, a word to the warning for anyone who enjoys the Magaluf/Palma Nova style holiday experience - the Hotel Felip and the resort of Porto Cristo are not for you! I say resort but in fact, Porto Cristo is a small coastal town built on the fishing industry and now boasts a very busy marina for private boat owners in addition to the still substantial fishing fleet. The town is on the east coast of Mallorca, about 62 kms (55 minutes) from Palma by car.
Porto Cristo is probably most famous for the popular and stunning Caves of Drach which hosts day trip coach loads from all parts of the island, on a daily basis. The small town centre has a few tourist shops and cafe/restaurants together with local bars but no large clubs and you're very unlikely to spot a lager lout here! To be serious, the ambience of Porto Cristo is suitable...

A Grand Hotel
Advantages: Lots of facilities, clean, spacious rooms
Disadvantages: Just the health staff round the pool
...Grand Sharm
Having decided on a trip to Sharm el Sheikh for the Easter break, the task fell to me to chose a hotel. Because we were going as a family, we wanted something with sufficient activities to keep everyone happy, and it also had to be of a relatively high standard as regards food and cleanliness. Having visited this part of the world on several occasions, I decide on this hotel because I knew it was clean, with lots of facilities, and best of all, children went free.
~~First Impressions~~
After a short transfer of about 20 minutes from the airport, we got the the gates of the hotel, and after the usual showing of ID, we went in. First impressions were good. The lobby was large and impressive with a fountain in the middle of the room, and an impression of marble and airiness. Check in was a simple procedure, and whilst...

De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton
Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!
...be booked over the hotel groups website, by calling a central reservations number, by calling the hotel directly and most likely through your locale travel agents alothough i wouldn't recommend this as it will work out much more expensive that contacting the hotel directly.
I would definatly recommend a visit to this hotel especially for a special occassion, the staff are always friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile, for example several times they've made food for me not on the menu just because i enquired as to whether they did do it or not. Also if you have an american express card you can often get deals on buy one get one night free in de vere hotels, and sometimes a free upgrade (the reason i got junior suites both time!)...

Grand Canal Hotel Dublin
Advantages: Good restraunt, good location
Disadvantages: bathroom fan has no 'off' switch
...First the advice. If you are going to use this hotel (a 3* hotel) the best way to get to it is using the air-coach which goes from Dublin airport every 20 min or so. The stop you want is the 'school house hotel' The grand canal hotel is then just a short walk away. The air coach is far cheaper than taking a taxi (could be as much as ?30 cheaper) and it's quicker.
One of the hotels big advantages (could be seen as a disadvantage by some). It is about a 15 - 20 min walk from the main shoping area of the city, so this means it is fairly quiet at night. However this also means that it is quite a distance from the big tourist attractins such as the Guinnes store house and the Jameson distillery.
The rooms are large, well decorated, double glazed, clean, are all on suite and as you would expect are serviced daily. The only problem...
