The Red lIon - Grasmere
Advantages: Friendly and Comfortable
Disadvantages: In need of some updating
...cosy and a great place rto meet other people. All drinks and meals in the pub can be charged to your hotel bill.
The downsides of the hotel are that there is a car park but if the hotel is busy this can be limited and parking in Grasmere can get expensive. The pool is very nice but the gym is very small with only a bike and a treadmill. The reastaurant could do with some updating but the breakfast was very nice (we only stayed B&B).
Overall, I would reccomend this hotel, it is friendly and comfortable and a good base to explore the lakes....

A Very Tired Hotel
Advantages: Good location, central to village and the Lake District, nice staff
Disadvantages: EXpensive for what it was, poor decor in rooms, bathroom terrible
...My husband and I stayed at this hotel for my birthday June 09. Despite the fact that they advertised the fact that the hotel was being refurbished there was little eveidence of this.
The room was claen and last decorated in about 1985! The bathroom was tatty and the shower din't work very well. . The prices (£130 on weekend and £115 in the week )were extortionate for what we got and my daughter joined us on the weekend for one night in what they laughingly called a club room. This meant an extra bit was tagged onto the room making the bedroom itself dark and cutting off the view. It cost an extra £30 per night and was still tatty. The dinner menu was very expensive (£25) and the food very ordinary but the adjoining pub - the Lamb Inn was very good.
On the positive side the staff were very nice. Poor value for money....

Does exactly what it says on the tin (or at least the website)
Advantages: Comfortable, quiet, friendly, great food, great location for walking/sightseeing
Disadvantages: Not the place for minimalist, hi tech, wild party lovers
...I was attracted to the Bridge House Hotel principally by the location in Grasmere, but also by the clarity of the website. When booking a room for a couple of nights for a short break with friends, we were able to view the hotel and its surroundings, and then look at detailed photos and floor plans for each of the rooms. When we called to book, we were able to specify which of the available rooms we would like. We got a great deal at around £240 per couple for 2 nights DB&B.
Arrival was very smooth, with a parking space available for every room ( a bonus in Grasmere), and a warm welcome. The evening menu was available for review, and we were able to select from an excellent range of starters and main courses, plus individual choices of side orders.
Room was traditionally furnished and very clean and comfortable - but not minimalist hi...

A lovely place to rest after a long day
Advantages: Location, family rooms, friendly staff, food,
Disadvantages: smelly carpets in the corridors, carparking at end of drive
...I fist stayed in the Butterlip How Youth hotel (have to specify which one because there are two in Grasmere) when I was 16. I was impressed then and when I went back there a few weekends ago, I was still impressed. Back in the olden days you had to do "chores" when you stayed in a youth hostel but you don't have to now.
If you're driving (and some people do drive to hostels) on arrival you can drive to the entrance to dump your luggage but you then have to go back down the driveway to park near the gates. This was once someone's grand home built of grey slate and there are very large gardens which are full of animal wildlife and birds- it's just lovely. It's not too far but disabled guests might find it a bit difficult.
Check in is with a friendly warden and you are allocated your room. If you opt for a family room as we did, you...

Shabby - but certainly not chic
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Service was dreadful
...I'd wanted to stay in this hotel for years and was really disappointed when I actually did!
My sister and I, our boyfriends and our parents spent a long weekend at the Wordsworth. It cost an arm and a leg as we booked half board. We really regretted that decision.
At dinner on the first evening, it took ages to get served. The meal consisted of loads of small courses, but they were really odd combinations of foods. My mother had ordered steak - she actually got three ten pence sized pieces of meat in a nondescript sauce. Although we'd booked for 7.30, with the slow service, it was really late by the time we ordered our puddings and all the nice things had gone already. We were quite surprised - the dining room hadn't been particularly full.
Walking around Grasmere next day, we saw a lovely bistro where the food was much more to our...

Thistle redeems itself!
Advantages: Great compensation for bad experience, good food, lovely location
Disadvantages: Expensive, inadequately heated economy rooms, inaccurate booking information.
...My friend and I decided to have a walking weekend in the Lakes in February (mad though it may sound!) and looked online for decent deals. We went for the Thistle Hotel in Grasmere as she had stayed in the Thistle Stratford and found it good, and booked it through a company called High Life Breaks as it seemed marginally cheaper than booking direct. Bizarrely, the Standard Room was cheaper than the Economy room (£71.00 each for 2 nights as opposed to £80) so we booked our twin room and looked forwards to the weekend.
We appeared to have picked one of the chilliest weekends in February to go and drove up through snow, but I had optimistically left behind my winceyette nightie thinking, "It'll be boiling hot, these hotels always are" and bringing a lighter one. I have learned my lesson..!!!
The hotel looks impressive, it was formerly...

The Strand Palace Hotel
Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms
...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

Hotel International
Advantages: Location, breakfasts
Disadvantages: Poor rooms
...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Booking.com helps hotels cheat customers.
Advantages: extensive database of hotels, many quite inexpensive
Disadvantages: if a hotel cheats you, they will apologize, but do nothing.
...Booking.com: Colluding with Corrupt Hotel Owners to Cheat Customers?
I am sorry to have to write this review, but I have tried for months to get Booking.com to address my complaint. I have reserved rooms using this service in the past, and have been very pleased. This, however, came to an end this summer.
I booked a room at the Travel Inn in Reykjavik, only to find, upon arrival, that my wife, son, and myself were escorted to a car with no explanation. Eventually the clerk told us that we would be driven to the "other" location. The Travel Inn has, it seems, bought space in the Pavi Guesthouse (over a mile away). I would have refused on principle, but I know the situation in Reykjavik is such that I might have had no options. We were driven there, the driver stopped along the way to encourage me to withdraw money from...

sachas hotel
Advantages: good price,great location
Disadvantages: no window
...****Sachas hotel- Manchester****
I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre.
**Location/Getting there**
This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that bad .You can also get a tram from Piccadily gardens and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car.
**Reception/staff**
Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same...
