The Real Faliraki

Advantages: A great experience with great sites and cheap
Disadvantages: sometimes drunken groups

...Sometimes I get wound up when I know people are dissing Faliraki. So here's a Non-Biased Opinion of mine. Faliraki is like any other tourist destination: Its popular, Its got clubs, restaurants many hotels and lots of british people. Being Rape Captial made my heart sink. Because its not Falirakis fault? Young people are binge drinking in the famous Bar Street and then walking home alone. Wherever you are in the world look after youself. The same would probably happen if i were to be drunk in turkey! Location: Located Very close to Rhodes Town which has everything From Shops such a 3 Floored 'Zara' To many other local fashion shops. Faliraki itself is on the beach and is a very popular location, Bus services are great which means you can catch a bus to Rhodes town and it takes you 10 minutes. Faliraki's bad reputation...

Advantages: Beautiful weather, Cheap bus service, Planned trips
Disadvantages: Potentially dangerous, Not entirely child-friendly atmosphere

...Before heading off to Rhodes with 8 friends, nearly everyone I told about the trip put on a warning face. Once they'd heard we would be spending a week in the "rape capital of Europe", everyone had their own piece of advice to give- always stay in groups of four, carry rape whistles, tasers, pepper spray, attack dogs, all of which definitely would not fit in your handbag along with a camera and those precious euros. The images the media give you of Faliraki, one small town on the island of Rhodes packed full of bars, clubs and restaurants, are of huge groups of British tourists- all members of the 18/30 club or on some package holiday- having drink poured directly down their throats, staggering along the streets and disappearing into dark alleys together. Review of Faliraki, Rhodes

Faliraki not for the fainthearted or is it

Advantages: wall to wall sunshine, lovely beaches and people, loads to do
Disadvantages: crowded and hot in summer months, 2 weeks not long enough

...For those of you who read my last travel report on Cyprus, you will know that this was my best ever holiday, mainly because it was where I got married. But my last holiday to Rhodes came a close second and takes some beating. After much umming and ahhing about where we were going to go for our summer holiday 2 years ago we decided to go to Greece for the first time. Cyprus had got really expensive since our last visit, and I was bored of Spain, so Greece it was. After troughing through brochure after brochure we found the Hotel Espirides in Portland Direct's summer brochure. It looked ideal. It was located just on the outskirts of Faliraki in an area called Kalithea. We thought this would be perfect as it would be away from the noisy nightlife, this being important as our daughter was 4 at the time, and we are past night...

Faliraki - mad

Advantages: Good holiday
Disadvantages: Sally fracturing her foot!

...I went to Faliraki in Rhodes with the girls about 7 years ago (gulp, is it really that long?!) and had a great time. There were 5 of us that went - 3 of us in one apartment and the other 2 (who had booked a few weeks after us) in different accommodation, not far away. We had a great holiday, though it wasn't the most rowdy girls holiday I've been on! Faliraki wasn't as well-known then as it is now - I'm sure if I went back now, there'd be loads more bars. Don't get me wrong, there were lots already, but there was room for more! We tended to stick to the same bars most nights - our favourite was George's Bar, where there was cheap drinks, "spin the wheel" (whatever it landed on was on special offer for 10 mins) and dancing on the bar - a real good laugh. The green green grass of Greece.

Advantages: Much greener than greek islands in the east,some traditionally greek,not bad prices
Disadvantages: Can be rainy,some resorts overdeveloped

Fourka in Halkidiki (Greece)

Advantages: Gorgeous weather, fantastic people, great scenery
Disadvantages: Could perhaps do with a bit of a tidy up in places ?!

...My boyfriend and I wanted a cheap holiday - a week in the sun where we could relax and do not a lot basically! We booked an internet deal through Thompson Holidays for £190 each (incl. flights, transfers and accomodation) for a week in Self Catering appartments. Our flights were from Birmingham to Thessaloniki (which is the nearest airport to Halkidiki). The flight took around 3 hours and we then had an hour and a half transfer from the airport to our resort - Fourka. Halkidiki is split into three penisulars, Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. These are near the north of main land Greece and are surrounded by the Aegean Sea. Kassandra and Sithonia are supposed to be the livliest of the three, although they are not busy or crowded. Review of Halkidiki (Greece)

Kefalos, Kos, Greece

Advantages: cheap to eat out, nice weather and clear blue sea and plenty of water sports
Disadvantages: People of Kos don't seem to like tourists, Windy

...a car or scooter here as they're everywhere. We didn't hire so I can't tell you how much this is and the reason we didn't hire was because they do drive like maniacs in Greece even 14 yr old boys racing on their scooters so do beware of this if you are going to greece. My boyfriend did get up very early one morning to go to the ancient market but I wanted a lie in! He said it was nice and this would be ideal for the historians among us. There he also saw lizards. Faliraki - it's so crappy!

Advantages: Nice beach?
Disadvantages: Fast main road at the top of town.

...Faliraki - a resort in Rhodes, is one to avoid if you are of a mature age. Having been to Rhodes twice now, I can honestly say it is like the Blackpool of Rhodes. There are many bars and what can loosely be termed as restaurants. The average age must be 18/19 and gangs of girls and boys wander the streets in varying states of drunkenness and undress. Not a holiday for the family! If your son or daughter wish to visit say NO! However, if you are an 18 or 19 year old, please carry on going there and don't go to the other resorts on the island as Faliraki has everything you need I'm sure!...

Karystos Relatively Unknown Outside Greece

Advantages: Close to Athens airport and unknown paradise.
Disadvantages: Discos and tourist facilities thin on the ground

...I lived in Karystos for three years and still visit on a regular basis. I got a job there, teaching English, purely on spec. It was one of those accidents that prove you've done something good at some point in the past. I just wish I could remember what! Karystos is a fishing town at the southernmost point of the island of Evvia. Evvia is actually the second biggest island in Greece, after Crete. This fact is relatively unknown, due to its being so close to the mainland. At its closest there is actually a bridge. It hugs the coast of Attica very close to Athens and is loosely classified as one of the Sporiades group of islands. It is also little known because it has no major resorts. Our worst meal ever in Greece

Advantages: We could leave and buy elsewhere
Disadvantages: Just don't go there

...when we arrived at the restaurant. We all voted and he phoned the order through. This review is not about the island, just the worst place in Greece we have eaten, or chose not to. We visited what he had said and it was great. Then lunch. The rep showed us to FRAZIS POPI, I would advise all visitors to avoid it like the plague. We had salad, mine was white cabbage, cucumber and vinegar, unpleasant and inedible. To follow, I had ordered, meatballs, another mistake they were cold with cold chips on a cold plate served by an old lady in slippers with no finesse at all shouting out fish, omelet, chicken, pork. You had to put up your hand for what you had ordered. All cold. The chicken was by far the worst thing I have ever seen let alone eaten. The stuff you find lying on the street after at 3-00am on a Sunday morning...
