Lazy days at the Olvie Press Hotel, Lesvos.

Advantages: No mosquitoes on Lesvos, just very nice people at The Olive Press Hotel.
Disadvantages: About a 2 hour transfer fron airport to resort, but a great journey.

...We have just got back from the Island of Lesvos, where we have spent the last two weeks bathed in sunshine, staying at The Olive Press Hotel in Molyvos, which is the north of the island. The great thing about the island is that there are no mosquitoes?????.. The Olive Press Hotel, is set right on the edge of the sea, in fact the sea laps against one side of the hotel at night, which four elderly visitors had to complain about if only to us. When we booked the resort and the hotel we where asked if we wanted a sea vies, a balcony or no preference, and we decided on the no preference. On a return visit I would ask for a balcony with a sea view if only for the pleasure of sitting there at night, I am not always a good sleeper and to hear and watch the sea would have been wonderful. "The worst hotel in Thessaloniki"

Advantages: cheap, central
Disadvantages: dirty, unpleasant

...Kastoria in northern Greece is a fantastic place to visit for a weekend; the small town hangs of the mountains over a picturesque lake. Alas its name-sake in Thessaloniki has nothing in common. It is a grotty hotel smack-bang in the centre of Thessalonica. I arrived in Thessaloniki at shortly midnight after a rather long journey; with just ?100 in my pocket (most of that destined to be eaten by Taxis) I needed somewhere cheap and central. The taxi took me to road the Hotel Kastoria was on, and told me I had two choices from here. Kastoria and somewhere else. As I had visited the town of Kastoria a few times before, so I held up hope for the Hotel Kastoria, and staggered across the road. The green green grass of Greece.

Advantages: Much greener than greek islands in the east,some traditionally greek,not bad prices
Disadvantages: Can be rainy,some resorts overdeveloped

...a temperate climate hence the excessive greenery, but it can get very hot in the summer months and very wet in Spring. Laganas Bay, situated in the south has an extremely long sandy beach and sea which you can walk out in for ages, it is so shallow. There are tavernas and cafes along the beach and you can walk its length to nearby Kalamaki. This beach at certain times of year has protected Loggerhead turtles nesting on it. However less and less each year, I think. Off the beach is the main strip, a road about as long as the beach set at 90 degrees to it. This road has discos, bars, cafes, restaurants, hotels, cashpoints, chemists and just about any damn thing. So you get the picture if you want the nightlife and are not looking for the real Greece then this is for you. You can get local buses from here, or take tourist trips. There are...

Hotel Coral, Skala Rachoni

Advantages: Nice hotel, good swimming pool and bar, fantastic scenery, close to the beach, very peaceful
Disadvantages: Very remote - a few more tavernas would be advantageous, the seabed was covered in seaweed

...I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights. LOCATION: The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal. PRICE: Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time...

Fourka in Halkidiki (Greece)

Advantages: Gorgeous weather, fantastic people, great scenery
Disadvantages: Could perhaps do with a bit of a tidy up in places ?!

...My boyfriend and I wanted a cheap holiday - a week in the sun where we could relax and do not a lot basically! We booked an internet deal through Thompson Holidays for £190 each (incl. flights, transfers and accomodation) for a week in Self Catering appartments. Our flights were from Birmingham to Thessaloniki (which is the nearest airport to Halkidiki). The flight took around 3 hours and we then had an hour and a half transfer from the airport to our resort - Fourka. Halkidiki is split into three penisulars, Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. These are near the north of main land Greece and are surrounded by the Aegean Sea. Kassandra and Sithonia are supposed to be the livliest of the three, although they are not busy or crowded. Kefalos, Kos, Greece

Advantages: cheap to eat out, nice weather and clear blue sea and plenty of water sports
Disadvantages: People of Kos don't seem to like tourists, Windy

...a car or scooter here as they're everywhere. We didn't hire so I can't tell you how much this is and the reason we didn't hire was because they do drive like maniacs in Greece even 14 yr old boys racing on their scooters so do beware of this if you are going to greece. My boyfriend did get up very early one morning to go to the ancient market but I wanted a lie in! He said it was nice and this would be ideal for the historians among us. There he also saw lizards. The hotel can be found along the seafront, about three miles from the main centre of Blackpool, heading out towards Fleetwood. It is now under the Britannia hotels group and it is easily accessible by tram and bus. We used the trams the whole time instead of me driving all the time. My husband, my two youngest children and myself went last week for a couple of nights, after finding an advert which gave a special price of £35 per person dinner bed and breakfast per night. The two children were included free of charge, including their meals. The advert did state that the hotel was ungoing a £7million pound upgrade, and that some services may not be available. It is currently rated as a three star hotel, but I cannot for the life of me see why as I found it to be of at least four star standard. There are 86 rooms, all of which incorporate an en suite bathroom and are decorated to a decent standard. All rooms include a hair dryer, trouser press, direct dial telephone, satellite television (selected channels only) and the complementary tray of tea, coffee and biscuits. There are four types of rooms available in relation to the view they offer the guests.
