Fourka in Halkidiki (Greece)

Advantages: Gorgeous weather, fantastic people, great scenery
Disadvantages: Could perhaps do with a bit of a tidy up in places ?!

...My boyfriend and I wanted a cheap holiday - a week in the sun where we could relax and do not a lot basically! We booked an internet deal through Thompson Holidays for £190 each (incl. flights, transfers and accomodation) for a week in Self Catering appartments. Our flights were from Birmingham to Thessaloniki (which is the nearest airport to Halkidiki). The flight took around 3 hours and we then had an hour and a half transfer from the airport to our resort - Fourka. Halkidiki is split into three penisulars, Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos. These are near the north of main land Greece and are surrounded by the Aegean Sea. Kassandra and Sithonia are supposed to be the livliest of the three, although they are not busy or crowded. Pefkohori Paradise, Halkidiki Heaven

Advantages: Beautiful, Cheap and not too 'Touristy'!!
Disadvantages: Not much to do if you haven't got an imagination!!

...Wow! Well, as I write this, I have only been home from Greece for four days and although am now back into the boring old routine and miserable weather, I still can't help but feel relaxed and refreshed after a spectacular Greek Odyssey all of my own! My partner and I stayed in a small town called Pefkohori which is in Halkidiki, on the Kassandra peninsula. Halkidiki basically consists of a three prong peninsula, a little like a trident that sticks out of Greece! The other two peninsulas being Sithonia and Athos. Pefkohori is absolutely stunning. It is a small town which seems to have more of the local people around than actual tourists which is a nice, refreshing change. Its Hot In Halkidiki

Advantages: Sunny, cheap, relaxing
Disadvantages: Very Quiet, not very well situated

...Well I haven’t wrote an opinion for a while now and the reason being I have been away in Halkadiki, so what better to write and op on, so here goes. ...I went on holiday in Greece with my friend last year to different place then i usually go.We went to Halkidiki. We booked our holidays through Polish agency as its much cheaper but not much convenient when you book last minute. I mean i had to go to Poland to go to Greece it was a long trip but i survived.We landed in Kavala and transfer to the hotel took about 2.45min.By the end of the evening i was really tired.Theoxenia is 4* hotel and is very nice.Rooms are in good size at least our was and was clean.We were on half board basis so we had breakfast and supper all buffet style. Halkidiki is THE BEST HOLIDAY EVER!!

Advantages: amazingly gorgeous beaches!, cheap food, gorgeous weather, perfect for a peaceful break
Disadvantages: If you are a big clubber you probably wouldnt like it.

...I went on holiday to Halkidiki in July 2003. WHERE I STAYED: I stayed in Kriopigi, at Krassa Anasacia studios which are rooms only. Very clean and really nice people work there, cleaners everyday and immaculate. You have to share 2 swimming pools with the studios below and above you, which are right by you anyway! The main part of town was just around the corner where there were lots of bars, restaurants and shops, also moped and car hire places. I would reccomend to couples only. THE BEACH The beaches there are unbelievable! gorgeous white sand, clear blue sea and really quiet and peaceful! THE BEACH WAS JUST DOWN THE ROAD BUT BECAUSE IT IS A HILL, THERE WAS A FREE BUS GOING UP AND DOWN ALL DAY! RESTAURANTS I loved the food over there, it was really cheap, restaurants are very clean and the Greek people dont try...

Fantastic clean family run hotel

Advantages: clean friendly great location

...Hotel Nostos is situated just outside the small town of kalithea on the halkidiki peninsular of mainland greece. My wife and I visited this hotel for our honeymoon (my first time abroad) and were pleasantly surprised by how nice it really was. The hotel itself is not very large but makes up for it in a big way with the service, the site is run by a family (two generations at least) with the wife of the son being English, all the staff are very friendly and more then happy to engage in conversation with the customers, even those that do not speak very good English. Everything about the place is immaculate from the the rooms which a bright spacious and airy to the garden area/poolside and the bar/restaurant, the pool itself was also very clan and welcoming. Lefkas Rub shoulders with the rich and famous

Advantages: Hot warms seas friendly local people
Disadvantages: mopeds traffic pollution from vehicles

...to three different islands. It costs just 2 euro for a forty minute trip. Away from Nidri, firther down the coast is Vasiliki which is popular with surfers and there are many small villages and resorts along the coast that are much quieter than where we were. The island is beautiful once you get away from the main roads and the people are friendly and helpful. Accomodation comes in the form of cheap studios and appartments, right up to quality hotels (bearing in mind that Greek hotels are not of the same standard as you get in places like Cyprus.) I would recommend the George Hotel in Nidri but there are many to choose from at prices to suit all pockets. Did I enjoy my trip to Lefkas? Yes, it was fun,but I wouldn't go again. It's more of a holiday destination for younger people. It would suit students, young couples, etc...

A great place for all holiday makers.

...I went to Halkidiki this August with my cousin for a week. It ws very different to what i had expected. This is because i expected Halkidiki to be full of people who just want to go out and have a good time. However, there wasn't just those types of people, there were also couples with children, young couples, party people, old people and many more. There was literally every category of people that you can imagine. Halkidiki is an area to the north of mainland Greece. Lazy days at the Olvie Press Hotel, Lesvos.

Advantages: No mosquitoes on Lesvos, just very nice people at The Olive Press Hotel.
Disadvantages: About a 2 hour transfer fron airport to resort, but a great journey.

...We have just got back from the Island of Lesvos, where we have spent the last two weeks bathed in sunshine, staying at The Olive Press Hotel in Molyvos, which is the north of the island. The great thing about the island is that there are no mosquitoes?????.. The Olive Press Hotel, is set right on the edge of the sea, in fact the sea laps against one side of the hotel at night, which four elderly visitors had to complain about if only to us. When we booked the resort and the hotel we where asked if we wanted a sea vies, a balcony or no preference, and we decided on the no preference. On a return visit I would ask for a balcony with a sea view if only for the pleasure of sitting there at night, I am not always a good sleeper and to hear and watch the sea would have been wonderful.
