Green streets of London
Advantages: graphic portrayal
Disadvantages: graphic portrayal
...Green Street, I found a superb film, brought this for my husband originally, as normally I wouldn't watch a film like this, or so I thought.
Yes it is extremely violent, but if you can some how cut through the violence, there is a brilliant emotional story to be told.
Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood) plays a young American college student, who gets set up by a fellow student, on a drugs bust, and is kicked out of college.
He has a sister in England, and decides to visit, and broaden his horizons has a potential writer.
His horizons are broaden all right, when he is introduced to Football, and in particular Football violence.
After watching the film, I think the director and writer, certainly have captured, what going to Football matches used to be like, but I truly believe if this is meant to be a portrayal of Football today...

Green Street [Hooligans]
Advantages: Violence
Disadvantages: Elijah Wood, Bad Cockney Accents, Ridiculously Unrealist
...Hot on the heels of The Football Factory comes another attempt at understanding the British thug sub-culture. This time (in an obvious attempt to increase American awareness) Elijah Wood is cast at the centre of it all, playing a Harvard journalism student turned hard-edged football hooligan. Sound ridiculous? It pretty much is.
Green Street is not a hugely terrible film, but it is difficult one to take seriously. Matt Buckman (Wood) is wrongfully expelled from College, and jumps abroad a plane to London to visit his sister (Claire Forlani) and husband Steve (Marc Warren). Soon Matt starts hitting the local pubs and going to "Soccer" games with Steve's bad boy brother Pete (Charlie Hunnam), and becomes involved with the GSE firm (a supposed imitation of West Ham's notorious Inter-City Firm).
As an actor, it is understandable by...

Green Street Hooligans
Advantages: Great, hard hitting realistic film and lots of eye candy!
Disadvantages: May be too brutal for some
...'Green Street' or 'Green Street Hooligans' as it is often referred to is a film that was made in 2005 and written and directed by Lexi Alexander.
As you can tell from the title, the film is not a film that will leave you feeling all warm and happy inside and is rated 18 for obvious reasons.
'Green Street' centres on the lives on West Hams Football Hooligans, which in the film are called the G.S.E or 'Green Street Elite'.
Matt Buckner is the central character, played by Elijah Wood, better known for such films as : Lord of the Rings and The Faculty.
He plays an extremely talented ,up and coming journalist, who is studying this subject at the extremely prestigious 'Harvard' University in America.
Matt shares a room with a man called 'Van Holden',who is well connected due to his Dads political carreer.
Unfortunately for Matt,Van Holden...

Green Street
Advantages: Fast paced, action filled, brilliant effects, amazing story.
Disadvantages: it leaves you wanting more!
...I have to say, in my opinon this is THE best football/gang film ever made. Director Lexi Alexander, has managed to capture the sheer brutality of the gang violence and hooliganism that was often commonplace in the nations favourite sport a decade ago, yet combined it with a heartfelt story which keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. Elijah Wood plays 'Matt Buckner' a student at harvard university who is forced to leave after taking the rap for his drug addict room mate. He moves to England where he reunites with his sister, and through her meets her husbands brother 'Pete Dunham' who introduces him to the GSE, 'green street elite'. The GSE are hardcore west ham fans whos arch rivals are Millwall. The film follows the story as Matt joins the GSE at all the football fixtures and subsequently the brawls that follow between each...

A trip down Green Street
Advantages: A top notch performance from Wood
Disadvantages: Charlie Dunham is rotten, and the story is lacklustre
...When ex-Harvard student Matt Buckner is kicked out for apparently possessing cocaine, he flies to england to stay with his sister Shannon and her husband Steve. Upon meeting brother in law Pete, he is promptly dragged into the world of organised football hooliganism. As Matt vies for acceptance with his new friends, he at first finds that his obvious Americanism is a hindrence, but showing willing he is soon accepted by the majority of the group. However as arch enemies Milwall and West Ham United go up against each other in the ultimate match, the hooligans soon find themselves underground in a fight to the death.
This film isn't so much about the hooliganism of football fans as it is just an out and out excuse to cause trouble on the streets. The theme of football violence takes a backseat to the gratuitous violence that seems...

Green Street Hobbitt, I mean Hooligan
Advantages: Some of the fight scenes are very well filmed abd choreographed
Disadvantages: casting and accents are quite poor
...Green street is a look into football violence and the consequences as such of bringing this into your lives, therefore the movie has a strong emotive story and some harsh truths.
However, this story has some plot holes that dont seem to make sense, if your brother was a hooligan, member of the green street elite, would you actually tell your naive american journalist brother in law to go with him to a football match?? nope!
Anyway, that aside, I do like this type of movie, wher you know that these things happen and for some people, this storyline is a reality. It is violent, sometimes unnecesarliy so, but all in all it is a decent portrayal of the journey.
Yes the accents are very bad, and yes Elijah is still a hobbit, and isnt your typical thug character but then again what does a football hooligan look like? Some...

Green Street
Advantages: Good Cast and Storyline
Disadvantages: Lots of Violence
...This film was produced in 2005.
Green Street is about two rival football firms who go head-to-head in this story of violence, alcohol and football. Matt Buckner (Elijah Wood) is doing a journalism course at Harvard University but gets chucked out for alleged drug dealing. He goes to London to stay with his sister Shannon (Claire Forlani), her husband Steve and their baby.
It is here when he meets Pete Dunham (Charlie Hunnam) who is Steves brother and is introduced to the world of ?soccer?. Before long Matt gets sucked into the world of booze, balls and violence with London?s toughest football firm - The Green Street Elite (GSE). While Matt?s busy proving himself in a battle, a chain of events is set in motion that threatens to destroy everything he holds dear.
Initally, Matt is scared, but as he learns more about the GSE, he...

The Green Street Elite
Advantages: Plenty of action and an insight into the world of football hooligans
Disadvantages: Elijah Wood
...When my boyfriend came home with this film i wasn't overly impressed with him!
I bit my tongue however and sat and watched it all the way through.
I do follow football but you don't need to know much about it to enjoy this film as it is more based around the hooligans and the 'firms'.
Elijah Wood comes to London to visit his sister and is taken to his first football match by his brother in laws brother, pete.
It is there he has his first taste on the darker side to the matches and throws his first punches in a fight after the match.
Elijah becomes part of the Green Street Elite much to the disapproval of one of the members, Bovva.
Plenty of blood is shed and pints drunk during this film, as the effects of holigans begins to effect families.
I did really like this film on the whole but the one thing that made me...

Green Street - Top Film!!
Advantages: Deep, quality film, good story with some great characters
Disadvantages: Quite brutal in places
....
The plot is based around Matt an American who gets set up for possessing drugs that were not his, he decides to go visit his sister in London and ends up falling in with The Green Street Elite the firm for West Ham United - the firms for each team fight and are basically what most people class as football hooligans - he forms great friendship with Pete who runs the GSE and the story is based around mainly these two characters.
I do not want to give away the entire plot of the film but I can honestly say since buying it, I have watched it loads and still love it - I would recommend giving it a go to anyone - everyone I know who has watched it has loved it to!
I just saw it on sale in Asda for £5 and im sure its even cheaper online!
Give it a try....

Green Street 2 DVD Review
Advantages: Erm, none?
Disadvantages: Everything you could possibly imagine.
...Without being entirely ignorant, there are always certain films that I anticipate seeing more than others. After the pretty dreadful Green Street, I'd be lying if I said hearing the rumours about a straight-to-dvd sequel had me, in any way, twitching in extreme anticipation.
Green Street 2 tracks the members of rival firms West Ham United and Millwall, who are now serving time in a tough prison for their fighting in the previous film.
After wasting an hour and half of my life to watch this pathetic attempt at filmmaking, I can conclude that my instincts were indeed right.
Firstly, how they can even call it a "sequel" is way beyond me, as it contains just one actor from the first film- Dave (and no, I can't remember him either). The violence is explicit, but poorly choreographed; never exciting or partly intriguing. The acting I...
