It's Not Easy Being Green (Tea)

Advantages: Ethical green tea, conveniently packaged
Disadvantages: Slighly bitter, not as tasty as loose tea

...I didn't grow up a tea drinker - I am American, we don't do tea that well. However, I have been in the UK for over 20 years, and now have a cup of tea (made in a tea pot with loose tea, natch) each morning. Sometimes, though, I don't fancy 'normal' tea, especially if I'm trying to avoid milk (which I do when I'm dieting). I have, therefore, discovered green tea. And I like it. Somehow, green tea always tastes better in Chinese restaurants. I am not in a Chinese restaurant though, I'm at my desk. In front of me is a cup of Clipper Organic Green Tea. Rather unimaginatively, the tea bags are packed in a green box. As well as being organic, this tea is also Fair Trade, thus ticking all the ethical boxes. Advantages: Smell gorgeous and it's Lipton!
Disadvantages: The colour and too much mint!

Tetley Green Tea Pure

Disadvantages: Caffeine but can buy decaf if you can find it

...I have always liked coffee rather than tea but sometimes drank tea until 11 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, it put me off tea and coffee, coffee I drank again, tea I never touched. I had seen an advertisement for this Tetley Green Tea Pure in a supermarket magazine and watched various programmes on tv saying how good green tea is for you. Green tea is supposed to have more antioxidants than normal tea and maybe help prevent cancer killing the bad cells, also heard that it can even help reduce plaque on teeth, the only bad thing about this green tea is that it contains caffeine but not as much as coffee, I always have decaffenated coffee as caffeine seems to make my heart race, also reading about green tea it suggests that you should not drink it if you have heart or kidney problems (may be the caffeine, not sure...

...wear from what I can see through researching it on a few websites and it certainly gives the impression that it’s quite a casual scent. The bottle is extremely simple (I suppose some would call it elegant but I found it a bit boring) – being made of clear glass in a tall oblong shape, which is rounded at the edges (see pic). The lid is quite long and is a pale green colour and there is simply just an etched tea leaf on the front of the bottle. The perfume inside the bottle has a pale green tinge to it. It should be pointed out at this stage that this green colour will not discolour skin or clothing (or at least – it didn’t on me). I used it in my bath as per the instructions printed on the back of the bottle, which advised to generously pour the aromatic oil into your bath water to transform the steaming bath into a creamy moisturising dip, which claimed to pamper your skin with real green tea extract and a blend of botanicals. I have to say that this Moisturising Dip left my skin feeling so silky and smooth that I did not feel the need to use body lotion afterwards. It also left my skin smelling wonderful for most of the day. Due to its fresh fragrance, I think that I will save the rest of the bottle to use during the Spring and Summer months. I found the fragrance to be very uplifting and as it contains so many different notes, I cannot actually describe in words what it smells like...

...Green tea is made by briefly steaming the just harvested leaves, rendering them soft and pliable and preventing them from fermenting or changing colour. After steaming, the leaves are rolled, then spread out and "fired" (dried with hot air or pan-fried in a wok) until they are crisp. This produces a greenish-yellow tea with a slightly astringent flavour which closely resembles the taste of the fresh leaf. I find the Twinings green tea varieties more fully flavoured than their other herbal and fruit teas. But then again green tea is a very strong flavoured drink. In this blend apple and pear have been added in order to reduce some of the bitterness of the green tea. The result is refreshing brew with just a hint of apple and pear.
