Applause AE64 Acoustic Electric Guitar

...So I'm sat here in my room at my halls of residence playing on my acoustic electric guitar, when it hit me..."could I review this on Ciao?"...yes, I could!! Applause Guitars are the younger brother of guitar manufacturers Ovation, who have been making trustworthy guitars for over 30 years now, and here have used this experience to make a guitar that doesn't sound like a guitar that is as cheap as this, but is a high-quality product. My model number is actually the AE 28, rather than the 64, but trust me, from what I know about Ovations and what else I can work out, there are no differences here except the numbers! I brought it in November last year from a local music retailers, who I purchased my two other guitars (both electric), so trusted them fully when they recommended me this offering, and they've not let me down...

THE best electro acoustic guitar!

Advantages: Sound, build, playability
Disadvantages: Rounded back can be awkward at first.

...If you have read some of my other guitar reviews, you will know im a bit of a collector of guitars. In fact, you could almost say its an obsession. Therfore no collection would be complete without an axe from one of the world's finest and best known acoustic producers. Ovation. I own the Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which i believe is the finest looking in the Ovation range. However, you will also know that from my other reviews, Im left handed with the guitar which narrows your choice in colour. For a Right hander, the choices include, Black, Natural, Wine, Green and a sunburst effect top and also available in vasious mapel finishes. Im afraid to say my only choice was Black. Still it does look rather fetching and contrasts well with the Marquetry effect leaves around the multiple sound holes. Being an Ovation, it does come...

...~~ Purchase ~~ I bought my SP122 at Argos over two years ago along with a compatible and matching Acoustic Solutions SP101 Amplifier, Acoustic Solution SP111 DAB/FM Tuner and a pair of Acoustic Solution AVCS Column Stereo Speakers. I took advantage of a deal that was on offer at the time whereby if you bought the amp, tuner and CD player you would receive the speakers for free. ~~ Set up and Appearance ~~ This is an easy to use and uncomplicated CD unit. It's easy and straight forward to set up and attach to other units. I must admit though, it looked much better in the Argos catalogue than it does now that I have it set up in the living room. ...The Epipiphone Hummingbird is my first Acoustic guitar i have not stolen off my dad. £300 is not a bad deal, seeing as the Gibson acoustics are all around £3000. The looks and finish of this guitar are very nice, i enjoy graphics on my guitar as long as they arent too loud, and this 'mockingbird' illustration is just plain pleasent. The shape of the guitar is perfect so that it can sit on your lap for hours and not ache, partly due to its incredibly light weight. The playability is pretty much perfect, the best you can get for a £300 acoustic, and times I thought I was playing an electric, the fretboard was just so slim, the strings were at perfect distance from the fretboard. The sound is not as good as the playability I must admit, probably because of the lightweight body, it is not hard enough to sustain the notes for a very long...

Advantages: A fine work by the Deathstars
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little formulaic

...it's quite slow in tempo, but it's certainly got me trying to move in time as I listen. It glides along to a faster finish. A most satisfying start to the album. 7/10 2. "Night Electric Night" The second song is faster in tempo, although does alternate between faster and slower sections building up to a fast finish, which is something I demand and appreciate from the Deathstars. I love the finish of this. It also satisfies and makes me chair-dance. 7/10 3. "Death Dies Hard" I will deny you This world belongs to me This is apparently the first single from the album. It seems a pretty solid choice. To me, it feels like a James Bond theme, and the title certainly sounds Bond-ish. I like it. The keyboards remind me of a-ha, too. 1 of the elite trio of acoustic brands!!!

Advantages: will last a life time, sounds great, plays great, will not depreciate
Disadvantages: costly to begin with

...After playing for 12 years I had finally found an acoustic that was worthy of being purchased by myself. The acoustic market has an elite trio which consists in my opinion of: Taylor, Gibson and Martin. All offer fantastic tones, comfortable playability, exceptional intonation and superb craftsmanship. They are the bench mark of acoustics that offer outstanding quality which other brands cannot match. To put it quite simply, If you purchase a Martin you will never have to buy another acoustic again, they are the perfect tool for all professional players. In my experience I have never seen one loose any value or sound bad. My advice would be to certainly shop around to find the best deals and Do not just settle on the first that you pick up unless you are instantly happy with its feel and sound. No two acoustics are identical in sound...

Is the future electric?

Advantages: Zero emissions, quiet running, climate friendly, cheap to run
Disadvantages: Limited range, few power points, expensive to buy

...The British government recently announced that from 2011 they would contribute up to £5000 towards purchasing one of the new generation of electric vehicles that will become available. Is this a generous offer from a proactive government serious about climate change or a move from a desperate bunch of politicians? On face value it looks quite good but there are numerous questions that have been unanswered & throw doubt on their offer. They chose an unusual time to announce it, two days before a rather grim budget; surely it would have made more impact on budget day. Cynics would say they chose two days before the budget to divert attention away from the Damien Green nasty emails affair & the constant press attention to MP?s expenses. I have little time or respect for modern day politicians & tend to agree with the latter assumption...
