Morning in the Hall of the Mountain King
Advantages: Slow laments, sensuous dances
Disadvantages: None are possible
...Composed by Edvard Grieg
Performed by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
Conducted by Herbert von Karajan
Label Deutsche Grammophon
Price £6.99
Released: April 1, 1989
Available in most good music stores
Edvard Grieg was born in Bergen, Norway in 1843. He is the greatest composer Norway has ever produced. At the age of only 15 years, Grieg went to the Leipzig Conservatory to study music. Four years later he left the Conservatory as a full-fledged musician and composer.
Grieg is a nationalist and succeeded in bringing these together elements of Norwegian folk music and his own personal conceptions of Norwegian nature and the Norwegian character. (Although Great Britain can lay some claim to Grieg?s descendancy ? his great grandfather was a Scot).
Henrik Ibsen, a playwright and fellow Norwegian asked him to write...

Whores will have their trinkets
Advantages: Well writing chaos comedy
Disadvantages: Sometimes a little too predicatble
...however, you do find a reason for some of Bernards unhapiness.
In the 1st series, Bernard finds a new assistant, Manny (Bill Bailey), who their shop neighbour Fran (Tamsin Grieg) has to fight with Bernanrd for Manny to be hired.
MKanny is, well just Bill Bailey really. A laid back (stoned?) hippy type who likes to see the lighter side of everything. That's probably why Bernard and Manny clash so often, with one trying to lift the mood and the other trying to make everyone else as miserable as he.
Fran, who owns the shop next door, is one of those friends everyone has. the first to a party with more alcohol than needed to fill a football team, but the last standing at the end complaining about the lack of alcohol available.
The show features some incredible antics from the 3 including worm suits, spoons in pianos, a manic trip...

Manny...MANNY....MAAAAANNY!
Advantages: absolutely hilarious, and some great acting!
Disadvantages: have experienced none
...This collection of episodes are among the funniest I have ever seen, with comedians, Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey, they work well together as a comedy double act, with Tamsin Grieg joining as a third party to add to the fun.
The Plot
The story revolves around the bookshop (Black Books) where Bernard (the shopkeeper, played by Dylan Moran) has a habit of hugely disliking his customers, but all of a sudden, Manny, (played by Bill Bailey) with his hawaiian shirts and long hair, and is offered a job by a very intoxicated Bernard. Fran, who owns the shop next door immediately likes Manny, and becomes a firm friend, much to Bernards distain! Each episode is another comedy filled day inside the four walls of the bookshop.
The Characters
Each of the characters have their own special habits and style of acting with the others, which gives...

Greig Middleton and Co Limited
Advantages: Fast efficent service, very knowledgeable staff, everything done through 1st class postage.
Disadvantages: Sometimes the trade takes about 5 mins to go through.
...I have been trading stocks and shares with Grieg Middleton since about September 1998 and have been pleased with every effort that they have made in efficency and advice on stocks and shares. I am only a small investor and make about 3-6 transactions a year of anything between £1000 - £2000 a time.
I have found Grieg Middleton very competitive in the share market dealings along with knowlege and understanding of predicted share to go up. Greig Middleton has 3 extra charges made to you when buying or selling shares. These are
Stamp duty which is about 0.5% extra
Commission at £25 a time for dealings under £1000 and £29.50 over £1000
Admin charge of £15 a time
This is not too bad and the service and transactions are very fast to say that it is a phone service to buy and sell and postal payments. if you buy or sell any shares...

Black Books plus Simon Pegg equals genius
Advantages: Really funny, great relationship between main characters
Disadvantages: There is no more
...one; if that really is the case, then this really is a great place to stop. Series three is, if possible, the strongest so far - I absolutely loved every episode and laughed my way through from start to finish.
Part of the charm of Black Books is the relationship between the three main characters. Dylan Moran, so often a secondary character, is the real star here as well as contributing to the writing - his dark sarcasm is perfect for the role and as Bernard, he manages to be both lovable and disgusting all in one go. Yet despite his own faults, he is quick to be critical of others, and tends to bully Manny, played by Bill Bailey. I have really warmed to Bill Bailey because of his role in Black Books. He is sweet and very loyal to Manny and Fran, despite their treatment of him, and is very very funny. Fran (Tamsin Grieg) is the glue...

Manny the Brave
Advantages: Highly entertaining
Disadvantages: None really
...him in Black Books, it is hard to see why, because he brings a vulnerability to the show that is hard to resist, particularly when he is letting Bernard boss him around. It is a real pleasure to see him acting with both Dylan Moran and Tamsin Grieg (Fran) - I would find it hard to believe that they are anything other than the best of friends in real life, because the way they bounce off each other is so natural.
I've seen Tamsin Grieg in a couple of roles now, most recently Love Soup, and, in my opinion, anyway, she always gives a good performance. This role as Fran is her first major television performance, but is definitely one of her best. Like Bill Bailey, she manages to connect with the audience - she wears her flaws on her sleeve and this makes her easy to identify with. She has some cracking lines in this series - I particularly...

Maksim-um performance!
Advantages: Just a thoroughly good album!
Disadvantages: Can't think of any...
...good as the originals... maybe? I dunno?
Anyway, even among all the pop, dance and rock music I own that are in the charts these days, The Piano Player remains among my favourites. Also, i've had it for a while and i'm sooo not bored of it!
I got my copy for £16, which I know I was silly to pay but I really wanted it at the time! It?s worth it! But I think you could probably get it much cheaper if you have a shop around, or browse the net.
Track listings:

2. Grieg?s Piano Concerto in A minor
3. Exodus

Atmospheric
Advantages: Atmospheric
Disadvantages: Damp, although that will be cleared up
...The Arches in Glasgow is a superb venue for the arts. Hosting theatre, modern art, music and clubbing it is one of the most atmospheric and 'hip' places to be. Built under Central Station, it is designed in 4 main arches.
I have performed in one play at The Arches, and for that to happen it was a dream come true. The theatre hosts all different types of plays from J.B. Priestly to David Grieg, from Greek tragedy to black comedy. The theatre currently seats around 200 in the studio form, but companies like fACTional have been known to do promenade performances that usues the whole spaces.
The Arches is currently in the process of being refurbished, so what it will be like at the end of the year is hard to say. But it will have a new enterance on Argyll Street, there is now daylight entering the building, it will now use all 6...
