Wonderful Anniversary at the Conrad Brussels

Advantages: Immaculate Accommodation. Superb Staff. Excellent ambience. Attention to detail.
Disadvantages: It's not usually cheap, but some great deals can be found - as we did.

...We had really looked forward to spending our twelfth wedding anniversary at the Conrad for some time and we were certainly in no way disappointed. It being our wedding anniversary, and being a Hilton Hhonors Gold VIP member, we were given a free upgrade to an absolutely superb duplex suite at an astonishingly good rate, although it is clear that any room at this hotel would be delightful; it's known for its very spacious, well-furnished rooms. Basic rooms are 42 square metres - yet our suite boasted 120 square metres. We paid 190 Euros per night. The rack rate was 1150 Euros. The Euro is very much on a par with the US Dollar. We were absolutely delighted! Two nights in a duplex suite, a bottle of champagne on ice, international telephone call from our room, delivered breakfast and a room-service pizza late at night all came to less...

The piece of mind alarm

Advantages: Easy to use.
Disadvantages: Watch out for the box settings

...We purchased our Wicks wire free alarm when we moved into our new house three years ago, having been burgaled two years previously at our former address i needed something to give me piece of mind having two young children in the house (i became a bit of a basket case for a while after, and have developed ocd since!!) The alarm came with a keypad that has to be near a plug socket and plugged in at all times, although there is a solar battery in the outside box in case of power cuts. You also get as part of the basic package two room sensors that if placed in the correct part of the room ie, the corner, scans 180 degrees round the room to detect movement. You also have three door sensors that detect the doors being opened. I would like to say that it was extremely easy to install, but i didn't do it myself my dad and uncle are...

My smoke alarms are now quite elderly (20 years+) so I started looking at the options. I discovered that there are more than just one type of smoke alarm. They are very sensitive to small particles of smoke produced by flaming fires, such as chip pans, and will detect this type of fire before the smoke gets too thick. Alarming thought

Disadvantages: goes off for no apparent reason

...It's an alarming thought that someone dies every day due to the fact they never had a smoke alarm fitted. Another reason for this is the removal of the devices' battery, or indeed a flat battery. It is to this end that our local council comes round a check on a regular basis. If you do have a smoke alarm fitted and it tends to beep now and then, this could be an indication the battery needs replaced. Most fires start at night and if you do not have an alarm fitted your chances of survival are virtually Zero. Fire is not the main killer in accidents like this. If you have no alarm and are asleep, it's the smoke that's going to get you first. Not a nice way to go, but you can give yourself a fighting chance if you BUY A SMOKE ALARM. We have two smoke alarms in our house, and there are many occasions when I felt like breaking them...

Silent Alarm

Advantages: The true revival of Joy Division-esque music
Disadvantages: Tracks are somewhat too similar at times

...Bloc Party's debut album, 'Silent Alarm' arrived in mid Feb 2005 to critical acclaim as the possible answer for the next Joy Division, and it's clear to see why. The first thing you can note is the 'indie' feel, and the drum beats that are reminiscent of Joy Division at their brief yet best time. The guitars seemed to have picked up their own unique sound as well, and Kele Okereke's vocals are strong, and something Damon Albarn-like about them. The opening track 'Like Eating Glass' is an excellent starting point, and could quite easily be a single at some point. The musical elements here are an excellent indication of what is to follow throughout the album. 'Helicopter' is one of the albums highlights, and proof of some of the catchy and exciting guitar riffs on the album. Released as a single, it is certainly a song that will...

Cause for Alarm? Nothing to get worked up about

I had previously read and enjoyed one of Erica Spindler?s novels and when I accepted ?Cause for Alarm? from a friend, I had assumed that this one would involve the same central characters. In actual fact this is a stand alone novel and does not use characters from Spindler?s other novels although, like her other novels, it is set in the New Orleans area. Disappointingly the setting is neither here nor there as it has no particular relevance to the story, nor does it successfully capture the essence of that fine southern city in spite of occasional reference to the grand houses associated with New Orleans area. After a couple of chapters I realised that ?Cause for Alarm? didn?t feature the characters I?d met in the other Spindler novel I?d read and so I turned to the back cover blurb. Curiously...

Smoke alarm and pendant light in one - fantastic

Advantages: Barely noticeable looks, no batteries to change, illuminates lights to help escape
Disadvantages: May suddenly turn the bedroom light on at 2am if there's a power cut

...This is an excellent solution to having unsightly smoke alarms on the ceiling. The Housesafe smoke alarm replaces the normal pendant light rose on the ceiling and the smoke alarm and sensors are concealed in the base. It is wired into the mains like a normal pendant light would be and once smoke has been detected, the siren activates and automatically illuminates the pendant light to provide an illuminated escape route. In the event of a mains power failure, the alarm is still operational via a rechargeable battery contained within it and it contains a power monitoring supply system to ensure 100% effectiveness. The area of power failures is, I think, it's only downfall. If say, you have one of these in your bedroom and there's a power failure at 3am, the alarm will switch to battery power and automatically turn the bedroom...

Why does the dog need a burglar alarm?

...Being a first time home owner, I was particularly concerned with my safety and the protection of my property. Crimes such as murder and theft seem to be on the rise, and can anyone ever feel too safe? I want to summon the law enforcement community to my home in a moments notice. Strangely enough, I have a dog. This story will seem rather amusing as it progresses. I was referred to an ADT salesman, who arrived and assessing the situation, came up with an affordable plan for me. I signed an agreement for the plan, and the next day a technician arrived and installed the alarm. He then made sure I understood how to arm and disarm the system. I was also given easy to follow step-by-step instructions and a video. They do want to make sure you understand the system. They want to avoid 'false' alarms, and you are only allowed three a year...

Raise The Alarm!!!

Advantages: A new very strong sound, with much variation throughout the album
Disadvantages: Maybe not to everyones taste, but definitely a good future for the band

...for the duration of the song, which has a constant steady pace. "I Ain't Losing Any Sleep" starts at a slow pace and slowly picks up a bit more speed, giving a strong chorus, and a steady speed throughout. "My Army" picks up the pace a bit more after the previous track. Not the best on the album but still pretty good. "Raise The Alarm" is the last listed track on the album and is another with a great beat and bass-line. It ends with quite a full sound, picking up speed towards the very end, with a lot of experimental noises and a good ending. But wait, there's a hidden track. The extra track on the end of "Raise The Alarm", starts with a beat similar to "Bloc Party's- Banquet" and continues with a strong bass and guitar. Strong vocals, just gives the album a more dramatic exit, a bit of an encore. This is a great album with a new sound...
