...The Mk2 Golf GTi is an iconic eighties hatchback. The model I have been driving for the last year is an 1989 8 valve GTi and is a car that has been a pleasure to own and drive. The handling is remarkably deft and capable considering the age of the car and handles as well as, if not better than, many modern hatchbacks. The car is also surprisingly powerful, with far greater acceleration than than many of the sporty new little corsas and clios etc. Most of these Golfs now have very high mileage but that is famously not much of a problem with these cars, many of which have been able to pick up an astronomical mileage. My own has covered nearly 100,000 miles which is actually quite low compared to most mk2 golfs around. MK2 Golf GTI's - Built to last!

Advantages: Fast, Solid, Reliable, Built to last, Cheap for Parts now
Disadvantages: Getting old, hard to find a perfect example

...Well what can I say about the MK2 Golf? especially the GTI model imparticular? I have owned 11 MK2's with 7 of them being the GTI model. They are very solid, realiable and will run forever! Not only being very quick, they are excellent to 'mod'. There are many things that you can do to a GTI to suit your style, add rims, adjustable suspensions or even VR6 conversions. If you are interested in this, there are many enthusiast clubs along with shows up and down the country. Be careful when buying your golf as some may have been thrashed, sills may be rusted or clutches may be on there way out. As when buying any car, check all points thoroughly and take a look at a few. Although parts may not be expensive, problems that may exist may end up costing $$$ (e.g. if the bottom of the door is shot, you may need to get another door...

VW Polo GTi as a 2nd hand Car

Advantages: Nippy for a small engine size, good handling, good build quality, tons of equipment!
Disadvantages: Gearbox bearings can wear between 60 and 80k, pedal box recall, bbs alloys corrode easily.

...I bought my W plate Polo GTi in October 2006 and decided to write a review covering what you should look for if you are looking to buy a 2nd hand Polo GTi. I did a lot of research while I was looking for my car and feel that this knowledge could be a great help to others. I'll do the basic information first. The Polo GTi was only ever made in 3 colours, Red, Silver and Black - any other coloured car you may see badged up as a GTi will either be an import or an engine conversion. The car came as either a 3 or 5 door and had a subtle bodykit which included a black plastic splitter on the bumper, honeycomb grills, front fog lights, side skirts and a spolier. Best Gti ever.

Advantages: Fast, excellent handling, easy maintenance, plethora of parts available.
Disadvantages: None.

...I owned a 1987 VW Golf Gti 16V for around 2 years until I had to sell it recently. Although they are becoming rare, and any good ones that are left are quire expensive, this is a very good car. A lot of motoring enthusiasts agree that the mk II Gti was the last tru Golf Gti until the mk V came along. The mk III and IV are far too heavy for the power that their engines produce nad this weight affects the handling too. The 16V mk II has 137bhp as standard and the engine revs to 7500rpm, making it very rapid - 0-60 in under 8 seconds and a top speed of around 130mph. You have to drive this car to appreciate the handling compared to newer Gtis - it is very sure-footed and agile, and never understeers unless it is on a very wet, slow corner. Maintenance is also far simpler compared to most modern cars as all parts are readily available...

Advantages: Reliable as a lamp-post, great handling, sexy shape, great performer.

FAST FORD GTi ON A BUDGET

Advantages: quite nippy 115bhp engine. looks great. cheap to obtain.

...This car is fantastic. we have had it for now for 3 years. The car has enough space for 5 people to sit comfortably or even with a child seat in the back, two passangers can still be comfy. The boot has a good amount of space too. The front passenger has good space, movable chair to go higher or lower and can move quite far forward or back or can be reclined to a comfortable seating posistion, it's the same for the Driver's side. The Cd Player can have a 6 Cd Changer installed in the boot or have as a single Cd Player, it aslo has a Cassette tape and Radio. The Engine runs quietly and smoothly, youd never know the engine was turned on! The Battery comes in a 2.0 emblembed cover. The Doors at the back can have Child Lock on and so can the Back windows. Modern Warfare 2 - Fun but not Fantastic

Advantages: intriguing gameplay, flawless sound/graphics, rolling storyline
Disadvantages: anti-climax, little repetitive, nothing really new to catch onto

...The hype was wild for Halo 3, it continued for the anticipations of Halo Wars and many were disappointed. Hype was given for Gears of War and that continued for Gears of War 2 and many were disappointed. Likewise Call of Duty was bound to reach a similar anti-climax and so far it has. The overall conclusion is that is fun but not fantastic. However it is important to note that unless you are the stereotypical gamer who has his own gaming chair complete with a surrounding of cookies, crisps, full fat cola, a headset and the limited edition of Halo 3's Spartan mask, likiness is you won't find the game at all a let down. Afterall Infinity Ward are possibly the only people to construct a war-time gaming experience that steers well clear of clichés which removes the unbelievable characters who would look more in place in a Marvel Comic strip...
