Guerlain Insolence Eau de Toilette - a little bit too bold
Advantages: Fairly pleasant scent; beautiful bottle; very good staying power
Disadvantages: Doesn't smell as expensive as it is; rather heavy and old-fashioned
...I bought a selection of mini perfumes from Boots as a treat for myself - it was reduced to £8 and contained five fragrances so I thought that was pretty good value, and I really enjoy trying new perfumes.
I had previously seen an advert for Guerlain Insolence. What struck me about that was that I really didn't like the name; insolence is defined as 'an arrogant, insulting or bold mode of conduct or attitude'. To me that doesn't seem anything to aspire to; perhaps they were aiming at a vaguely 'rebellious' teenage market, which would also explain why it's the sponsor for the programme Gossip Girl, which thankfully I have never had to watch.
The bottle - even the miniature version I have - is really rather pretty, with a glass rose shape forming the lid, which sits on the rounded bottle at a jaunty angle.
I applied the perfume to my...

Great Fragrance For Day Or Night
Advantages: It makes me feel good!
Disadvantages: Can be heavy if you use too much
...Samsara is made by French perfumier Guerlain. It is not a new ?modern?, or ?trendy? type of fragrance and would not be suitable for the latest unisex ranges.
It is a very feminine fragrance and one that is like no other. Its aroma is quite distinctive.
It comes in a perfume and in an eau de toilette. The eau de toilette is lighter and less expensive than the perfume.
This fragrance was first designed in 1989 and it was aimed at the kind of woman is happy inside her own skin, sexy and seductive, without being too obvious.
The name of the perfume is actually from a Sanskrit religious word which refers to the cycle, or circle of eternal rebirth.
The bottle itself is red with a gold top and it comes in an equally stunning red box. I would describe the fragrance as sandalwood with a touch of amber and musk.
The musk is not too heavy...

Shalimar's still one of my Favourites
Advantages: Light oriental fragrance with a hint of vanilla
Disadvantages: None
...Guerlain's Shalimar has been around for quite a long time. Yet it's still very much en vogue. Unlike with some other fragrances, people never seem to get tired of it. It's a very sensual fragrance that seems to be made for a brunette. Shalimar belongs to the group of oriental fragrances, yet it's also a tiny bit sweet. It contains vanilla, sweet bergamot, and tonka bean. Yes, I am nuts for fragrances and that's no secret. If you want, you can go all the way with Shalimar, as Guerlain also offers things like shower gel, soap, body lotion, and even a perfumed deodorant stick all with the seductive Shalimar fragrance. I also find that I can wear Shalimar all year round, it's not tied to any season (I like to wear citrus scents only during summer and heavier oriental ones during the colder months). I've always had Shalimar on my fragrance...

For a warm and sensual feeling
Advantages: lovely scent that lasts for ages. Is cheaper than most other perfumes
Disadvantages: it has a reputation as being expensive
...Mitsouko by Guerlain is a classic scent that has transcended the fickle world of fashion trends, and seems to have a something of a timeless quality stemming back to its first appearance in 1919. I rarely buy large bottles of perfume and with Mitsouko there really is no need because a small 30ml bottle can last me anything from six to nine months. It really was love at first sight, the bottle has an almost regal appeal and the scent is to die for.
Made from a blend of spices, oak moss, chypre and moss the scent is warm and heavy from the moment it leaves the bottle. The spices are lovely and give it that safe warm feeling on my skin that makes it the perfect perfume for evening wear and special occasions. When I use Mitsouko I feel like a million dollars and know that because it is so strong and long lasting by the time I arrive home...

Mitsouko - a love affair like no other!
Advantages: Beautiful, sophisticated fragrance that lingers
Disadvantages: None
...- woody and almost musky. For me, it then "disappears" and reappears when my skin heats up (say when rushing for a train, or much later at the gym!). I think that's the beauty of it for me. I barely smell it, however to others it is quite apparent - but not ever overpowering - and I am talking here of the pure perfume.
Finding this perfume was simply like falling in love with the right man. Every woman should have this experience! Whilst I appreciate that many women will NOT fall in love with Mitsouko (just as we all desire different men!), within the suite of Guerlain perfumes with their stories and different composition, there is something for everyone.
I have also bought my partner one of the men's fragances, and he loves it, too - despite not having found an "aftershave" in the past that he liked.
The Guerlain website is also...

Another Love Story in a Bottle
Advantages: Sophisticated scent that isn't overpowering
Disadvantages: May be too woody for some tastes
...Guerlain of Paris perfumes are world famous - not only for their unique scents but also for their perfumes named after famous places and stories. Certainly, a brilliant marketing technique has been making these perfumes attractive to the ear, long before the customer becomes attracted to the scent.
As a tiny bit of background, I will tell you who Mitsouko was. According to the Guerlain web page, the name Mitsouko comes from a character in a French novel. "Mitsouko was a beautiful Japanese woman, married to Admiral Togo. A British officer also secretly loved her. In 1905, when war breaks out between Russia and Japan, Mitsouko awaits with dignity the outcome of the battle, nobly overcoming her feelings." Something close to, but not exactly similar to the story of Madame Butterfly, I suppose.
OK, so we know that this fragrance is...
