Oakleigh Guest House

Advantages: A warming, pleasant atmosphere with spotless rooms and good service
Disadvantages: Decor not particularly modern

...I currently live in Stourport on Severn in the heart of Worcestershire and recently had some distant relatives come to visit for the weekend and we needed somewhere for them to stay as our house just wasn?t big enough to accommodate the whole family. In the end we decided to book a couple of rooms at the Oakleigh Guest House as I had heard good reviews on the place from friends. ~Location~ Oakleigh Guest House is situated right in the heart of Stourport on Severn town centre so is in a perfect location to access all the local amenities. However it is situated far enough away from the main High Street so that you don?t get the noise from the pubs on a Friday and Saturday Night. The guest house is situated on York Street in Stourport on Severn and is situated right next to the canal lock and overlooks the basin and river which...

Holmlea Guesthouse- an acceptable B&B in York

Advantages: reasonable price and free internet entrance.
Disadvantages: no lock in bathroom and no shower in peak time.

...card details as a guarantee. A staff member told us that there would be no room available until 5pm. We were also given the code for the door entry system and told where we could find the door key. Location It was not difficult to find and is located in a quiet road. Driving there just took 10 minutes after we reached the border of York from south. We were allocated a guest parking permit adjacent to Holmlea. For guests arriving by train it is approximately a 15-20 minute walk from York station. It is a ten minute walk to Clifford?s Tower and York Castle Museum. There are pubs, restaurants and shops nearby. One pub called The Swan seemed particularly popular. My husband really enjoyed it because of the variety of real ales and ciders. Checking in Although we were told to check in by 5pm at the earliest, we arrived at about 2pm...

Fathers Guest House, great place in the Cameron Highlands

Advantages: Location, views, surroundings
Disadvantages: Disappointing dorm room

...Fathers Guest house has the perfect location on a small hill overlooking the tiny town of Tanah Rata in the Cameron highlands. Situated outside the town, but only a 3 minute walk into it, it has fantastic views and is tranquil but still has access to any activities the town has to offer. If you call the owners in advance letting them known when you will arrive then they will collect you from the town and save the walk up the hill with heavy bags. They also tend to be one of the touts who wander the bus drop off area and so if you arrive by bus then there is almost always someone there who you can ask to get a lift up the hill. Driving up towards the guesthouse the first thing that is obvious is that this is a beautiful area. The views from the top go right across the town and amongst the rolling hills of the area. The Cameron highlands...

A cry in the dark!

Advantages: Good price, useful location, clean and comfortable
Disadvantages: Breakfast served only in room, poor breakfast, no lock/light working in bathroom

Hospitality not included.

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Unwelcoming. Dirty. Cramped. Noisy.

...I've just returned from a wonderful visit to York. My trip to York was wonderful because of the beautiful city and not because of my stay at Holmlea Guesthouse on Southlands Road. It seems that guests come second to the owners at this guesthouse. From the very beginning when I was making my booking, things were less than professional or reassuring. I was asked to call back later because the baby needed to be fed. Alarm bells should have been ringing, but I decided not to be cynical and I called back later to complete my reservation. I was told that nobody would be at the guesthouse before 5pm and that I needed to state when I would be arriving. This was less than promising. I called the night before to say that we would be arriving at around 4pm and was given the code to the door and instructions for finding our room key...

Briarly Comfortable

Advantages: Location, friendly welcome, price,....and breakfast!
Disadvantages: Smaller rooms are not for cat swingers

...guest house again - with friends, family or on my own. It is ideally situated and has the warmest Yorkshire welcome. It has no pretentions to be anything other than it is, but what it does, it does well and happily. ~ Briar Lea 8 Longtham Terrace Bootham York YO30 7DJ Tel: 01904 635061 www.briarlea.co.uk e-mail: briarleahouse@msn.com ~ © Lesley Mason hiker@Ciao 29.9.08...

Tarbet House - a cut above the rest!

Advantages: Stunning views, modern and spacious!
Disadvantages: Does not cater for children or pets

...to eat and it was after 5pm. She had a huge selection of menus for restaurants/pubs in the surrounding areas. Her knowledge of the area and places to eat were a definate bonus. Paula & George also had plenty of suggestions of attractions which we could visit come rain or shine. Bedrooms The house has three guest suites: The Macgregor, The Buchanan and The Macfarlane Suite. All rooms are en suite with a bath and seperate walk in shower. A hospitality tray wth tea & coffee making facilities, TV, DVD, Clock / Radio, Iron & Ironing Board Station were all available. * The Macgregor - whilst I did not see this room I believe that it was a double bedroom with a seperate sitting room. The suite has views facing south over Loch Lomond. * The Buchanan - I stayed in this room myself. This suite was double bedroom with King Size...

South Hampton Guest House - ok

Advantages: Reasonably Priced
Disadvantages: Very Small Rooms

...My partner and I stayed at the South Hampton Guest House for a weekend in early 2006. We choose the property because it was reasonably close to the centre of Cambridge Township (about 15-20 minutes walk) and also for it's price. We paid £45/night for the two of us including breakfast. The general décor was nothing to marvel about, a bit pokey and very old fashioned. However, keeping in mind what we paid our stay was reasonable. The rooms (I think there were 4 or 5 in total) were on the small side. Ours was fitted with a double bed, a single chair, one bedside table, a small wardrobe with several drawers attached and a tv mounted on the wall. There was a little side tray containing tea, coffee milk and a few biscuits. There was very little room for much else and we had to store our 1 suitcase on top of the wardrobe. There was...

Beautiful Guest House - recommended

Advantages: Very close to city centre
Disadvantages: none

...The Anchor Guest House is situated in the city centre. From Dublin Airport, travel on the 747 (Easily caught from outside the airport exit, well signposted and regular) Stay on the bus until Dublin Bus Station, the Anchor Guest House is situated in Lower Gardiner Street which is just round the corner from the bus station. The Guest House is a town house with a new extension on the back. There are a few steps to go up and I have not seen a ramp. From the entrance hall, up about 10 stairs you walk through a sitting room to the extension which has a lift. The rooms are all well presented, clean and tidy with Television and en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. A tea tray will be put in the room for an extra small payment and will be filled up everyday. We have only stayed in twin rooms, but they will let them to...
