From Scurdy to Kingsley...

Advantages: Confortable, Friendly, Nice wholesome breakfasts.
Disadvantages: Creaky floors and Stairs. Slight lack of communication.

...Back in June I attended a Ciao meet in Dundee which was organised by the lovely Belinda (belfin to you all) and wanted to stay in nearby Arbroath from Friday to Sunday so I could attend Belinda's hen night celebrations. I didn't want anything too expensive but also wanted a little comfort and so thought a guesthouse would be my best bet. So scouring the internet I came up with a few possibilities and this seemed ideal for my needs. I used the www.hotelsandguesthouses.net website to search for my accommodation; this is where each guesthouse has their own advertising page and where you can contact them from. I decided upon Scurdy guesthouse. Holmlea Guesthouse- an acceptable B&B in York

Advantages: reasonable price and free internet entrance.
Disadvantages: no lock in bathroom and no shower in peak time.

...My husband and I visited York city for 4 days during September 2009. The base for our stay was a B&B named Holmlea Guesthouse. Why we chose it? Before we started our trip we searched on the internet trying to find reasonably priced accommodation that ideally was close to the tourist areas of York. Most B&Bs and hotels we found charged at least £60 for a double room per night. However Holmlea was an exception. On their own website they advertised £45 for a double room with private bathroom, but not en-suite. Personally I?m not used to a room without an en-suite bathroom, so I hesitated to choose Holmlea. Review of Holmlea Guest House, York

Not so cheap but cheerful enough, I guess!

Advantages: Great location, family room in an annex
Disadvantages: Expensive given that it is quite basic

...The Travel Inn Guesthouse in Reykjavik benefits from an excellent location and it is apparently very reasonable (difficult to be very accurate on this, see below for why), but I expect that there are nicer places to stay in the city and more reasonable, and maybe even both. The owner is very chatty and quite a character, but this probably doesn't make up for poor value for money. Whilst our accommodation did not spoil our holiday, I think that in retrospect, with a bit more research we could have found somewhere a lot more reasonable that would have been a more pleasant place to stay. ~~~How we came to choose this guesthouse~~~ We know from experience of travelling with our 3 and 7 year old sons that self-catering accommodation is a real bonus. A good choice for your short break

Advantages: location, quality and good value
Disadvantages: The silence in the breakfast room!

...(never quite like the real thing) were provided and a kettle however due to the heat we were grateful for the bottle of mineral water and on our second night we asked for a jug of iced water which was provided straight away. You won’t find any ashtrays as the guesthouse has a non-smoking policy. The ensuite was very small and included a small white sink, toilet and shower cubicle. Quality fittings and excellent décor however more room for extra fittings would have been nice. The Mira shower worked well and there were plenty of white fluffy towels which you could hang on a heated rail. The addition of Bronley toiletries was a treat as I love the smell of their soaps and gels. ...Guesthouse Paradiso, Hmm this really shows you why a half an hour comedy programme should be left at just that! Obviously it stars Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson, as would be holtelier’s Richard Twat and Eddie Elizabeth Ndingombaba, respectively. Now in it’s half hour format I think the show works quite well, Richie and Eddie usually manage to make a complete pigs ear of something and put some funny moments into it also. The movie format was a different kettle of fish. Richie and Eddie are in charge of the worst hotel in the UK, which is right next door to a nuclear power plant. Review of Guesthouse Paradiso

The best kept secret guesthouse in Sri Lanka

Advantages: amazing scenery, relaxation, friendly staff, totally trustworthy
Disadvantages: steep steps, pressure in shower is weak but still had hot water

...earlier but there wasn't a cloud insight. I left The Slightly Chilled Guest House around 10.30 am. I was about half way up when I could see the clouds starting to gather around the top. If I had left at 8.30 I would have had some amazing views. It wasn't all lost as I still had good views from the top but if I had got my act together and left early it would have been more rewarding. They are putting in new steps and are asking for a donation before entering. It's very hard work of taking the cement up on their heads so please give generously. Mi Casa Su Casa - terribly managed guesthouse in Meville, JNB

Advantages: good location, nice asthetics
Disadvantages: terrible management

...All three micasasucasa guesthouses are well located in the Melville area of Jo-berg. But this is where all optimism ends. The guesthouse is poorly managed - they promise adequate parking, hot water, cable and internet but none are actually delivered. The owners/staff refuse to take any responsibility for their mismanagement perpetually blaming the city or other customers for their incompetence. We were set to enjoy a delightful weekend in Melville, but stumbled upon several setbacks. First, were told there was only one set of keys to our room so had to hand it over to the cleaning staff before leaving the hotel each time (including the key to the room safe!). Sweet Molly Malone

Advantages: This is as good as you could want anywhere - and consistently so.
Disadvantages: None

...Molly Malone's is an Irish pub and guesthouse in Bar Street - the hub of Siem Reap's nightlife area. The pub is very tastefully done out with Irish memorabilia and loads of beautiful wood. It's all very clean and well cared for, with nice toilets too. It's open to the street so you can sit at a table at the front and watch the world slowly amble by. It's friendly and fun. Invariably at some stage in the evening the music is cranked up and everyone sings "... I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone. As she wheeled her wheelbarrow..." Chucking out time is somewhere between midnight and 1am, when almost everyone, including Thierry (joint owner of Molly's), heads down the street to THE nightclub in town - Angkor What? Angkor What? Somtimes a bit too try hard but a good laugh

...Guest House Paridiso, is a very funny, classic film by richie and eddie. Its just like Bottom but with tons more practical jokes and painful traumas! Richie and Eddie both own an awful looking guesthouse next to a factory. Hardly anyone stays and when they do all these guys seem to do is steal there belongings. However things all seem to change when a famous Actress Miss Carbonara (cant remember her fist name)stays at the hotel in a ploy to get away from the public eye and the press. However things go upside down when richie and eddie decide to serve all the guests contaminated fish whih makes all the hotel guest sick (very much! just watch the corridor scene and you will know what I mean!)There are lots of funny parts like when Richie decides to wear some hidous red rubber underwear and gets caught with it on security tape.
