Guildford the place to be???
Advantages: Beautiful countryside, lesiure centre close by
Disadvantages: Boring night-life, Quite hilly, Expensive, Not many good shops
...I have lived in Guildford nearly all my life and like most other people I find my home-town boring, with nothing to do, but after reading this review this should hopefully make your mind up whether you'd like to move here, have a day trip shopping or just go for a night out here.
Guildford is located in the south east of England close to the M25 (9 miles from Guildford), the major airports at Heathrow and Gatwick and a frequent rail service from London waterloo, ensures that Guildford and the surrounding area remains easily accessible to both leisure and business visitors. Guildford is a historic and vibrant county of Surrey, offering first class entertainment and shopping, surrounded by a wealth of gardens and historic buildings.
***SHOPPING***
I don't think Guildford is that great for shopping, as there aren't many shops I shop...

Georgian Guildford
Advantages: Nice cobbled High Street, Georgian buildings. Shopping
Disadvantages: A bit impersonal
...Guildford in Surrey has, traditionally been a major residential centre for London commuters since it is easy to reach by rail and is only around 40 minutes journey time from the capital. It is a basically very prosperous place and has a nice cobbled High Street and a number of fine Georgian buildings.
The prestigious University of Surrey is located here and its 10,000 or so students add to the youthful vitality of the town. This elegant town offers good shopping facilities ranging from major stores in the High Street and the Friary Shopping mall to smaller specialist shops. There are several good book stores in Guildford including a branch of Waterstones.
Recreational and sporting facilities in the town are good including the fine Spectrum Leisure Centre. There are also a number of convivial pubs, a few night clubs, and several...

Guildford, a place to live or just visit
Advantages: Lively, prosperous, full employment for now, fine for shopping
Disadvantages: expensive, agressive, impersonal, not a place to put down roots
...Guildford - one of the wealthiest towns in Britain, the highest divorce rate in Europe, the most expensive houses in the South East outside of London, the typical "Surrey" town - but what is it like to live there?
Let me give you the perspective of an "incomer" of ten years standing, a public sector worker rather than a stock-broker.
Firstly, Guildford is a very beautiful town, but only south of the dividing line brought by the A3 dual carriageway. This road bisects the town horizontally and to the north you will find the industrial estate, Slyfield Green, the unattactive suburb of Stoughton, and the huge 1950s GLC overspill estate of Park Barn. None of which would look out of place in an industrial town in the Midlands or the North.
Then to the south of the A3 you have the Guildford of stereotypical Surrey. Leafy...

Guide to music shops in Guildford
Advantages: [below]
Disadvantages: [below]
...I wanted to write an opinion on music shops in Guildford, but in the music section there were no categories for shops in general, so I feel the most appropriate place to post it is in the Guildford category, as my review concentrates particularly on music shops in Guildford.
I listen to a lot of alternative music, and often I find it practically impossible to find specific albums, despite the abundance of music shops in my Guildford. I therefore propose the following route for people looking for the cheapest CD around:
First call: HMV. It has a good range of artists, often selling quite obscure music, with specific metal and punk sections. Also they have a section on local music, which isn't found at some of the other chain stores.
However, I find that HMV is the most expensive of all the high-street shops. They do often have...

The Great Guildford Getaway
Advantages: An excellent EP which blends brilliantly the genres of pop punk and indie.
Disadvantages: The sound created here is not always particularly original.
...Guildford based band The Getaway Team formed in mid 2006, producing a brand of energetic music which blends the genres of pop punk and indie. It's an excellent mix I must say, I'm a fan of both of these genres and this band certainly captures the energy and excitement of both to perfection. 'Haven't You Heard...' is a pop heavy display of brilliance from The Getaway Team, five tracks are put on display for all to hear here and all impress hugely. Not once does this band sound anything short of sensational on this release, the music is highly energetic and there's definitely a large focus here on having fun. The music is bouncy and you get a genuine sense that the bands members are enjoying it all, it's a warm and welcoming sound and all five of these tracks have absolutely fantastic choruses.
The EP begins impressively with 'I...

House of Fraser Guildford
Advantages: Great presentation, nice staff
Disadvantages: A little expensive!
...House of Fraser, or Army and Navy as it was previously known, has bought business and people to Guildford for many years now. But why is it that people keep coming back? What is it about the House of Fraser experience that keeps luring them back to the store?
My nearest House of Fraser has been shut for about nine months. But, after huge rennovation, it has now re-opened it's doors and it's stunning. It has marble floors, glass bannisters, chrome escalators... the list goes on - it's a nice modern building.
Inside, there is a great collection of just about anything. There's clothing, homeware, electronics - all made by well-known and good quality makes. You can also find selections of toys, easter eggs, or other goodies depending on the time of year you visit.
There is an extensive cosmetics department, with just about every...

Great welcome, great food and good value.
Advantages: Relaxed, professional yet very welcoming and friendly
Disadvantages: there should be more hotels like them!
...My review is for the Asperion and it's sister hotel, Asperion Hillside both in Guildford. These 2 gorgeous, and very personal hotels are located in the beautiful town of Guildford in Surrey.
The Asperion is located closer to town, not too far for the train station, whilst the Hillside is on the outskirts of town, about 3 miles away.
Both pride themselves on offering a fantastic organic menu and organic bar.
My experience of the Hillside was on my wedding day. We had 45 guests who were made to feel like royalty without being OTT.
The Hillside is a small hotel with 15 rooms from Four poster to singles. All are very tidy, clean and decorated to a modern sleek style.
From the first moment you walk in to the hotel, you are made to feel at ease. A friendly smile and happy greeting is given as you are taken through to the lounge...

Eating on my own doorstep for a change
Advantages: Nice food, good service, fair prices
Disadvantages: Rather generic, probably not the freshest of ingredients
...INTRODUCTION
Well I've reviewed eateries around the world so I guess it's high time I took a look at my own manor. Perhaps not as glamorous as Vancouver, or as homely as Breda, but Guildford does provide me with a base between forays abroad.
Tiring of our overpriced work canteen, I thought I'd try the restaurant more or less next door to our office along with a couple of my colleagues. As time has gone on, the prices have rocketed as the quality of the food has gone drastically downhill. What was once a decent selection of dishes has been replaces by 2 main dish options if you're lucky, one of them probably being straight from the freezer. I've resorted to bringing my own food in, much healthier and a lot cheaper to boot, but occasionally I get bored of this and this is where Frankie and Benny's came in.

Disadvantages: Vandalised/Dirty Toilets, Expensive Drinks

Premier Inn - A Good Nights Sleep?
Advantages: Excellent room, facilities and restaurant, easy access to main routes
Disadvantages: Traffic noise, heat in rooms
...We have stayed at Premier Inns in the past and felt fairly confident that we wouldn't be disappointed when booking Premier Inn Parkway in Guildford. Premier Inns offer standard accommodation, so you know pretty much what to expect. They guarantee their customers a 'Good Nights sleep or Money Back' and all come with a restaurant or pub adjoining, to serve residents with breakfast and evening meals.
I booked a two night break in August for my husband and myself with the intention of visiting the nearby RHS Garden at Wisley and doing a bit of shopping in Guildford - and also to have a bit of a break from the kids!
Premier Inn hotels should be booked through the Premier Inn website. To find the Parkway Premier Inn click on Guildford (Central) on the pull down list. On the website you will find details of hotel locations...
