...Despite that over the years I have amassed a sizeable collection of video games for various games consoles; very few of those games have had me more anxious to purchase them than ?Guitar Hero 5?. Even though it has only been a short time since the release of their best of game ?Guitar Hero: Smash Hits? the wait for the games was next to unbearable for me. Finally the release date of 11th September rolled around and my then newly purchased Rock Band: Beatles found its self taking a backseat even though I had only just purchased it two days beforehand on ?Beatles Day?. How to Rock So for all of you who have never experienced this fantastic gaming series and genre here is a brief explanation as to what it?s all about. Basically the game revolves around you press various buttons in time to a pattern of dots that move along...

El Corte Ingles Store Restaurant, Malaga

Advantages: Very convenient when shopping
Disadvantages: Not exactly a scenic location but that is not why its there.

...I ate lunch here with my wife and two friends in October 07 We were there because we were shopping at El Corte Ingles, which beyond doubt is the superior supermarket chain in Spain. The service was quick, the waiter was attentive and the food was as good and comprehensive as the menu suggested. The menu itself consisted of typical Spanish fare, tenera (Calf) beef, various cuts of pork,a wide selection of fish, soups and salads, nothing that I remember in great detail, but what I do remember was the overall high quality of the food that was served up to me and my companions. Do you ever get that feeling when the food arrives at the table and your mind says either "wow, I think I'm really going to enjoy this," or "Oh no, I wish I'd chosen to eat someowhere else." Well they had the wow factor but not over the top. I recall my bass...

From guitar zero to Guitar Hero

Advantages: Portable, new songs
Disadvantages: Awkward to press all the buttons, bruises your hand!

...Being an avid fan of the previous Guitar Hero games, my name was one of the first on the pre-order list. My little bundle of joy arrived through my letter box yesterday morning (the day after the release date) delivered from HMV.com with free delivery, totalling £26.99 (with student discount). In the box, you get the add-on part with the coloured buttons that you insert into the GameBoy Advance slot on your DS, a seperate attachement that you have to use if you are using an old style DS, a plectrum stylus, the game catridge, a game case, two sticker sheets and the instructions - though don't ask me what they say, I figured I would work everything out along the way. The add-on part comes with an adjustable velcro strap so that every size of hand will fit. When you have connected it to the DS, put the game in and turned on the DS...

Time to Break Out the Guitar

Advantages: Rocking out to the greatest songs of all time | Great graphics for those watching
Disadvantages: Could use some more songs | More unlockable / purchasble content

...Difficulty: Medium Learning Curve: 30 - 60 minutes Who would of thought it, a game where you could play as a lead guitarist be so ridiculously addictive and fun? Guitar Hero hits this game right on the gaming industry nail. Even such an idea of a game must of made them think this would be an instant hit, who needs the thrill of their garage band and trying to make it big with their friends when they can just play this? Guitar Hero allows you to play several famous songs, including Ace of Spades, I Love Rock and Roll, I Wanna Be Sedated, Iron Man, More Then a Feeling and even the legendary Ziggy Stardust! How you play this rocking game? You will need to purchase a guitar hero guitar (which you can get in a bundle with the game itself), with this, you plug it in a rock out to the tunes. You use five frets, a strum bar...

Review of Guitar Hero (PS2)

Guitar Hero or Zero????

Advantages: Great for guitarists or complete begginers
Disadvantages: No upgrade shop on easy mode

...Guitar hero is the first of 2 games in the series by red octane. It is for the PS2 and is rated 12+. It's a 1 or 2 player game and can be played with the guitar controller or a normal PS2 analogue controller. The guitar controller is supplied in most packages for this game and the second in the series. I love this game and when I got it for Christmas I was so happy and couldn't wait to get it fired up and start rocking. Being some one who doesn't play the Play station that much my parents were kind of surprised that I had asked for a game for Christmas but now even they have a shot of it!!! The game is sponsored by Gibson, a major guitar company, So all of the guitars in game are Gibson's and the Guitar controller is modelled on the Gibson SG. - The Box- The box for the package is about a meter long and 30cm wide (approx...

Review of Guitar Hero (PS2)

Watch out Rock Band, Guitar Hero is back.

Advantages: Gameplay now on a par with the Rock Band series. Excellent feature set on the Wii.
Disadvantages: Very expensive if you've not already got the instruments. Some songs are a bit obscure.

... Introduction The original Guitar Hero was one of the landmarks in the rhythm game genre; it moved away from merely tapping out a beat to giving you a controller that resembled a real guitar. Sure, it's nothing like playing a real guitar, but then again most people can't just pick one up and sound just like Hendix or Clapton. It was a perfect bit of escapism with devilishly addictive gameplay, and it worked. This was consolidated with a few sequels but then along game Rock Band which pretty much dethroned the original Guitar Hero with a seamless expansion of the gameplay to including singing and drums. Guitar Hero fought back with World Tour, which offered the same, but it was a rather messy affair that didn't totally gel together. As such, the onus was very much on this game to get the series back on track. Gameplay...

Review of Guitar Hero 5 (Wii)

An extremely versatile and reliable guitar!

Advantages: The classic bread and butter of our time - beautiful and brilliant
Disadvantages: expensive and daunting to a beginner

...There is, unsurprisingly, a reason why this guitar is so successful - it is an absolute icon of our time. For years to come, people will look at that familiar rounded outline and remember their rockstar hopes and fantasies, as well as their most epic jam sessions! I have only been playing guitar for two years and have had no professional instruction, i was delighted to find out early on that i was naturally talented at playing and advanced quite quickly. I have played guitar for several local bands and have taught a couple of my friends. I own this guitar in Alpine White and it looks sublime, the gold pickups are beautifully worn giving it a well played look and the sound is almost perfect in every way. I chose this guitar based purely on a long time obsession with the beauty of Les Pauls', i went straight here from a cheap knock...

Guitar Hero: On Tour

Advantages: Brilliant portabillity lets the rock demon inside of you play where ever he wants.
Disadvantages: Unfortunaly your hands start to hurt after long playing hours.

...Guitar Hero on the Nintendo DS? Yes Vicarious Visions have finally brought this classic to the Nintendo DS in the form of Guitar Hero: On Tour. After the success of their other games on the big consoles will Guitar Hero still be a hit on the DS? In my opinion yes it will. After playing the game solidly for the last week, I still havent died from repetitive boredom which is more than i can say about a few recent releases on the Nintendo DS. The sound of Guitar Hero is actually pretty impressive considering your playing on a handheld console. Even though I said that it had good audio quality you obviously cant compare it to, for instance the PS3 verison. Guitar Hero: On Tour's tracklist consists of 26 songs, most of which are new to the series. Most of On Tour's songs are performed by the original artists with only a few being cover...

Review of Guitar Hero: On Tour (Nintendo DS)

Guitars guitars and nothing but guitars

Advantages: Some electrifying passages where you can crank up the volume...
Disadvantages: ...but nothing very memorable tune-wise.

...What an unimaginative title I thought. Calling a Mike Oldfield album "Guitars" is like calling a Bond film "Licence To Kill" - it tells you less than you already know. Then I got it: guitars and nothing but guitars. No drums, synths or vocals. No Tubular Bells even. Is that the idea? Simple, but ambitious. Who else could even attempt this? "Muse" opens the album, it is a beautiful, mellow, Spanish guitar melody. But is this to be another bland CD of Test Card music? (see my op. on Oldfield's "Voyager") Well the added urgency and edge of "Cochise" suggest not. This is serious, invigorating guitar playing. Truly electric. The next track "Embers" is much more subdued though and "Summit Day" would not be out of place on his triumphant "Songs of Distant Earth" CD. It's all good so far, but with no fixed mood. Then the dynamism...

Review of Guitars - Mike Oldfield

Tyler and co get the Guitar Hero treatment

Advantages: Great if you're an Aerosmith fan
Disadvantages: Dumbed down

...For those of you who have never played a Guitar Hero game on any format, you could do a lot worse than start on this game. The series of games have fast become some of the most popular games around, mimicking the way you might play the guitar and giving gamers the chance to feel like Rock Gods! The reality is that there are only a few similarities between the Guitar Hero guitar and the real thing, but it's the fun element, and the feeling of playing it that appeals to fans of the game. Guitar Hero works on the premise of having 5 buttons on the neck, as opposed to the strings you would find on a real guitar. There is then a strumming 'button' which you can toggle up or down. The trick is to correlate the relevant button with the strumming as and when the relevant string on screen features which button(s) you need to play. To this end...
