...I bought my Epiphone 12 string guitar after having a brief affair with the 6 string version. This affair was tragically brought to an end when my beautiful 6 stringed lover had her neck broken in a car crash. The tone of an Epiphone guitar is very rich - I don't know why, but it is. It could be that Epiphone are part of Gibson who are renowned for great guitars, but I can tell you that Epiphone were just as good before the association with Gibson. Being essentially a singer rather than a guitarist, I find that the 12 string version of this guitar adds greater depth to the sound of the chords I play as I sing. If you've never played a 12 string before, don't worry - they are just as easy to play as a 6 string. In fact the chords are the same. Advantages: Inexpensive
Disadvantages: Quality can be a bit iffy

...I've been playing electric guitar for a little over 2 years now and have always bought D'addario strings, experimenting between 9, 10 & 11 gauge, Nickel Wound strings. I personally find the 10 gauge strings best for comfort and playability as they do not grate your skin as much as 11+ gauges and do not cut into your skin as much as the 9 gauge strings. The strings do not last exceptionally long periods of time if you don't maintain them with regular cleaning (oils & such). The only problem I have had with D'addario strings was a dodgy packet from a pack of three sets of 11 gauge strings. The strings just kept breaking before they were even tuned in. Advantages: Sound great...
Disadvantages: For a few hours

...I have always chosen Ernie Ball strings for the simple reason that they seem to be the most popular, they are usually cheap and they have those lovely day-glo packets (yes I'm that shallow). I have always thought that these were the best strings available through what people have told me and their hefty marketing, so I never before questioned their superiority, accepting them as the best you could buy. I was wrong however. In my narrow-mindedness of never choosing to use another type of guitar strings, I overlooked the problems that these strings have. When you first open the packet, and look inside, you see the brilliant, sparkling strings just begging you to put them on your guitar.
