...I have flown repeatedly with Gulf Air out to various places in Asia from India to South East Asia and the far east. These have always required a stop-off in the gulf area of the Middle East, almost always Bahrain which is the airlines hub. The airline has connections from London, Paris and Frankfurt out to Bahrain and from there there are plenty of connections out to Asia and to various places around the Middle East and Islamic countries such as Sudan and Iran. Thus it isn't the best connected airline for those trying to connect from Western Europe as it will almost always require a change over unless Bahrain is the final destination. The main reason I have flown with Gulf Air is that they have consistently been the cheapest option on offer for flights out to Asia-perhaps because of the required change over.   I Don't Think I'll Be Flying Gulf Again

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Cramped seats, rude unprofessional staff

...OUTWARD JOURNEY I flew out from Heathrow on Friday 9th December from Heathrow Terminal 3 to Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) via Gulf Air. I arrived to check in by the required 3 hours prior to take-off time - my flight was leaving at 11:00, I arrived by 07:30 as I hate leaving it till the last minute like some people and then having to rush around trying to get checked in and keep other passengers waiting. I like to check in and then sit with whoever's dropping me at the airport for a while before going airside to browse around the duty free shops. Anyway, whilst my husband was parking the car, I joined the queue for my flight and was horrified that there were already about 100 people ahead of me in the Gulf Air queue. Gulf Air is OK

Advantages: Cheap, staff were nice enough
Disadvantages: Changed our flight with no notice, pretty dire food

...I flew with Gulf Air whe I went to Muscat on holiday last November. I didn't choose them, they simply came with the package and we though we'd give them a go. We got off to a bad start as we had specifically chosen the package as it had direct flights. We were notified at very short notice before we left that we would no be flying via Bahrain. We were not happy as we had paid more for the direct flight and no compensation was offered. I am not sure if this was the fault of Gulf Air or Hayes and Jarvis but we were unimpressed. When we enquired at the Gulf Air desk at Heathrow about refunds and complaints, they were helpful enough but the attitude was very much 'The Sultan of Oman said we can't fly direct anymore so tough'. I understand that however what about the extra money we parted for when we booked a direct flight? Service...

Poros - the unknown jewel in the Saronic Gulf

Advantages: marvelous small island, yet do not overflow
Disadvantages: the journey is perhaps somewhat lengthy

I love this island! - It concerns the island Poros! Poros? Where lies? Poros lies in the Saronic gulf, together with the islands Salamina, Aegina, Angistri and the peninsula Methana in the north and the islands Hydra, Dokos and Spetses in the west. The five islands in the northern saronic gulf are appropriate for Athens next, whereby salamis a suburb of the capital is nearly already. Aegina, Hydra, Spetses and Poros differ surprisingly strongly in its architecture and landscape. The journey - or.... How does you come there? It is perhaps somewhat pedantic to arrive Poros but it is worthwhile itself in any case! Best you fly to Athens...

Bridging the Gulf

Advantages: Okay if you like playing 'sardines'
Disadvantages: Only consider if you are willing to sacrifice everything (including your sanity) for economy

...I've flown with Gulf Air twice, from Heathrow to Bahrain and have to say that even on a relatively short flight of 6 hours, economy class is exactly what it says - there's an economy on courtesy, space and especially leg room. Conditions are far more cramped than necessary and nothing seems to run smoothly. Flights would appear to be often 'overbooked' and passengers were actually asked to leave the plane on the flight I travelled on. The cabin crews appeared stressed at best and pompous at worst when dealing with these unfortunate 'extra passengers', but perhaps this has a lot to do with having to wear the particularly horrendous uniforms in a sickly shade of peach. Being a disabled passenger I needed wheelchair access to the plane - but very little thought was given as to how I should reach a seat at the back, from the front...

I have flown on Gulf Air twice, and I have to say that i dont have any complains, Except the fact that you have to book early...

Advantages: I bet you won't find any complains...
Disadvantages: Bookings should be done quite early..

...I have flown twice in Gulf Air (First class), I have to say i enjoyed the flight, you can sleep like a baby for those seats are so comfy, and Adjusts Automatically, I loved the in flight Movie selection they have some were pretty new too,. I was watching one after another,... and if that is not enough you could watch a video of your choice... The Food was served 3 course they have the most un-believable french croisants... and you get a fruit basket, Filled with your favourite fruit... The Air Attendants were very friendly and helpful,.. This is what the First class is like so i guess they have to make a good impression after all they are the most expensive seats... Well if you ask me about economy class i would not know what to say... But first class is definitely memorable....

Should be called Gulp Air

Advantages: Hmm, can't think of any
Disadvantages: Too many stops, long connections, cramped seats, no air

...I have flown Gulf for three separate holidays - twice to India and once to Sri Lanka and have been avoiding them for the last 5 years now. My husband calls them 'Gulp Air' because there never seems to be enough oxygen in the cabin. Gulf are the used by many of the 'Adventure' travel companies - e.g. Exodus, Explore and the Adventure Company. Personally, I like my adventure on the ground and not in the air. Why do these companies use them? - easy answer, they are cheap and they go to a lot of the destinations on the 'adventure' trail - albeit via half the Middle East. However, my advice is that if you are willing to shop around and book early, you can do as well or better with - forgive the phrase - a 'proper airline' like BA or Virgin. Excellent Service, but not perfect

Disadvantages: Poor timing of flights, dated cabins

...I’m always one for wanting to try new things (calamari not included), and having got the chance to fly to Singapore on business, I was given the option of flying with Gulf Air (Business Class). Firstly, they have an offer presently where you get 5 times the air miles that you fly. For a trip to Singapore, that’s enough for a free flight across the Atlantic! However, it runs out soon, so check their web site. So, having done some research on various airlines, Gulf Air was the cheapest both in Business Class and also Economy to Singapore, £1700 and £500 respectively. I’m also flying to Sydney in October, and, once again, Gulf Air comes out cheapest again! However, and beware, as far as I know, Gulf Air only has the one flight a day from London Heathrow. The noisiest plane ever

...I recently flew from London Heathrow to Kathmandu (via Bahrain) and back again (via Muscat) using Gulf Air. The flights were booked by the holiday company I was travelling through and were probably the cheapest flights to the region. Cheap doesn?t necessarily mean poor quality though and Gulf Air impressed in some areas and failed to impress in others. The flights The first leg (Heathrow ? Bahrain, departed on time) was in an Airbus A332. The plane seemed quite new and the Gulf Air livery (a lot of gold in it) and general decoration inside was very nice. The seat layout was 2-4-2 meaning that you were never more than 1 seat away from an aisle. Even in economy class each seat had its own seat back TV and plenty of legroom. You also got a welcome pack, which contained an eye cover for sleeping and various other things...
