Toni & Guy

Advantages: Top Service, Professional
Disadvantages: None

...Toni & Guy I have visited a few of Toni & Guy salons, so I now feel that I can write this review. In 1963 Toni & Guy first salon opened in Clapham London. From there on in, there was no stopping them, nearly every big town has one. If I am correct they also have or are expanding abroad. If you have visited 1 or more Toni & Guy salon?s you will notice that they are all the same, from the chairs to the sinks, the walls to the floor. Each salon is identical, being the inside. They have a uniform of Black and White. Black bottoms with a White top, they do have their own logo t-shirts in which some staff do wear. The salons I have visited ? Chichester in West Sussex, owned by a man called Jeff. Basildon in Essex, owned by a man called Billy. This opened in August 1999. Billy is sponsoring Miss Essex at the moment...

A Guy Thing

Advantages: Silly rom com with elements of hilarity
Disadvantages: Standard plot, storyline and characters which we've all seen before

...I purchased this film from Play for just under a fiver, i probably wouldnt spend anymore than this on it. Ok i was in one of those rom com moods, i had just splurged some well earned doe on 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall', 'Zack & Mirri' and other associated rom coms and happily clicked on the 'similar films' icon to find this one sitting there. Needless to say i bought it! The tag line of 'Who will he take up the aisle' gave the story away immediately but i didnt care, reading the blurb made me call up my buddy and get him round for another one of those chinese food and two guys watching a rom com, nothing wrong with it. The girlfriend was out and she doesnt really like films that much, especially ones i buy. Ive actually agreed to throw out one of my toy godfather figures if she watches the trilogy, not gonna happen! Its a safe bet...

Review of A Guy Thing (DVD)

FREE DVDs

Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review

...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them. ∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊ Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Don't Make A Date with tad Hamilton

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: it ends

...Synopsis Rosalee Futch is a small town girl who works at her local Piggly wiggly and a major crush on movie star, Tad Hamilton. Rosalee is also blissfully unaware that her manager at the store and friend , Pete is head over heels in love with her. Rosalee enters a national competion to win a date with her favorite star and wins. Story Rosalee lives in a town in West Virginia, she works at a store and hang out with best frineds and co-workers Pete and Cathy. They all enjoy the simple pleasures in life like going to the local bar and the cinema. Cathy and Rosalee particullarly like romance films especailly ones starring their favourite Hollywood hunk, Tad Hamilton. Fairy Frolics (Swallowing Darkness - Laurell K. Hamilton)

Advantages: fun, occasionally
Disadvantages: awful writing

...character that turns up (especially the fey males) is simply very, very boring. The language doesn't exactly soar either, with a plodding, unbelievably wooden dialogue, frequent repetitions that should have been edited out, a surfeit of unnecessary adjectives and and occasional but very grating clash of modes (as a single example: "my mother's emotional ambivalence towards me" doesn't fit with high epic style of the sequence in which it's included, but there are many others). Still, "Swallowing Darkness", while by no means the best in its sub-genre, is not entirely dreadful either. I wasn't tempted to seek out previous books from the series nor other novels by Laurell K. Hamilton (she also authored a long series about Anita Blake, the vampire hunter), but I read this one in two days while recovering from a 'flu and it was fun. As a fantasy...

Toni and Guy

Advantages: magazines and coffee on tap
Disadvantages: the hairdressers

...I recently had a terrible experience at Toni and Guy in Liverpool (Whitechapel) when tint was used on my hair when I specifically requested hi-lites. The experience caused my scalp to burn and it is still very sore to this day. I'm amazed I still have hair at all! And touch wood it will fully recover. I will have to invest in zinc tablets now.The stylist literally painted the top of my head with the solution and walked away. I now look like I have red roots when the rest of my hair is blonde. The service itself was very sloppy and apart from the terrible consultation, I was left on my own for an hour when I desperately wanted the hairdresser to wash the solution out as it was causing such discomfort. Since the disaster, I have been into the salon to complain and was given peppermint solution to soothe the burns! I have used a whole...

Fame Academy - Toni and Guy style

Advantages: Freebie haircuts, friendly service,
Disadvantages: May take longer than a normal cut, as the tutors will double check everything!

...Before you read the rest of this review you need to know 2 things about me 1/ I HATE going to the hairdressers. Ever since a hideous haircut as an 8 year old that left me teased at school, and traumatised for life!!! And again, at 16 with a Toni and Guy's Stylist who just wouldn't listen to what I wanted at all!!! I left with big, bouffant, backcombed US soap star hair, which surprisingly didn't suit a 5 foot nothing school girl! 2/ I also hate people coming up to me on the street and trying to sell me stuff! So, it was a very bizarre and unusual set of circumstances that found me this morning sitting in the Toni and Guy Training Academy on New Oxford Street, acting as a model for Rob, who was about to be assessed on his technique for cutting a classic bob! I'm not sure who was the most nervous, him or me!!! HOW IT ALL...

The Fall Guy

Advantages: great entertainment and eighties action
Disadvantages: none really

...from the eighties. Unfortunately?as of now they have only just released series one on DVD, which consists of 23 episodes (the pilot being counted as two episodes), giving a good seventeen plus hours, onto 6 DVDs, of harmless fun and some comical, if a little 'iffy' entertainment. This series one can be bought from amazon for less than £11.00. Sadly? The theme tune is actually sung by the star of the show Lee Majors and is not to every ones taste? * Series one DVD brief plots. 1) Pilot? The Fall Guy (part 1) 2) The fall Guy (part 2)? When a hit and run driver jumps bail it is up to Colt and Howie to bring the man back to court to face justice? but things are more difficult than first thought. 3) The Meek Shall Inherit Rhonda? When a computer hacker is ripped of by his wife he hires Colt to find her to get his money...

Toni & Guy aren't all that

Advantages: Can be a bargain with a trainee
Disadvantages: Attitude!

...I'd never been to a Toni & Guy before as personally I think spending upwards of £50 just for a trim is a bit of a rip off, and I've always been happy with the cuts and colouring I've had at more reasonably priced salons. However last time I walked past the Oxford branch they were advertising for models for cutting and colouring, so as it's only 5 minutes from where I work I thought I'd give it a go. I spoke to the trainee who would be cutting my hair, and he was really nice, had a chat about the cut I wanted (basically to go from a boring longish bob to a sharper, more graduated cut) and he booked me in for the following week. The price was £10 which I thought was a bargain. I've had my hair cut by trainees before and always found it fine, although sometimes it can take a bit longer and I find they have to concentrate more so don...
