SCISSOR SISTERS ROCK!!!

...I bought the Scissor Sisters self titled album recently and can?t stop playing it. After listening to the album for a few weeks now I have finally decided upon my favourite songs. I love Filthy/Gorgious, It can't come quickly enough, Return to Oz, Laura and Take Your Mama (Ihave fallen in love with the video.) In my opinion the Scissor Sisters will appeal to a broad age group and people with varied music tastes. There is something in this CD for everyone. I will try to give you a ?feel? for the sounds contained within this album describing them as best I can by mentioning other groups/styles of music. The Scissor Sisters consist of :- Jake Shears & Ana Matronic (singers). Babydaddy & Del Marquis (guitars) and Paddy Boom (drums). Learning how to use scissors for any child is difficult. You need good arm and wrist control also good finer motor skills, an ability to grasp and release the scissors to coordinate hand and eye. Running with Blunt Scissors

Advantages: A great performance from Annette Bening.
Disadvantages: The director's failure to grasp the nuances of Burrough's autobiography.

...throbbing synths and piano phrases while long bowed cello flourishes try to inject some emotion into the film. This sits at odds with the soundtrack that includes Vivaldi, a Spanish-language version of "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps", disco, mono jazz numbers, "Year of the Cat" and "Stardust". There isn't a single overriding theme, so I would consider the music to be a failure. "Running with Scissors" is an odd film that doesn't quite work because it fails to show how the influence of those around him affects the central character. It is too interested in the weirdness of the Finch family and by focussing on their peculiarities, robs the movie of emotional depth. It is worth seeing for the amazing performance from Annette Bening, but don't expect to come away from it with your life transformed....

Would YOU trust a student with a pair of scissors

Advantages: Cheap and cheeful, you usually get a very good hair cut, an interesting experience
Disadvantages: Takes a long time, your student may make a mess of your hair

Like my Granny one time, who jumped up out of her chair, shrieked "Sorry, got a train to catch", and simply ran, leaving her incompetent student open mouthed, scissors still in hand, mid cut. The teacher will always be available to correct any minor mistakes the student might make. And the teachers are always very very good, laden with hairdressing qualifications and years of experience. If you're lucky, then the teacher will be the overbearing, "I must do everything" type, and the student will continually be pushed to the side. Ok, poor student and all that, but think of number 1 and the potential gorgeousness of your luscious barnet. ...**Introduction** I have just purchased the album by the Scissor Sisters. Now when I purchased this I had only heard Laura, Comfortably Numb and Take your Mama. So the other songs, being slightly different were a nice surprise for me. For example the song Return to Oz reminds me so much of David Bowie?s music, which I also love. For me this album re-kindled old flames and brought back good memories, by the style and choice of music. ...The first time I heard of the ?Scissor Sisters? was the summer of 03? (not a song title in itself sadly) but at the time I was ?between? careers and driving HGV?s for the summer, so I had long periods of just me pic?s of the boys in the cab and the radio :o) this summer was fantastic for music! Franz Ferdinand ? Snow Patrol etc and of course the group in question Scissor Sisters? I first heard Comfortably numb (originally a Pink Floyd track) on the Joe Wiley session on Radio 1 and I was awe struck! I should have been horrified to what they did to ?Floyds song, but Scissor Sisters didn?t just cover it they reinvented it and made it well ? Dancey! (Yes I know Dancey isn?t a word!). Disadvantages: no choice- took ages to grow back to normal length wearing a headscarf most of the time

...I was an alien. A few people said "You had your hair cut- it looks so different- wow." He demanded I go back another time to be photographed for his final examination. He had not mentioned this at the preliminary cutting. His teacher did not pass him on the haircut- said one side was shorter than the other and insisted he shorten the other and even out the length all over. I decided that I would never never go to another hairdressing salon. It took many months (wearing a headscarf in as many variations of style as I could) for me to go out and feel confident about my hair. It has always taken ages to grow since I had it cut when I was 15 from waist length to shoulder length. ...Overview I haven't liked the scissor sisters for very long and the first song that I heard andreally liked was Laura. It is really catchy and I got hooked. I don't have many of their albums as I'm quite a cheap skate (they won't get to number 1 if they wait for me to buy their music). ...When I first heard the Scissor Sisters, I was suitably impressed. However, I did not find out their name until about two weeks later. The song was Comfortably Numb, a cover of a Pink Floyd song. Upon finding this out I went to my dad's record collection and played the original. Once I had heard that I realised the Scissor Sisters had more to them than just one track, the cover was far better than the original. 1. Laura 7/10 This was the first song released by this band and, although not a bad song and certainly a good opening track for an album, I wouldn't have put it as a single. Maybe that's why they aren't known for this song. There are better tracks on the album, but it is a decent enough song. 2. Running With Scissors

Advantages: Thought-provoking and dryly funny.
Disadvantages: Some may find the events disturbing.

...When reading 'Running With Scissors', it's worth bearing in mind that, whilst it is a memoir, it is only 'loosely' based on the truth. After publication of the book, how loosely is not clear as the author Auguesten Burroughs is in the process of being sued by the 'Finch' family. The story follows Burroughs sketchy process of puberty in Massachusetts in the Seventies, as he is adopted by his mothers psychiatrist. His mother is particularly unsuccessful poet, his father an alcoholic university professor, and Dr. Finch an eccentric psychiatrist who lives in squalor with his wife, 2 of his 7 children and an elderly patient named Joranne. These characters alone make for a promising read, but it's Burroughs wit and attitude that enriches his style of writing that packs a punch with the actual goings-on.
